Wasn't Jesus teaching at the temple when he was 12 (when he knew his parents wanted him with them). At what age are kids not responsible to obey their parents? I've been wondering because I tend to...well I don't always obey my mom. Like she'll say "oh don't go to abercrombie" and I'll go anyways. Or she'll say "don't listen to Gaga's music", but I will anways (I never pay attention much to the lyrics and never watch the videos). Or she'll say not to hang out with this kind of people or do this and that, and I'll do it anways. I think that I have a right to choose where I go, who my friends are, what I listen to, etc. I'm going to be an adult in a few years and I just really think that I'm old enough to make my own decisions. But, I feel guilty when I disobey my mom because I don't know whether God wants me to still be under her rules or not. Do teens have to obey their parents? What does the Bible say about it? I feel like an rebellious bratt when I disobey her because I love her and I don't want to disobey God, but I really reallllly think I'm old enough to make my own decisions.

Wow, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. That was my pride a minute ago. I have a problem with peer pressure. I guess that's what this thread really should be about. So yeah, how can I deal with peer pressure.

OP title: Do we always have to obey our parents?

NO. As children, as unto the Lord. As adults, we are to HONOR them always. There is a difference.

Jesus was doing the will of His Heavenly Father. God has prior claims on our loyalties and you should listen to your parents unless they tell you to do something against God's will. God is number one.

parents normally tell you to not do things out of love and prevent you from harming yourself.

its ok its easier to see our sin when we talk about it or write it down that is why I keep a journal. I read back over what was bothering me with the Bible and see what God says about things. sometimes I am ok in my actions and words. sometimes God's words convict me and I am shown how I sinned.

we just need to turn to God and repent. remember you might be able to get one over on your parents but GOD sees everything. when people pressure you to do things you know are wrong, ask yourself: is listening to them more important to you then listening to GOD. whose approval do you want more: your peers or God's?

How to deal with peer pressure:
1) DETERMINE who it is that you are serving...self or God
2) DETERMINE that you believe God's word and so...
3) DETERMINE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND That God has your back and your best interests in mind
4) DETERMINE to CHOOSE to not take offense*, remembering that Jesus was shunned, ridiculed, made fun of, blatantly disrespsected and accussed of many things. And He said NOTHING. Choose to do the same when these things happend to you...you will be in EXCELLENT COMPANY~!!
5) DETERMINE to LOVE them anyway and stand your ground.
6) DETERMINE to FORGIVE, for they do NOT know what they do!
7) DETERMINE to BE the OVERCOMER and CONQUERER that God created you to be!
*remember that the devil will use those you love and care about, IN THEIR IGNORANCE, TO TEAR YOU DOWN. Look BEHIND them and see your real enemy, the devil, working, THROUGH those you love, AGAINST you.

My parents dont listen to me, I dont listen to them.
Even if there is justification in the back story to this, I wish you'd perform a better PR job for the atheist team.

Contest or not, stereotypes occur anyway. Of course we don't all have to be sheep, but I try to persuade people to my way of thinking :p
