Those of us who understand will do what needs to be done. The rest are of no concern.

Well it's very difficult to do given the political state of the world, but for nations that violate human rights so horribly as this, I would support cutting them off from the global economy. That would force change, save lives.
yes starvation and mass death would definitely be a change.

"cutting them off from the global economy"? that is your suggestion as a solution?

I don't have one but I think we need to pray and ask God for the solution. However your suggestion will result in mass deaths of the population. the people in charge will steal to feed themselves and let other starve.

however if massive natural disasters destroy the world's food resources, famine, disease and war would be expected natural outcomes.

Again prayer will be needed.

Isaiah 58:3-5 (New King James Version)

3 ‘ Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and You have not seen?
Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?’

“ In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure,
And exploit all your laborers.
4 Indeed you fast for strife and debate,
And to strike with the fist of wickedness.
You will not fast as you do this day,
To make your voice heard on high.

5 Is it a fast that I have chosen,
A day for a man to afflict his soul?
Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush,
And to spread out sackcloth and ashes?
Would you call this a fast,
And an acceptable day to the LORD?

Mass death? No, certainly not. Cutting them off from the global economy would mean that the civilized world would no longer do business with Uganda. We buy someone else's product instead of theirs, we sell our product to someone else instead of them. It would certainly force them to change their policy of murdering a group of their own people for no reason. And we're already looking at a small genocide of death as it is... The civilized world shouldn't contribute to the success of governments that support barbaric murder.

Also AnandaHya, economic sanctions are frequently used by NGO's and IGO's as means of forcing other countries to fall in line.

This.

It's just sad that it'll probably happen.

I can't believe we're still dealing with genocide in 2011. :(

Well good news! The bill has been pushed out of Parliament thanks to the international outcry! I think the foreign aid being withdrawn helped quite a bit. Uganda still punishes homosexuality with prison however, and gay people are at risk of beatings, rape, lynching, or otherwise being murdered by the people of Uganda. It's still a good thing the government wasn't about to make matters much worse though...

Well this is a load off of my mind, I've been worried all week about this. I find myself in somewhat of a good mood for the first time in a little while. Yeah...

politics.

it doesn't change the truth of my statements. the people will be the ones who suffer not the heads of power. but death is not the end. it is better to pray they live in obedience to God and know Jesus Christ as their savior.

it is good that the world has not become so corrupt that mass murder is still sanctioned as good and called justice....

Revelation 9
4 They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6 In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

It's amusing on how some people claim to be Christian and be doing God's work whilst creating something like this bill. Obviously a inspection of scripture would reveal Jesus never said exterminate the Gays.

I'm honestly very surprised we don't have many people talking about this. This is actually huge news, and very tragic. I guess I'd just like to raise awareness, as barely anyone seems to know about it, and wouldn't mind hearing a few opinions on it. Oh, and please, let's talk about the bill and related things specifically, no need to turn this into another argument which has happened over and over again.

Here's the basics... Uganda is a Christian nation, in the sense that the vast majority are of the religion. Ugandan Parliament is scheduled to vote today (Friday, May 13) on the 'Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill' which would sentence all homosexuals to death, including those who have already been convicted, for which there is currently a 7 year prison sentence for. The bill is expected to pass based on polls, but the US has already said it would withdraw all foreign aid if it passes, so that may change some minds.

This is a big deal, and it's happening today. I'm worked up about it as is, but back when I was a Christian I would have been just as upset, because they would be killing these people in the name of my god, which would be very saddening. What I would consider to be a perversion of my faith. That's my personal opinion, I think it's disgusting that a bill like this has even the slightest chance of passing, let alone will likely go through. :(
First, they are not a Christian Nation, and Jesus testifies of this himself:

Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

And this also:

Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

And also:

Luk 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

And:

Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

So what you see is the evidence of this. And Neither is America, if they promote homosexuality a Christian Nation according to Jesus:

Neither is America for promoting homsexuality:

1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
1Jn 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
1Jn 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

May Jesus bless you.
