i know this is going to sound really silly, but for the life of me I can't remember how to upload a profile picture. I keep clicking and right clicking, but I can't figure it out. I don't know how I did it the first time!

Actually, simpler, right from the main page, the line of blue words under the blue Chat now! button has one that says 'picture'. Just click that and you bypass the 'settings' 'edit profile' method.
