I'm very curious, often skeptical, when people say that God is 'speaking' to them. People seem to say this quite flippantly, and I'm not always sure what they mean. i.e. "God told me to talk to this person" or "God told me to buy this house".

For me, I can't recall ever having the experience of God actually speaking to me, as in, me hearing a booming voice telling me to do something.

God's communication with me so far has been the placing of thoughts in my mind in response to prayer, thoughts which are answers or solutions to problems that I know I couldn't have thought of myself. Also, placing heavy burdens on my heart, urging me to do something which I know I should be doing. I know that this is not just my 'conscience' telling me to do what is 'right' because what God wants and what is 'the right thing to do' aren't always the same.

How has God communicated with you?

If you think God has actually spoken to you in audible words, I'd like to hear about it.

Yes sorry that was a bit ambigious.

Proverbs 14:12 - There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

I would like to say that God never appears to people or speaks audibly to them. However, there are certain incontrovertable reasons why I cannot.

If I wanted to spell it out I would. God deals with us all as individuals.

I believe God speaks to all of us in his own way and at our own level. Quite often, not very clearly! Not that this is God's fault, of course, but we are so distracted, hard of heart, confused...we often don't realize that God is speaking to us, let alone what he is actually saying.

You likely won't find a voicemail from God, or a post it on your refrigerator, or have him shout down to you from the heavens, but he speaks to us daily. Often, it is that tugging at our heart that we feel leading us to do one thing or not to do another. Sometimes it is from the lips of another person that we can hear an underlying message from God trying to move us to do this or that.

Anyone who says "God told me to do this in the form of a ____" is highly suspect for me. If God really is telling you to do something, odds are he also told you not to go podcasting it all over the world. There's a great theme of Jesus healing folks and saying not to tell anyone who's done the healing.

I believe i have heard gods voice audiblly. Just like in the story of the bible of samuel and eli, God is calling samuels name and he runs to eli and says yes master you called me. Eli tells samuel to go back to bed, that he didnt call him.

I was going to do something very reckless and dangerous at one point in my life. I was angry and thinking very irrational. I was a christian, but i was feeling so overwhelmed with life i wanted to make it go away. I was standing in my room about to do this when I heard my name being called, but there was no one in the house. It freaked me out! Then i heard my name again. It was a very clear, like someone next to me had said it. I knew it was god, because i felt peace and finally calm after so many months of turmoil.

Once I was prophesying late at night on one of my walks I don't prophesy that often and this time what came out is "God Said, God Said, God said the Christianity you thought you knew would turn out to be backwards." I knew it was God I had no doubt at all. The next day I told my mom in the car and she looked at me like I was crazy but I knew it was God. A few days later we had a speaker at our church he's been there before and he had the gift of prophesy he's never been wrong before. I had to work that evening I thought I could just ditch work that night and decided to go to work because it wouldn't be right to miss. In the middle of the night my boss asks me if I wanted to take the rest of the night off, this happens rarely so I made it to the meeting and got prayed over and he prophesied "God Said, God Said, God said the Christianity you thought you knew would turn out to be backwards." I turned around to the congregation and looked at mom with the look of I told you so, she shrugged her shoulders looking like I know. Since then we both found out how backwards it is.

I found something else in my experiences these things that are amazing are unimpressive to the people who God works through. These things aren't unusual they are normal.

Not anyone can prophesy but every single serious Christian including some lukewarm ones as well should be able to hear God's voice. It is a learning experience to hear God's voice. Fill yourself with the Word of God Praise Him and wait upon the Lord wait patiently and quietly. Don't seek the hand of God, seek His face. I wish I could say more It depends on God's goodness, not yours.

God would never ask you to do something that wasn't the "right thing to do"...that astounds me that you would say that. Perhaps you misspoke.

No, the Lord has not spoken to me in “audible words,’ but I think he is constantly communicating to me.

I already explained this comment.

Have you asked God to talk to you? If you do ask do you be quite so you can hear him? Do you get in a quite place to here him and invite him to come? He wants to talk to you. Just let him. If you doubt people who hear him are you pretty much saying God doesn't talk to them. kinda like calling them and him liers? He talks to those who believe he can talk. Believe!

The problem is that people can deceive themselves and can be deceived. That is why I am cautious about discussing it.
