I am impresed again by God's reaction to Cain.
Genesis 4:3-6
God wasn't speechless and silent.
God is different.
He isn't like noiseless icons which are mute when someone offer sacrifice to them...and the person remain in error and fond delusion about what exactly his idols are...because the lack and absence of reaction can't help to learn the truth..
But God is different!!
He wants to show Cain (and us) His real Nature and Personality...
He didn't stay calm and silent.
He speaks!Because it will be dangerously and riskily mortally for Cain (and for us)to stay in false belief about God and His ways.
And His words show so much!
Thank You God that You speaks to us.

Another thing the lesson of Cain teaches us is that God speaks to sinners and the unsaved too, and just like Cain, they have the ability to listen to God and respond. Not just Christians.

Thank you for sharing your opinion.
For me it is really amazing that all people are able to hear God's voise. Not only belivers.
There is a doctrine which claims the opposite, but Cain wasn't born again when he spoke with God.
And God's care about Cain is amaizing, because Cain refused to obey and reconcile with God ,but God's heart was full of consern about Cain.

What the bible is silent about, we, too, remain silent.
well, i belive we can pray and ask God for wisdome Rosinky. and the bible does say to ask in the book of james. there are many things im sure we don't understand, and maybe never will on some issues, but it would be enteresting to know if anyone has heard a study on it before?

I agree, specially on things that can be revealed but we just may not understand it yet. However, when the bible is silent about some things and we start speculating (when we know our speculations will never lead to an answer), it never produces a beneficial outcome.

Even if we did find a study, it would be speculation that's well argued (or maybe not).

I guess, my point is not so much "don't do this." It's more of a brotherly reminder to be careful.

i see i guess i understand what you are saying. its just interesting to me in any case, that the bible does not say what that mark is. i know if God wants any of us to know anything, He will give us wisdome, and knowledge. God bless you.

Genesis 4:9
Then the Lord said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?".

This quetion came to me like a deep ocean!
And it is really so deep!!
Many times I have wandered is it the most important question that should be asked? And if I have to aks Cain what will be my question to him?
May be "Why you killed your brother?!"or something like this...
But God's question is different!
"Where is Abel ?...."
Let us read it again....."Cain,what do you think, now, when your brother isn't here, where do you suppose is he?...Do you think that his physical death is the end of all?!Where is he?Can you imagine that he is with Me now ?...But where then will you be after your death...?..."
So many things hidden in such short quetion!
And God let this question sounds in Cain's mind in all his life...
Thank You Lord about Your desire to aks us and to challange our minds and souls to think over the most important question in our life:where will we be after our physical death?!

its just interesting to me in any case, that the bible does not say what that mark is
There's plenty of bible commentary about the nature of the mark, try some oldies like Matthew Henry, Barnes, Wesley. From memory , most think it is something spiritual in nature. I think that it is symbolic and spiritual in nature can be determined from the scriptures.
I don't think anyone marked in the bible were walking around with stamps on their head.

Here's what Gill says about it:

and the Lord set a mark upon Cain; about which there is a variety of sentiments (a): some say it was a horn in his forehead: others, a leprosy in his face; others, a wild ghastly look; others, a shaking and trembling in all his limbs; and others, that there was an earthquake wherever he stepped: and others will have it, that the dog which guarded Abel's flock was given him to accompany him in his travels, by which sign it might be known that he was not to be attacked, or to direct him from taking any dangerous road: some say it was a letter imprinted on his forehead, either taken out of the great and glorious name of God, as the Targum of Jonathan, or out of his own name, as Jarchi; others the mark or sign of the covenant of circumcision (b): but as the word is often used for a sign or miracle, perhaps the better rendering and sense of the words may be, "and the Lord put", or "gave a sign" (c); that is, he wrought a miracle before him to assure him, that "whoever found him should not kill him": so that this was not a mark or sign to others, to direct or point out to them that they should not kill him, or to deter them from it; but was a sign or miracle confirming him in this, that no one should kill him; agreeably to which is the note of Aben Ezra,"it is right in my eyes that God made a sign (or wrought a miracle) for him, until he believed;''by which he was assured that his life would be secure, go where he would; even that no one should "strike" (d) him, as the word is, much less kill him.

Bistra, you said God let this question sound in cain's mind all his life. that is not true, because we don't serve a condemming God, but a forgiving one. Once we admite are sin, and ask for forgivness, we are forgiven and God does not get throwing are sin in our face over and over agian, no no, once we ask the bible says
Pro 28:13He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes [them] will have mercy.
Isa 1:18"Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.Isa 43:25"I, [even] I, [am] He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.Psa 103:12As far as the east is from the west, [So] far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Thank you Olivertree..
It is true that God forgive..
But I think Cain didn't aks for forgiveness in all his life.
And this question "Where is Abel?" is in his mind even now..Jesus himself said"Their worm does not die.."(Mark 9:44)Sometimes our sins are like worms which never die if we don't aks for God's forgiveness.
And Cain didn't aks..How can he success then to calm himself alone?!

here in this verse you see God's mercy for Cain.
Gen 4:14Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen [that] anyone who finds me will kill me."
Gen 4:15And the LORD said to him, "Therefore, [fn] whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
so i think that was some mercy from God.
