1 John5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

Hi, Just wanted to know this “sin which is not unto death and sin unto death.” Guys what ye say? What is that sin not unto death and the sin unto death? Who is liable of these sinning?

Thank you.

That seems a pretty good answer. I've known a handful of cases in my life where a Christian person unexpectedly died, who also set out on a course of action involving a serious, unrepentant breach of Christian behavior, people that should have known better. One involved betraying a good Christian spouse, by somebody I, nonetheless, knew had been a faithful, Bible studying and understanding person. They just went "off the reservation," not too long after got suddenly ill and died, and this from previously being strong as a horse. Especially this one case screamed sin unto death to me. There are consequences, for Christians, too. God is not mocked. I don't know who can know what that line is that gets crossed, until it's too late, but we need to avoid living with one foot in hell, in any way.

I don't think that it means that there is A sin unto death, but simply sin unto death. The context seems to suggest that GOD will forgive sins at another's request that are not sins to death. Maybe things like unbelief, or a bad word spoken, or something minor. Then for major transgressions like murder or adultery, it wouldn't make sense to pray for someone's forgiveness, but rather for their repentance. Maybe sinning unto death is renouncing the faith. Just thinking out loud here.

If anyone should be perceiving his brother sinning sin not to death, he shall be requesting, and He will be giving him life for those sinning not to death. There is sin to death: I am not saying that he should be asking concerning that. (CLV) 1Jn 5:16

James 1:14,15 A person is dragged away from God and enticed, then their desire gives birth to sin, and sin full grown gives birth to death. (I hope I got that in the right order, you can go back and read the scripture). So take Judas for example, he had to leave the thought of God long enough to be tempted, then he had the desire and want to do it, then he accepted a bribe against Jesus- which was sin, but betraying Him with a kiss was the sin fully grown and- which gave birth to death.

There was a difference in Peter betraying Jesus, and Judas betraying Jesus. Peter repented before the sin was full grown. This is the area you can reason with someone, or they can reason in their own mind, and come to repentance. But someone who grieves the Holy Spirit, or has left God to worship Satan, they have crossed from life back into death, and there remains no hope for them. The bible says once they have tasted and know the truth, but go back to practicing lies, it is as if they are crucifying Christ all over again. I'm paraphrasing, but you can look up the verse.
