I've seen it on every forum I've ever been on and I'm finally curious, what is rep (reputation?) and how do I get it (And what for?)?

The reputation function is rarely used anymore since we added the "like" button. At any rate reputation is something that other users can add when they think highly of a post you made. It really has no real use since if you look at my profile my "rep" isn't that high and I'm a staff member.

Though not as commonly used, some people do still use it sometimes. To check what posts got repped click the 'Control Panel' across the top of the page.
