http://www.friendsofsabbath.org/Further_Research/Law of God/THE 613 LAWS of the OLD TESTAMENT.pdf

Someone mentioned that the OT is really called the TORAH or the book of LAW and this Sunday our pastor mentioned that there are 603 more commandments in the OT besides the 10 most people talk about, making it 613 commandments.

It made me wonder what the other commandments were and if those who claim to follow the OT laws concerning the Sabbath actually follow all 613 of the other commandments especially those that do NOT concern sacrifice. Also if they don't follow some of them WHY NOT?

Have you ever seen warning signs on products. like electrical hair dryers that say "do not use in bath" or something like that?

you kind of know that the warning sign is one there because someone actually did it.

these laws remind me of that. Sometimes you ask yourself "who in the WORLD would do such a thing?!?"

then you think, if God had to tell them NOT to then some folks were doing it.

anyway you can read the rest from the attached link. I might post some that I know people don't follow or would like someone to explain what is meant by them but right now I've got to clean my house.

I'm waiting for the remaining 507 :)
I posted a link :)

its a PDF of all 613

http://www.friendsofsabbath.org/Further_Research/Law of God/THE 613 LAWS of the OLD TESTAMENT.pdf

Most of them I think were just signs and reminders for the Israelite people, which they needed since they refused to listen to God directly and wanted a mediator instead.

I'd like to go through and see what God really meant for people to learn from those scriptures.

For example the reason behind NOT marrying a gentile was so they would not lead you or your children to worship other gods.

However, Ruth was a Moabite and listed in Jesus lineage via King David. The difference was that she renounced other gods. Therefore the prohibition is not against PHYSICALLY or genetically mixing between cultures but against SPIRITUALLY adopted the other people's belief system and worship of other gods.

Moses wife, Zipporah, circumcised her sons because of a dream God sent her even though her father was a priest of Midian.

I found this study about Midian interesting: http://www.doctrinalstudies.com/pdf/D041016.pdf

LOL. I'll post the other laws after reading through looking up the first hundred Bible verses :)

9.Not to put the word of God to the test (Deut. 6:16)
Now this one I see people do a lot and I probably do quite often myself.

My pastor gave the example of "God if you will do this for me, then I will ____________."

Or "God show me a sign!"

Or

Matthew 4
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, [SUP]6 [/SUP]and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’

and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”[SUP][b][/SUP]

[SUP]7 [/SUP]Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”[SUP][c]

[/SUP]
[SUP]

if you didn't pick it up, Jesus is quoting Deut 6:16

just one of those WOW moments of conviction right there.

[/SUP]

The Law

11.To honor the
old and the wise (Lev. 19:32)

12.To learn Torah and to teach it (Deut. 6:7)

13.To cleave to those who know Him (Deut. 10:20)

14.Not to add to the commandments of the Torah.(Deut.13:1)

15.Not to take away from the commandments of the Torah (Deut.13
:1)

16.That every person shall write a scroll of the Torah for himself (Deut.

31:19)

Just to make it clear, the Torah typically refers to the first five books in the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Deut, Leviticus and Numbers.

I'm just wondering how many people today have hand copied those books and if every Jewish man actually had their own scroll of the Torah?

I think it would be a fun project to do, with illustrations along the margins or before each story.
