What they know by instinct like unreasoning animals—they destroy themselves with these things. 11 Woe to them! [h=3]The Apostates’ Doom[/h][FONT=&quot]12 These are the ones who are like dangerous reefs[e] at your love feasts.They feast with you, nurturing only themselves without fear. They are waterless clouds carried along by winds; trees in late autumn—fruitless, twice dead, pulled out by the roots; 13 wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shameful deeds; wandering stars for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever!

This is why I quit using the HCSB. The translations are accurate but the titles and commentary are misleading or biased to support baptists beliefs. You see thats the problem if you base your assumption off of a title that thats what this letter is about. Its misguiding and the NIV's title is more accurate. Because this first confused me too, the HCSB using apostasy as a title but yet in context these people was ungodly from the beginning and didnt have the Spirit. So studying its context I realized this isn't speaking on people who committed apostasy. Now on to the NIV.

Lets walk through this real quick

(3-4)Above Jude wants to warn believers to protect their faith from these ungodly people who secretly snuck in.^ [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord[c]at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

(5-7)Jude wants to remind them the penalty to turn from belief or abandon the true gospel. ^

[FONT=&quot]8 In the very same way, on the strength of their dreams these ungodly people pollute their own bodies, reject authority and heap abuse on celestial beings. 9 But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”[d] 10 Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct—as irrational animals do—will destroy them.

[h=3]A Call to Persevere[/h][FONT=&quot]17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

(8-19)Back to warning of the ungodly false teachers^ Not having the Spirit means these false teachers never took part of the Spirit. These are literally like spies of satan to infiltrate the church and destroy it from the inside out. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show
mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

(20-23) Here is Jude's plan of action to combat these false teachers. 1. Build up their faith so it may not be weak ( apologetics in modern day language) 2. Pray, Pray, Pray, 3. Making sure to abide in Christ. 4. Help those who do begin to doubt and save others who are falling away due to their doubts.

(24-25) To those who remain in Christ, Christ can keep them from stumbling and lead them to salvation.

And so we see we shouldn't look at the titles but focus on context. The letter of Jude is written to believers as a warning against ungodly false teachers who crept in unnoticed. The letter is a warning to try and protect believers from falling away that could lead to apostasy in which Jude warns what the punishment of that is in verses 5-7.

1 Timothy 4:1 - Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

I presume that you believe "depart from the faith" means that born again believers depart from saving faith in Christ and lose their salvation. The words "the faith" (Gr. tês pisteôs) in this context means the apostolic faith, the New Testament apostolic body of doctrines. Some who are in a state of professing adherence to the apostolic faith, nevertheless will in both doctrine and practice depart from it, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.

Some "nominal" Christians will abandon the Christian faith, the New Testament apostolic body of doctrines for cults or false religions. That does not prove they were previously born again. In 1 John 2:19, we read - They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

I believe the beginning of such a major departing from the apostolic faith was evidenced as the Roman Catholic church began to come into existence in the early 4th century. The Roman Catholic church forbids it's clergy to marry. This same church has other demonic doctrines such as transubstantiation, purgatory, indulgences, papal infallibility, Mary's perpetual virginity etc..

There is no mention about them being born again, so I see no problem with this verse.

And I have a pity on those (till now) 4 people voting that they believe born again Christian can fall away from faith. I do not want to imagine their daily life in "temporary" faith.

Nevermind,It says pretty much the same thing In the King James Version.

The reason I mentioned It Is because the spirit was just and made perfect by GOD already and I was wondering how WE add anything to the spirit.

God wants all to be saved,already had the plan to give mankind salvation from the foundation of the world,so it is the same as if they have salvation at the foundation of the world,and that salvation is to whoever wants.

God does not choose who will be saved,and not saved,without their input,for God is true love,and not evil.

How they interpret scriptures is strange to think otherwise.

As usual, a hit and run post from you with an avalanche of verses without context and understanding. Many of these verses have already been covered, but I will address Hebrews 3:12 for now:

The Lord delivered His people (the Israelites) out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe (Jude 1:5). God had revealed Himself to these Israelites and chosen them as His people, but does that mean they were ALL saved? The writer of Hebrews is addressing brethren here in verse 12, but does this mean that EVERYONE in this very large group of Hebrews must be a genuine believer? As we read in verse 14, For we have become [past tense Gk. verb, gegonamen, meaning we have become already] partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end." Notice that this is essentially a repeat of verse 6, where we read: but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house - whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. The only ones in the end who will be identified as those who have become partakers of Christ, will have been those who hold fast the beginning of their confidence steadfast to the end." *These faltering Hebrews who depart from God begin with loud confidence and profession of loyalty. *But later?

The wording of the above verse in Hebrews is not - "and you will become partakers of Christ (future indicative) if you (future indicative) hold fast." It is rather - "you have been, and now are, partakers of Christ, if in the future you hold fast to Christ." Holding fast to Christ is a manifestation of genuine belief and having become partakers of Christ and departing from God is a manifestation of unbelief and failure to have become partakers of Christ. Just as we see in 1 John 2:19, if they had been of us, then they would have continued with us.

In Hebrews 4:2-3, we read: For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have BELIEVED do enter that rest, as He has said: "So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest," although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. Notice that verses 2-3 makes a distinction between "us" who have BELIEVED and do enter that rest and "them" who heard the word but did not mix faith with what they heard and will not enter that rest because of UNBELIEF.

The Israelites not some but the Israelites praising God. Yes they was chosen. Their salvation was dependent on staying close to Gods commands and blood sacrifices for sin. This was their way to salvation.

He destroyed some of the same ones up above singing and praising God. They would believe then later start complaining or build an idol or scared to go into battle even after God said they would win.

The whole old testiment is a huge blinking light saying relationship between God and man. And countless examples of his people forgetting their love first known.

Now God has made even easier and simpler to be saved. The relationship still stands but now one and last sacrifice has already took place. Now all we must do is remain in Christ to be saved.
