Hello. Do u listen to a Bible Preacher from outside of ur church? I would like to know if somebody here listen (all the time) to Pastor John Macarthur. Its quite a deep preaching and i would love to talk with people who, like me, came to the faith by his explainings of the Word. Many thanks.

The ones that I am currently listening to the most are James Barron

www.seeinggrace.com

And Bertie Brits www.dynamicministries.com

I find that the Holy Spirit leads me to listen to certain ones at different times. Each teacher is anointed to teach on a certain area of truth. When they stray from that calling - they can create a mixture and actually confuse us instead of bless us.

I haven't seen this fellow, but there's a fellow on TV who was very helpful to me many years ago, because of his teachings, who is still on TV, Charles Stanley of the In Touch Ministries.

Johnny Mac believes in Lordship Salvation, which I don't have a problem with. But he is a cessationist & believes every Pentecostal & charismatic believer is led by a false spirit.

Any "scholar" that can't properly translate Greek texts isn't much of a scholar, whether he's a president of a school or not.

He has some minor misconceptions, but he's a very good start. At least, he's Bible-based/God-based.

There are similarities between the two men, although MacArthur is more of a scraper, and Stanley is kinder.

someone without hangups about what other people are doing is usually a safer bet

Stanley is good...he is too busy trying to follow Christ and help others then bashing those he disagrees with

I don't listen to him much anymore, but he is not offensive

Hi Nice_Lady.......I have heard many teachings from John McArthur and have had no problem with his views of the Bible and Jesus Christ. He, like me believes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that the Word of God is devinely written and inspired over a 2500 year period through 66 books and over 40 authors.

I would also suggest you look into Chuck Missler and some of the older preachers that like me are not affected by the present day deceptions.

If you will look around in the KHOUSE website you will find a large number of contributors who are fundamentalist (reading the Bible literally)/.

here is the KHOUSE site address....Koinonia House - The Ministry of Chuck and Nancy Missler

I would make another suggestion: that you go to YOUTUBE and search these preachers/authors by name and listen to some of their works.

Good Luck.

I do well with a lexicon, but I can't read Greek. I'm not a scholar. Johnny Mac is a scholar & a Bible school president, & still can't get past cessationism & refuses to believe in Holy Spirit giftings that are spelled out in scripture, accepting instead writings from the church fathers of the RCC that these things passed away without a single scripture to back it up. He is also a blasphemer, citing every spiritual utterance from Pentecostals & charismatics as NOT led by the Spirit of God. Just read 'Strange Fire'.

That's my story..... what's yours?

With that (lack of) wisdom, The Baltimore Ravens are also the Super Bowl Champions.

Really? Really, really? You have not grown in three years, so you assume no one else has either? With your lack of wisdom you might as well spurn Peter for not accepting pork too. Most people learn, develop a theory based on what they've learned, are countered by other theories, and reevaluate the theory. MacArthur is one of those people. (Apparently, you are not.) If you're going to spurn someone for something they said, then at least keep up with the latest before keeping up with the spurn. (Otherwise you look like a bozo, if common sense doesn't work for you.)

He's coming around. (And he wasn't entirely wrong either.) When will you?

Since you give us the link, let's read about him:
Cessationism[edit]

MacArthur is a cessationist, and is one of the most prominent voices in the church against the continuationist beliefs of Pentecostalism and the Charismatic Movement. He has written three books in support of his position: The Charismatics (1978), Charismatic Chaos (1993), and Strange Fire: The Danger of Offending the Holy Spirit with Counterfeit Worship (2013). In October 2013, MacArthur hosted a conference called "Strange Fire" at his church, to mark the launch of his book of the same name. The event featured a number of speakers who argued for a cessationist theology and strongly critiqued the Charismatic Movement.[SUP][26][/SUP] In his opening remarks, MacArthur stated,Watching the behavior of some Hindus who belong to the Kundalini cult. Their body movements are almost identical to that of people in the charismatic movement, the extreme behavior of pagans. This is the work of Satan, it is the work of darkness, and not to be attributed to the Holy Spirit." And that, "The Charismatic movement as such has made no contribution to biblical clarity, interpretation, or sound doctrine..It detracts and confuses." "It has only produced distortion, confusion, and error." "Have people truly been saved in Charismatic churches? Yes. But nothing coming from that movement has been the reason they were saved." "Evangelicalism has thrown its arms open and has welcomed the Trojan horse of the charismatic movement into the city of God. Its troops have taken over and placed an idol in the city of God."[SUP][27]

[/SUP]Let me educate you some more about this man. Every time he teaches on this stuff, he bundles Pentecostals & charismatics together as one & the same. This is a lie. Even Wikipedia tells us there are big differences between the two. While there are some charismatics in Pentecostal churches, the differences are as different as Baptists & Methodists.

Stating that Pentecostalism & the charismatic movement don't exercise the gifts or worship in the Holy Spirit is a judgment call on millions of christians he's never met. Saying their worship is of Satan is blasphemy to say the least.

Good grief, I'm a Pentecostal & even I can't say they're all good or bad because I haven't went to all of the churches to see. Who would really know? Certainly not MacArthur..... he's too busy with his church, his TV ministry, his books, his conferences, and his bible school.

I would suggest to you Steve Gregg. He's very good at interpreting the bible with the bible. He's self taught, not indoctrinated by any populous Christian group, theological seminary or denomination.

Do u listen to a Bible Preacher from outside of ur church? Yes. I'm a Charismatic, but have listened to Baptist, United Methodist(very Conservative pastor, it should be noted!), Assemblies of God, just to name a few.

I would like to know if somebody here listen (all the time) to Pastor John Macarthur. I guess MacArthur and I may be at odds since I'm a Charismatic.

We ARE on the same page, though, when it comes to tithing...neither of us believe Christians are obligated to any of the types of tithes mentioned in the O.T.

We also would share the same core tenants of the faith...deity of Christ, three members of Godhead, salvation by faith through grace, etc.

One can tell a lot about a denomination/religion with examining its doctrine...Like the Churches of Christ, there are many different Pentecostal churches that all believe or follow a different doctrine. This the problem with religions. Everybody has the way to heaven and then some tells our kids, anything goes.

I still stand by my answer to Nice_Lady's question?

Let me educate you then.

He further criticized the modern Charismatic movement, stating that "In 1967 a bunch of Jesus freak people in the beach areas of Southern California go to Calvary Chapel..and for the first time, the church, that i know of in history, the church lets the very defined subculture dictate what it will be. Out go the ties, out go the hymns, out go all the normal and formal things...and the hippie culture, you know, kids coming out of drugs, communal living, free sex, and all that kind of casual thing, and that's a charismatic church, that's a

And it was raining in Philly the beginning of the week and will rain again tomorrow.

(Hey, you took something only as far as you wanted to and then spun it around so much it wasn't even connected to what you quoted, so why can't I?)

Although, not much of a way to educate someone about anything.

You really do think everyone has to believe exactly like you or they're 100% wrong about everything, don't you?

Just so you hear a different side of this issue, I do NOT listen to radio/TV or internet preachers. I have been a Christian for 36 years, and I read the Bible and scholarly books. I used to read devotionals, but God moved me on from that. Oh yes, I listen to a good sermon every Sunday morning in my church.

My advice is be extremely careful with who you listen to. Everyone is going to try and convince you what to believe. Look at the division just in this thread! Keep reading your Bible, and pray for The Holy Spirit to lead and guide you. Sometimes, that might mean listening to different preachers. Other times, it might be through a book. And certainly you should be involved in a local church if possible! (I don't recognize your flag, and you may be somewhere without a Christian church.)
