    Default Charger or laptop?

I was using my laptop when suddenly it died. It showed no charge coming in. I checked the charger and at first believed it was the charger that died. But when I checked it at another plug it seemed to be working.
I plugged it back in to the original socket and it was working. When I plugged it back into the laptop the charger went off again (it has a blue light indicating when it's working).
I unplugged the charger, plugged it back in and it was on. Into the laptop and off it goes again.

Not sure if it's the charger or laptop. I suspect laptop since it gave no low power warning. But figured I'd get a second opinion to be safe. And if anyone knows the issue and if it's repairable.

Tested the laptop on a different charger. It did nothing to my laptop but seemed to continue working without unplugging.
Still curious about what's going on.

***sounds like the charger to me---you could get one cheap on Ebay or Amazon---if that is all you need it won't be too bad...

If I am properly understanding what you are saying -- then, it sounds like the battery may be the problem. If it developed a "dead short", it would not hold a charge and the charger would "refuse" to try to charge it.

    Have the battery checked.

Well even with the battery out it did the same thing.
I managed to get a new laptop. Wasn't expecting to be able to do that.

Most chargers will turn themselves off if there is too much of a current draw on them. So, hypothetically, if your laptop was shorted, the charger would turn itself off to prevent more serious damage.

However, since you plugged the laptop into another charger and the laptop worked, it would seem that the original charger can no longer power the laptop and thus needs to be replaced.

Were you able to exchange your laptop, or did you buy a new one, or did you receive it from another source?

Actually plugging the laptop into another charger didn't work. But it also didn't affect the second charger.

My old one was about 5 years old. No exchanges there =D

It sounds like the laptop has a problem. Can you try the charger with a different laptop? Make sure the voltage and current ratings are the same, otherwise bad things can happen.

But now that you have a new(er?) laptop, perhaps it doesn't matter anymore.

If you want, you can probably sell the old laptop as is on ebay. Someone might want to try and fix it.

I did that as well. Charger worked fine in another laptop. Laptop did not affect a different charger, but the laptop still didn't work either.
And my new laptop (brand new) is giving me trouble. Had to take it in the next day, thought they fixed it, but no. So have to return it, not risking getting the same one again. And I have a trip in 2 weeks and will need a laptop while I'm away. And I use 17" in screens and stronger laptops which few are carried in stores. Oi!

The laptop is the problem (speaking from your troubleshooting and from my experience). Either the DC jack or the main board needs to be replaced.

A local repair shop is your best bet for turnaround time. Big box retailers (e.g. Best Buy/Geek Squad) will most likely send the computer out to a third party repair facility, which will take considerably longer.

power supply or motherboard, verify to see if the pin is straight and tight where you insert the charger. if you think you can, take it apart and look to see that the ram is tight and secured in place and on from the power supply and such. also try taking out the battery and holding down the power button for 20 seconds all while the laptop is unplugged. That method helped when i had a similar problem with mine not turning on, although mine had a blinking indicator, even so not all models are the same. however the trick should work on most any system, because it essentially drains all power that may be stored still.
