Is it possible for the Lord to get lonely, and if so, is that why Jesus said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment”? (Matthew 22:37-38 RSV)

Allah can get lonely. The God of the Bible cannot. The three persons in the Godhead enjoyed perfect love and fellowship in eternity. They decided to make some creatures to share what they already had.

Lonliness is a lacking. God can not experience lack of anything, as he has all, because he is all.

So, nope.

I'm not sure how you can be lonely when you have over 6billion children on top of your heaven full of angels. I'm not sure God would have time to be lonely taking care of us lol.

I think the reason that is the first and great commandment is less for God and more for us. He's giving us a reason to obey God's law. How much harder is it to sin against God if you love Him that much? I love my mother and I remember how horrible I felt whenever I disappointed her. When we love God with all our heart, and soul, and mind, we keep Him in our thoughts all the time, and we will re-think sinning against Him. Besides, if we don't love Him with all our heart and soul and mind, it means we are giving part of our love to something worldly like money, or pride, etc. God is so amazing, and He wants us to trust in Him for everything, and trust and love are hand in hand. If we can love him with all our being, then it means we can trust him with our whole being.

I think God can be hurt very much by our ignoring him. He wants to be held in a very special way in our hearts. I know some people talk to him say once a month or once a year or some talk to him all day. He says he is a jealous God. I know he cries very hard because people are going to hell. He woes us, calls us. So I think he can be lonely for us.

The Lord has created billions of people, but if few of them remember to love him, how can the Lord NOT be lonely?

James 4:5 has always been interesting in relation to this topic... I'll post a few different translations..

NIV
5Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely?[a]

NASB
5Or do you think that the Scripture (I)speaks to no purpose: "[a]He jealously desires (J)the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us"?

KJV
5Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

ESV
5Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, "He yearns jealously over the spirit(E) that he has made to dwell in us"? 6

NKJV
5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?

So it looks like there is for sure some kind of jealous longing on God's part for us. Don't know if that means he can get lonely .

Wasn't God getting lonely or just being tired of being alone one of the reasons he created mankind? Just because God is perfect doesn't mean he doesn't have feelings.

I have not seen in scriptures wether God Our Father gets lonlely. But we are made in his image, we also have emotions. Also in scriptures you know that Our Lord God is a God with emotions.
I do know he loves us perfectly. Maby it is less about being lonly and more about his desire for us to know his great love.
God bless, pickles

Because it is good and healthy for US. Not because of any lack that God had.

God does not NEED you.

I don't believe God gets lonely. That's more of a human characteristic.

Even before the creation there was the father and the Son, and love existed even then. That's why God is love literally, he's a dynamic being always and forever!

God gets lonely. He would love for us to spend all of our time day and night only with Him but we are not capable of returning all that love but only some . God limits Himself not to interfeere or change us in an untimely way.

Loneliness implies some sort of deficiency , so why would God feel lonely? I believe He is utterly complete and content with His own company.

Here is another Scripture that suggests to me that the Lord would like to have our love:

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!” Matthew 23:37 RSV
