Emmanuel, (God with us), came from heaven to earth,
born of a virgin, made in the likeness of men,
condescended to men of low estate,

tempted in all points without sin, a man of like passions,
came to seek and save the lost, healed the sick and feed the poor,
raised up disciples, did always those things that pleased the Father,

knew no sin but became sin, shed His blood for the remission of sins,
tasted death for every man, opened not His mouth,
was buried and rose again on the 3rd day, appeared unto His disciples,

ascended to the right hand of the Father, returned to His former glory,
ever lives to make intercession, His name is Jesus,
the Christ and Savior of the world, who is coming back again.

The physical body, that was born of Mary, called Jesus, died on the cross. The logos, became flesh, named Jesus and the body of Jesus died. Remember when Jesus said, my God my God, why have you forsaken me?
forsaken there means...why are you leaving me behind. The physical body of Jesus never sinned.....so why did this body have to die, because of our sins. God did not die, the physical body which Mary bore, the logos took upon flesh, that flesh died, but he logos did not die. What kills the flesh is sin. Jesus, the body took upon itself our sin so it died.

Just a thought.....

Really guys, why are we arguing over if it was God or Jesus who 'died'?

Who cares? Does it make one iota of difference to our salvation? NO!!!
Hi jraasuup. I have been gone for a while and have missed much of the conversation but if I may interject back into the conversation, I would say that this has everything to do with our salvation or at least what you think is your salvation.

It goes back to the beginning. The one offended or sinned against is the eternal, incomprehensible, infinite God and the offense is therefore an offense which cannot be atoned for by temporal finite creatures. This is clear from God's decree if you disobey you die (paraphrased of course).
Sidenote: This is also one reason why the doctrine of hell exists (an eternal outpouring of judgement for sin against the eternal God). This is also why "the lamb as though slain" stands eternally in heaven. Why Christ, in risen form, still bears the marks of judgment upon his resurrected body. It is an eternal judgment on our behalf.
Jesus as only a man or a temporal creature is not sufficient a representative to atone for sin against the eternal and infinite, not even if perfect in form as a creature, because he is still created. Only God could satisfy God's own demands. Only God could be an eternal and infinite propitiation for sins and yet it had to be man that bore the curse. This is the doctrine of the God-man sacrifice. This is our atonement. To reduce the God-man sacrifice to a man sacrifice is to make less out of sin's infinite offense and thereby to make less out of God's holiness and less of His decree to pour out his eternal judgments on sin.

To make this only a man sacrifice is to say that God made a perfect man to atone for every other man's sin. This would cost God nothing but his time-Oh wait he's eternal-This would cost God nothing and your allegiance would therefore be to a man and not God.

Biblically, we belong to whomever redeems us. Did a man pay to redeem us or God?

Christ is our Kinsman redeemer and yet by nature of his divinity, through Him we are also heirs of God Himself.

Rather than saying it doesn't make a difference, your point should probably be more to say, that the mystery of hypostatic union should be left undisturbed. It is sufficient to say that Jesus and God are one and that Jesus died on the Cross.

For in ages past it has been sufficient to say that Christ was Very God and Very Man inseparably joined together into one person without conversion, composition, or confusion.

Peace

Woah. This baffles me. I honestly had no idea people outside of any heretical sect believed that Jesus wasn't God at the moment of His death. How do you just suddenly become.. not God? It's the very essence of who Jesus is. That can't be taken away.

So are you saying that God died? That is what is baffling?!?!

Snail, you got serious problems. You been reading too many ancient writers.

There was a time when death began and there will become a time when death will be no more.

God is eternal.

Did God create death? If God cannot die, aren't we saying that God is weaker than what he created? I think God is so powerful, He is able to die, and bring Himself back to life. That's what my God can do, what can your God do?

God is eternal.
So how literally do we interpret the word "nothing". ?

Can God make a rock so heavy that He cannot lift it. This is exactly the type of nonsensical questions you are asking. God is eternal He cannot and did not die.

yes God died on the cross

revelation chapter one teaches Christ is God. there is only one "first and last"; the Almighty; His name is Jesus. God died on the cross, but is alive forevermore.John the Baptist said of christ; "behold the lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world (lit,. "cosmos"). Only God could do that.

thinking Christ is 100% God is the most confusing thing taught in the Christian Church today. It is 100% wrong. God didn't die on the cross or ever. Christ died on the cross. Not God. We all know 100% that when we talk about Christ and when we talk about God, we are talking about two seperate beings. Christ even calls God the Father, HIS GOD. it's pretty plain to see. John 20:17
