"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:2)
Just wandering, is this verse still relevant to modern Christianity, with nowadays churches preaching much of the philosophy of this world, like self fulfillment, success, financial security, etc, etc. ?

If you mean "modern Christianity" as in "Christians who living in this era", then Romans 12:2 should apply to us. If you mean "Christianity that is being taught in most churches today", then probably not, especially if those churches are mixing biblical principals with worldly principals.

To truly give meaning to this verse, we must as well conform not to the PATTERN of the world. Would you scatter what God has gathered into that house? Do not judge the fruit of the flesh but the spirit. Self fulfillment, success, financial security and the likes will ALL PASS AWAY. That which is left will remain and cannot be removed. For the soul who receives this type of message, that one only got what he asked for. God gives all to as many as would search it out.

It is absolutely still relevant. Just because it is often not practiced doesn't detract from its relevance.

"Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear," (2 Timothy 4:2, 3).

I see a lot of the second half of this verse happening. Not enough of the first half. It is still there though--I am fortunate to attend a church that has never, to my knowledge, preached on the so-called "prosperity doctrine", or on self-fulfillment, or the other things you mentioned. There is no fulfillment through self. Of course God may bless you with material things, I have heard in church, but there is certainly no universal promise that He will do so.

People like to hear about how good they are, so they will flock to the ones who are telling them that. But what people need is to hear about how helpless they are without God.

I agree with everyone who has posted, but I would like to point out that there is a second part to this verse, also. "...but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—..." I believe that this is an admonition to stay in the Word; to meditate on Scripture so that we gain a better understanding of God's mind and heart.

oh heavens no, cant do that, we want them to come to church and go home
feeling good, so they come back next sunday.
so we preach how to be positive and you will be blessed, just believe,God will provide.
you will be successful etc. but you know what, the people loves it that way.
this is what makes a certain church very successful. the flock loves soothing words.

wakeup.

Beautiful scripture!
Often one can be decieved because they look to the world or themself for understanding, rather than giving and recieving in Jesus.
In Jesus, we are no longer of the world, but still in it, we are dead to the wolrd, yet alive in Jesus.
If one looks to anything worldly, to bring faith and understanding, they will fail, be decieved.
Simply because we are flesh when we do this.
But, if one gives all to Jesus, dying to the world, living in Jesus.
Jesus brings all undertanding, all that is asked and given, all that is truth and love .
Through His Holy Spirit from God Our Father!
Psalm 23 is a good read for this. :)

in Jesus, God bless.

I do agree with what you stated. Most people are so wrapped up in Worldly Thinking and Affairs here on Earth, then skip church, or do not pray, or read their Bible etc. We need to becmore Christlike in thinking and behavior....amen
