As I study the word of God , I do not see the word "accountability" in it. Now the concept is there
Gal 6:1-5
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.
Prov 27:17
Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
This concept has taken a humanistic teaching that has crept into the ministry of deliverance and restoration. Known as
"Behavior Modification".
1.the alteration of behavioral patterns through the use of such learning techniques as biofeedback and positive or negative reinforcement.
2. another term for behavior therapy.
Is this Biblical?
Can these self-help reinforcements achieve victory ? One normative I have seen and learned from theses kinds of programs are one, if you are a alcoholic you are always one, or addicted to porn you sit in a circle with other men who say there name followed by " I am an alcoholic, addicted to porn, etc...
Christ centered counseling comes from the word of God . will spiritual growth needed by men who are griped by sin come by simply sitting in a circle
talking about their struggles with other struggling men? Will the head knowledge be enough?
Behavior Modification is a weak humanistic version of biblical transformation . There is a liberty available for those addicted to sex, drugs, alcohol , porn. it is not feeble, nor shallow; rather it is deeply penetrating and all-encompassing.
This kind of change only requires brokenness and repentance - The Biblical solution for those who are in habitual sin.
The maintenance program :
this common program deals with many with addictions. They advocate once a man has an addiction to a sin/vice no matter what it is he will always be an addict. This mentality is pervasive in many support groups . they confess that they are what ever is the addiction is they are. 6 years , 7 years they have been going to these groups still have the issue but at lower level of sin that is more manageable . They are expected to identify with the addiction or past sin. Are we to do that? Not only that but you need to attend the group for the rest of your life as the primary source of recovery.
He is a loser , an must keep that in the forefront of his mind. If not he will return to the former lifestyle of sin completely. If you could do this self-help group program how does God do it if you are the primary source ?
That does not sound like freedom to me.
Jesus said I have come to set the captive Free Luke 4:18 , open prison doors .
John 8:36 says Whom the Son has set free is Free indeed.
He has come to set at liberty them which are bound
it starts with repentance and asking God to change your heart. It is Pursuing HIM with you whole heart and trusting HIM to set you free by HIS Power.
