In my thinking protection and forgiveness would be the same thing.

As I read that scripture...it was an additional act when Moses sprinkled the blood on the people.

I also see blood as an "intercessory" act.

And I may be wrong on this but isn't atonement when the high priest goes into the Holy of Holies once a year?

It's been a while since I've looked at those scriptures.
Atonement was for the covering of SIN, not the forgiveness or taking away of it.

The day of atonement was a feast

you actually study the word for yourself
I did, and found out you are wrong... the Blood Covenant does provide for protection as well as for forgiveness... and lots of other stuff too!

Ain't got nuthin to do with those old pentecostal cats that wouldn't let their wives wear makup, jewlery, or pants.

Thank you for thinking of me though... that was nice

Isaiah 52;14-15. "As many were astonished at you—his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankindso shall he sprinkle* many nations.Kings shall shut their mouths because of him, for that which has not been told them they see,and that which they have not heard they understand." *startle

Here's how F. C. Jennings translates it "As there are many astonished at Thee, (so marred was His visage, made than a man, more marred was His form than of all Adam's sons). So shall He make with astonishment start** many people! E'en king shall be awed into silence; for there shall they see what had never been told them, then shall perceive what had never been heard."

**The root meaning..."to leap, as exulting with joy"...to liquid, "to spurt,"..as used here, "to cause to spurt"
......Delitisch "The word is never construed with the accusative of the person or thing sprinkled". As for instance, to give one out of many, "He sprinkled thereof upon the alter."

So in this verse Jesus is sparkling His blood on the Mercy Seat or His blood is being sprinkled as to the Mercy Seat.
