Hey,

I installed an alarm system from a security provider here in Canada. The whole system has about 16 cameras placed all around the house which monitors activity. The cameras have been working fine without any issue for one whole month. But today, I just checked to find out that only 4 out of the 16 cameras show live footage. I know it has something to do with opening ports or something but where do I get the IP address from? Secondly, where do I enter it?

The guy who came on the date of installation was constantly getting on my nerves. He had to ask me EVERYTHING. "Should I drill here or an inch diagonally from this point? Is the alignment okay? What's for lunch? Am I pretty?" I rated the service 4 out of 5 with a comment about how efficient they were despite being too annoying. I'm hesitant to call them due to that incident. :D

So, if you have knowledge of or have used security systems, please help me out by providing useful links. I'm really bad at google search. Thank you

I'm no expert but mt guess would be much of that would be somewhat proprietary and something only the company can with.
They built and installed it. They are the ones to go to. Request a different person than last time, or ask if such agonizing detail is required. Perhaps that is a policy for installation due to excessively picky customers complaining.
But not likely they'll require the same detail to fix a problem. You also has the option of telling the installer not to ask such detailed questions.
Also some companies have installers and repairs done by separate groups of people.

Maybe you can skip all that stuff altogether and get a large dog with a loud bark.

Though you don't know the specifics of his situation or why he felt a need to install all of this. There may be something in his life that he feels he needs this. And dogs aren't guarantees, so if something does happen it's good to know who did what. Or what if where he lives doesn't allow dogs? Dogs don't alert the police, either. Or you, if you are out of the house. Most likely he has a smart phone connection and when things go off he can check it from his phone. See if it's a cat, a thief or what, and respond accordingly. A dog can't do that.
I once knew someone that believed their ex was breaking into their home. There were a few things that suggested it to be true. So they bought a security camera to monitor the house, but never saw anything. It became more and more apparent no one was coming in, and that resulted in having to find new reasons for what was going on. It turned out is was likely something one would not even consider until they had to.
And it also allowed them to be less stressed and sleep better knowing their ex was not breaking in.
Dogs couldn't have provided those answers and peace of mind.

Dogs are like family. I'm not putting their lives at risk, no way. Even if they're large and scary, they could be harmed. I appreciate your sense of humour though. :)

I gotta go with tourist, Just get a dog.
Dogs cant be deactivated, and if someone does make it on to
the property, the barking should scare him off with a couple posted guard dog notices on the property,
even if the dog is friendly.

Plus dogs offer more companionship and affection than most modern security devices, Dogs can also double over as a family pet. far better investment and value for your dollar.

Of course his question wasn't "should I get a dog or security setup". His question was that he Already had a security system installed and wants help with an issue he's having. Not to mebtion he alrwady gave his reason for not wanting a dog as security.
Seems these sorts of responses offer nothing as they have nothing to do with what's being asked.
I went to another site aimed at a topic I had a question about. Two people out of 15 offered anything related to my question, the rest did what you did, give responses on their opinion of my choices, rather than advice on my question. I was so infuriated o told them all off and haven't returned to the site since.
Because their answers were entirely irrelevant and were more about sharing their opinions than being helpful.
