(18) When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. (19) Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." (20) Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." (21) Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." (22) But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury the dead."
Jesus voluntarily became homeless when He started His ministry.
I'm curious as to how many homeless there are on CC, if there are any who would admit it. I am homeless myself. This is partly my own choice, partly because of circumstances.
Blessings to all!
I relocated for work, but it didn't work out, and I became stranded and out on the street. I remain here, though, because there's a bigtime need for the Gospel at street level, and I believe God is using me, and the Holy Spirit guiding me while I'm here. I know I'm called to a ministry in music, so either this is it, or I'm under training for something else.
Actually, I've had one foot in this ministry and one foot in the world for a long, long time. But there's nothing like homelessness and hunger, and loneliness for a kick in the pants to wise up! and crawl out from under my filthy rock and get to work for God.
So I play and pray for folks on the street in a tourist city, and in churches sometimes when I'm invited, using the talents God gave me, trusting God daily for my shelter and bread. I have to, because I can't rely on the kindness of passing Samaritans.
I find no shame in homelessness now, but at first I did. That was worldly thinking, and I played worldly music, sang worldly songs, busking for change. I was bitter and uncaring, just another drunk street musician looking for booze money, and if I had anything left over it went for food.
But Jesus can put His purpose into any situation I find myself in, if I just listen-up. So my prayer today is, thank you, Lord, lead on, and I'll keep a-followin' as best I can.
My 2 questions:
1. Are there any homeless here on CC?
2. Is what Jesus said in verse 22, "Follow me, and let the dead bury the dead.", a suggestion that homelessness may be part of a person's calling to ministry, or could it be a command to be homeless? I'm purposely not quoting other scripture here, because really I'm asking for help in sorting it out.
