The fear of the Lord isn't to fear as in be afraid of God... The Fear of the Lord is to hate evil. When you begin you hate evil you begin to become wise.

Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

Proverbs 1;7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Hope that helps you brother... May God bless you and pour out His wisdom on you!

Matthew 10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Genesis 18: (God visited Abraham in the form of 3 men, after supper the LORD rose to leave)
18:16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; 18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Go-mor-rah is great, and because there sin is very grievous; 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. 22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. 23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? 25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? 26 And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. 27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes: 28 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it. 29 And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake. 30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. 31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unot the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake. 32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake. 33 And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

19:1
And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; 2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. 3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. 8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. 9 And they said, Stand back And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. 10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. 11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door. 12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face fo the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. 14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law. 15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; let thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. 16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. 17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape unto the mountain, lest thou be consumed. 18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord: 19 Behold no, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain lest some evil take me, and I die: 20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. 21 And he said unot him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken. 22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zo-ar. 23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zo-ar. 24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Go-mor-rah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew, those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 26 But his wife looked back and from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. 27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: 28 And he looked toward Sodom and Go-mor-rah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as teh smoke of a furnace.

(Personal God fearing experience.)
I read the Gospel of Judas twice from top to bottom, and it was very different than that of The Word of GOD. It painted Jesus to be not compassionate at all, and said that he held Judas in the highest regards, in that text Jesus even mentions another person as the Christ. I lay in my room and I shut off the lights to ponder on which was correct, and I found this unknown station as I fumbled around with my (non digital) radio for "thinking music" I found a solo guitar playing softly. No words. I stayed sitting upward (to reach the radio) I didn't want to lay down and have the lyrics become distracting or go to a commercial which would also be distracting. The strumming of the guitar stayed constant only changing a couple of notes every so often and then returning to exactly the same. (Very convenient, I thought) so I lay back and began the thinking process. After about 4-5 minutes I stopped my pondering to reflect on the music that had remained constant. Then I continued my thoughts, after maybe about 8 more minutes when I got near the end of the Scriptures in my head I recalled it mentioned another Christ. At that point I knew for certain that these manuscripts were of Satan, and I am not joking in this. The absolute 'moment' that I came to that conclusion. That music that had been just playing simple tunes from a solo guitar that had been playing for over ten minutes... and I mean instantly my radio let out a blood curtling scream.. I mean loud and horrible and it kept going, with inaudible words. I listened for only a few seconds but my heart was ready to jump out of my chest I had to shut it off and then I still felt a little more alone than I had prior.. Like the Spirit of God was hovering eight feet above my bed but that distance was too great for me. I felt alone and then I prayed fervently
( My fear of GOD was that he wasn't close enough to me)

as definition_christ posted the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. As I read this post i glanced up at his age 17. I assumed him to be much older given the posts I've read of his. And in this is validation to his very posts, a wisdom beyond his years. I'm proud of you and pray my boys will be much like you when they are 17, you must be such a blessing to your folks!

A great point...that you are "under estimating the fear of the Lord." When you know that you are, it is likely "how" you think about what "the fear of the Lord" means.

There are several words for fear of the Lord and all of them mean the same thing...to put your TRUST in the Lord! Think about it, would you trust the flesh of man when you don't even trust yourself? Who else would you trust the secrets of your heart to? I pray the One who already knows every secret of your heart...Amen?

Pro 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
Pro 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
Pro 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
Pro 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

In closing, I would like to share a simple, living testimony with you and other readers that may encourage you about the fear of the Lord. When I was a babe in Christ, I heard many christians' point of view about this topic. Some of them were enstilling the same kind of afraid-fear I experienced with parents and other worldly authorities. Some of the feelings I had didn't feel like the love of the Father I had experienced. Always seeking THE TRUTH I asked The Holy Spirit. What does it really mean to fear You? He simply said, TRUST ME! Fear of the Lord is the first wisdom.

When we ask The Holy Spirit for The Truth, we patiently wait and He answers us, the righteousness of what He speaks has a resounding "I know that I know that I know!" There's no guessing. Yeager, I pray you will seek His truth, understanding and wisdom for every circumstance of your life.

His,

It means Yeager that you would with ABSOLUTION TRUST HIM IN ALL THINGS, including judgement....there is no justice without it. Judgement is His mercy.

1Co 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

We don't have to wait to be chasten by the Lord, we can chasten ourselves as did Daniel.

Dan 10:11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
Dan 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Php 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Php 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Let the Holy Spirit lead you into all Truth. The purging of the heart, transforming of the mind and the healing of the soul is a deep process and it takes time but to keep it simple, walk step by step with Him. Proverbs 3:5-6; Isaiah 55:8-9

Kingdom Blessings,

1jo 4:16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.1jo 4:17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.1jo 4:18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.1jo 4:19We love him, because he first loved us.

this could lean one toward an eternal salvation, if we love him we no longer have to fear Him. for we know that if we love Him that He loved us first, and if we know that He loves us, we know that His Love is a perfect love which would replace fear of Him destorying the body and soul, But redeeming us through His Love and with His Love,
