What does Christ say on the matter?
My son remembers having read a verse saying that dealing in absolutes is a bad thing, but we haven't found the verse(s).
Thank you.

There are many things which are said to have been spoken by Jesus, or written in the bible, which are not. Like, "God helps those who help themselves." This is not written in the bible.

As to absolutes, there are certain, bedrock, absolutes which we must deal with. One is our need of a savior. Another is the absolute that the only to God, which is salvation, is through Jesus Christ. There are many others that are not only desirable that we deal in and with them, but necessary.

Perhaps you are speaking of James 4:13-16 which speaks against absolute statements of what we plan to do.

That is one way to look at that passage, but I always considered it being a warning against leaving God out of our decisions.

Blessings brother,
