I have used Anti-Malaware from Bleeping Computer several times, with good success, however the last time my luck seems to have changed. It apparently removed my bottom task bar completely, including the start button, (it simply will not open ) I had already somehow silenced Cortana, but now the ask box will not let me type anything into it, the files icon that I used to be able to click to open my files, is gone completely, so is the volumn icon, I have no way to lower or raise it anymore, the icon for Microsoft Edge is gone, so is the one for Internet Explorer, Skype button is gone too, but I do have one that is on the desktop that survived. Is there any hope for getting these things back ? I am pretty lost , but glad that a google icon survived on the desktop too, or I would not be able to be here now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Microsoft tech support: Reboot. If that doesn't work, reinstall. =^.^=

In other words, wow your computer sounds messed up! Without seeing the computer the best thing I can recommend is a factory reinstall. Most computers come with a recovery partition - basically a backup copy of the whole computer system on a protected drive. You will probably need to google "(your computer model) factory reset" or "(your computer model) factory reinstall" to find out what button to push to trigger factory reinstall.

PLEASE NOTE: A factory reinstall will wipe out any files you put on your computer and install a fresh copy of the whole system. If you want to save anything, copy it off to a flash drive before running a factory reinstall. And make sure you eject the flash drive and remove it from the computer before triggering the reinstall.

Looking ahead: Instead of running a program to fix problems, in the future I recommend running a program to prevent problems. There are many good, free antiviruses out there today. Avast is one.

Can you do a RESTORE? (NOT a RECOVERY !!!!!!!) It is much easier, and will not destroy any files.

Avoid doing a RECOVERY at all costs. That is a "last-ditch" effort.

System Restore or another temp solution is to use this free program just click download for the free version....it makes a start menu so the taskbar should come back at least....

All the times I have used the Avast free anti-virus, and even the plugin, it slowed my 'puter down to a bare crawl.. DO NOT use Avast unless you want a snail-slow computer!!

Good news....I am good to go..... for now, anyway!!!
I found a program on Bleepingcomputers called Windows repair... and tat got me straightened out
:) happy. Happy!!
I still have an issue with my photos though. When I put in the card to upload my new photos it duplicates the ones already on te laptop.and it does not give me an option to delete the new ones. I think this started when I clicked on a link changing the program from my camera software to a program on the computer.

I found a link to reboot the system, but I am afraid to try it, any ideas?

Oh and btw, avastworks good on my computer. Thanks for the help!!!!
