Is it wrong to have fantasies? I don't mean sexual ones of course. Sometimes I imagine living in space like in the show Firefly, and I get a little sad that it'll never happen. Sometimes I daydream about being a warrior with a sword and a horse, slaying evil and being awesome, or having Matrix-likes moves and diving and rolling and random stuff like that. Sometimes I think about if my current life was different, the things I would do and the places I would go. Do you think these types of daydreams are considered sins? Do they fall under coveting?

I often fantasize about having Amy Lee's voice. That doesn't help you at all, but I felt like sharing. :)

Yay! I'm not alone!!!
I can so relate to that, I even have a sword because I started meeting some people who did reenactment, and I often daydream about beeing a warrior of some kind.

I don't think it's bad unless it affects your daily life or your relationship with God in a bad way

I sometimes wanted to be an Indiana Jones type figure, looking for lost artifacts whilst running from Nazis and ethnic types with spears.

Now my fantasies are much more modest. I envision that the peak of my existence will be in solitude with a bottle of scotch.

Is it good scotch at least?

Oh yes, I still have some self respect. I only drink single malt, usually something such as Laphroaig or Glenlivet 10 year old.

I can't recall any point where the Bible comments on daydreams and fantasies specifically; moreover, fantasy and daydreams are one way healthy people cope with the pressures of every day reality. I'd argue that it's very unhelpful not to have flights of fancy from time to time. In fact, Paul told Christians to comfort each other with words about the second coming and the kingdom--fantasies in the sense that we can look forward to them with comfort even though we're not actually there yet.

Now obviously there are issues about daydreaming too much and not accomplishing anything, or letting your fantasies become obsession, but that can be a danger with just about anything.

Also, Firefly is awesome. :)

Because you put it in this forum I think you meant is it Biblical to have fantasies?

God gave us a capacity for abstraction. It is a very important part of a child's development. It starts off with babies with the 'peekaboo' game.
This is incredibly important when it involves coming to grips with the concept of God.
Men never got to the moon without fantasising about it first.

Tell me about Firefly, because seriously, in your ressurection body you will be able to fly through space.

"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if ther is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things." If your imagination is controlled by your will, directed by good things, then imagination is a good thing, a gift from god for your benefit and the benefit of mankind. Without imagination there is no invention, no art, no good conversation.

Fantasies (non sexual ones) are ok. They are just a part of our imagination, and part of what makes us the image and likeness of God: we can think of things that are not. We can imagine stuff that is beyond reality. It is an amazing gift that God has given us. In a way, we could not comprehend God without the ability to understand what we cannot see firsthand. None of us have been to Heaven, I'll wager, but I am sure we have an image, a fantasy if you will, of it in our minds. We can look forward to heaven without having been there. Fantasizing about Indiana Jones is ok too haha. I guess God also wants us to have a little fun too, so might as well skip off to dream world for a few minutes and pretend we're battling Nazis in our quest for the Holy Grail!

I try not to dream things I know aren’t going to become reality. Of course, in my judgment, a lot of things are possible, since life is eternal.
