The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Charles Stanley is not all that pure doctrinally. He wrote a book where he speaks of a 'Millennial exclusion' which means that unfaithful Christians will not enter into the Millennial kingdom but will instead spend the 1,000 years in a place of torment. Whether that be 'purgatory' or 'hell' is not at all clear.

So, I should expect Andy to have much of a grasp of the truth.

Andy Stanley has been on an assault against the bible the last 1-2 years. It is a sad stance he is taking. He said he would have people take the focus off the scriptures and place them upon the resurrection. Okay, but how else do we know of the resurrection other than by reading the scriptures? He also said that we know of the resurrection because of Matthew's eyewitness of it. Great! I agree. But where do we find Matthew's eyewitness of the resurrection of Jesus. In the scriptures. Its a self-defeating and circular reasoning stance he has chosen to take.

Apostles said it to other people, i.e. the preaching of the church, generally said.

And actually, I very doubt that you know about the resurrection from the reading of Scriptures, that it was your first time information about it.

My friend, why do you have such a low view of the scriptures? Why must you cast doubt upon them? If I had your view of the scriptures, I would honestly pitch all my bibles in an incinerator. :(

Because I say the truth, that the church is preaching the gospel and that you probably knew about the resurrection before you read it in Scriptures, you attack me that I have a low view of Scriptures?

It does not follow at all.

And your extreme position as destroying something if you cannot idolize it, is another non sequitur.

But the churches I went to told me about the resurrection via the scriptures. They did not find it in the New York Times, Saturday Evening Post, Washington Post, etc.

I say these things as I am concerned about you and your very low view of the scriptures.

And the Scriptures were written down by the church. So, again, it started as witnessing and telling about the event, not as a book.

Why do you call truth and facts to be "low view"? If you believe that truth makes us free, why to be afraid of it?

His low view of Scripture is in all reality an attack on its authority and authenticity.

Yea I heard about the resurrection but it was in movies or on tv . I never heard it preached in a church before I believed . ( before was saved I can recall about 5 times I went to church and two of those times was for weddings) It was in the scriptures that I learned what it meant. How all the types and shadows pointed to the the cross and the resurrection. Without emphasis placed scripture you set yourself up for discounting it in favor traditions or perhaps some form of intellectual superiority in believing you know better than what is plainly written.

What did Jesus use when he witnessed to Cleopas and the other disciple on the road to Emmaus?

What did Peter use when he preached to the populace in Acts 2? In Acts 10 in Cornelius' house?
25-27 Then he said to them, “So thick-headed! So slow-hearted! Why can’t you simply believe all that the prophets said? Don’t you see that these things had to happen, that the Messiah had to suffer and only then enter into his glory?” Then he started at the beginning, with the Books of Moses, and went on through all the Prophets, pointing out everything in the Scriptures that referred to him.

28-31 They came to the edge of the village where they were headed. He acted as if he were going on but they pressed him: “Stay and have supper with us. It’s nearly evening; the day is done.” So he went in with them. And here is what happened: He sat down at the table with them. Taking the bread, he blessed and broke and gave it to them. At that moment, open-eyed, wide-eyed, they recognized him. And then he disappeared.

32 Back and forth they talked. “Didn’t we feel on fire as he conversed with us on the road, as he opened up the Scriptures for us?”(Luke 24)

You do have a very low view of the scriptures my friend, and it saddens me that you do not see this. :(

This is what started it . Quote from Stanley
“The Bible did not create Christianity. The resurrection of Jesus created and launched Christianity. Your whole house of Old Testament cards can come tumbling down. The question is did Jesus rise from the dead? And the eyewitnesses said he did.”
The above is what most are talking about . Stanley In his other statements alludes un hitching Christianity from the OT but the quote above confirmed it . Kinda odd seeing that Jesus quotes the OT scriptures (24 OT books) so many times.

I can see the point Stanley may be making here. The OT God behaves differently than the NT Jesus.
