Chat groups are not chat room based. They are simply groups you create around a theme or topic, where others with similar interests or needs can go to post on that subject. You can make them private, so people need to get approved to join, or public where anyone can join at will. But even posts made in private groups will show up on the right side of the front screen. So they aren't private, but more restricted.
