What causes God to hide His face from us?

Is it when we sin or break His laws? Is it when we turn our face from Him and seek after the temptations of this world? Is it when we hold onto anger and bitterness and refuse to forgive others?

What are the causes?

What are the results?

And is it a bad thing if it cause death of the flesh and a renewal by the Holy Spirit?

Psalm 104
You hide Your face, they are troubled;
You take away their breath,
they die and return to their dust.

You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the Lord endure forever; May the Lord rejoice in His works.

I don't know who this person/Pastor is, but I enjoyed reading his thoughts about this.

Can't copy an excerpt.......but the Article is found here:

Why God Hides His Face From The Righteous - Jesus is Savior

Are you sitting here this morning as one who seems temporarily forsaken by God? Have you sought the will of God and found it evasive? Have you prayed and found your prayers bouncing back in your face? Have you ever come to the place in your life when you examined your heart and you honestly knew there was no gross sin in your life, you knew you were sincere and you knew you were willing to do God's will, yet when you came to God, it was as if He had turned His back on you and had hid His face from you?

I don't see in the New Covenant that God hides Himself from the one who is in Christ. Hiding Himself is an Old Covenant theme that doesn't come over into the New Covenant. How would He hide from us? We are joined as one spirit with Him now? 1 Cor. 6:17

We are seated with Christ at the right hand of the Father. Col. 3:1-5

Hebrews said to come boldly to the throne of grace to find mercy and grace in time of need - so sin or trouble doesn't separate us. Why would it say to come boldly when we didn't need Him? He is not hiding Himself. As soon as we rid of that thought in our minds from that Old Covenant notion - we'll start to grow in the Lord.

Perhaps in reality what is happening is that we don't "feel" Him or emotionally we are distraught and we "think He is hiding" and also because of Old Covenant teaching - we "think" He is hiding. He may be just teaching us how to live by faith when we don't have the "feelings that He is close or we think He is hiding".

IMO - Keeping our eyes on Jesus and being established in the grace of God and the gift of righteousness in Christ will go a long way to helping us from not being deceived by the things of this world.

The Bible teaches us God is omnipresent so it is impossible for Him to hide Himself. The problem must be with us. So instead of hiding His face, His presence is absent from us.

God must also be emotional because we are created according to His image and likeness. But His emotions are perfect unlike ours. He has favorites, He is a jealous God and He is offended when we commit sin. This is proof of His emotions. When trust is broken we don't want to look at the one we love. God must feel this too. But since His love is perfect, He can't ignore us even if He wanted to. When we offend God we avoid looking at His face because of guilt and shame. When God is hurt He will continue to love us and He does'nt have to hide His face because we already avoided Him in the first place.

MICAH 3:4-5.
Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but He will not hear them:
He will even hide His face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make My people err, that bite with their teeth,
and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

PRO. 1:28-29-30-31-32-33.
Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

They would none of My counsel: they despised all My reproof.

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

But whoso hearkens unto Me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Thank God for the New Covenant and we are in Christ joined as one spirit with Him for eternity. God is no more hiding His face from us in Christ then He is still wanting the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

We have a New Covenant built upon better promises and the Blood of Jesus speaks of better things.

It is vital we get our minds renewed to the truths of this New Covenant and walk on securely in Christ and grow up in Him.

As others have mentioned, I'd say as well, this being of A OT account.

Isaiah 59:2
but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

HEB. 13:8.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

The Bible teaches us God is omnipresent so it is impossible for Him to hide Himself. The problem must be with us. So instead of hiding His face, His presence is absent from us.
God is Spirit and therefore has no literal face .We see His back parts, the working of His Spirit, the hearing of faith .

His presence is absent when we do deny Him.

In that way it’s not so much that His presence is absent, its there but in respect the glory (unseen) of the work, he covers us with His hand until it passes by. Therefore a person can discover nothing about the future.

This scripture from the Old Covenant sounds really bad. Has anyone ever not sinned before? This definitely cause separation.

Exodus 32:33 (NASB)
[SUP]33 [/SUP] The LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.

Thank God for the blood of Jesus and the New Covenant.

REV. 3:5.
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name
out of The Book of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels.

How do we overcome so that God will not hid His face from us and blot out our names from the Book of Life?

How do we overcome? John gives us the answer:

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (1 Jn 4:4)

Overcoming is not about jumping through hoops and satisfying the expectations of men. It’s about depending on The Overcomer who lives in you.

“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 Jn 5:4-5)

Are you born of God? Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God? If yes, then the Overcomer lives in you and you can’t help but be an overcomer.

That’s why Jesus told the disciples to be encouraged during times of tribulation; because He – not they – had overcome the world and because they would carry his overcoming Spirit within them.

We are called to fight the good fight of faith! Believe in what Christ has done and His life will be manifested in every circumstance of our life while on this earth.

God doesn't hide His face from His children once we are in Christ.

Are we not "in Christ"? When God looks at us does He not see the righteousness of His own Son? Why would God hide His face from His Son??
