I wrote a thread a while ago about the evils of Halloween:

But there is something every Christian can do the night of October 31st. This is one of the few times that a bunch of people actually come to YOUR house! This would be an excellent opportunity to share the gospel with them. A good idea is to attach the gospel message to each candy. When people come to your house, hand them a candy with the message of salvation attached. Get your church to do it too! Please dont dress up in costumes, and do this the world's way, but take this opportunity to win a soul to Christ! An even better idea, is to go out and witness the gospel to a lost soul.

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. " Mark 16:15

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" Romans 10:13-15

"For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!" 1 Corinthians 9:16

"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise." Proverbs 11:30

Note: Make sure that the gospel presentation is clear, and that a sinner understands, that it is by believing on Christ(trusting on the finished work of Christ) to save them from their sins(they cannot be in denial of their sins and be saved). Please beware of the popular, but subtle Lordship salvation lie-

The lake of fire is the biggest danger the world faces! We need soulwinners to warn them about it!

"...it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:" Mark 9:45

"And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame." Luke 16:22-24

"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;" 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:15

"And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." Revelation 22:17

I think offering them eternal life is a little better than candy, don;t you?
I do. At least their teeth won't rot and their parents' dental bills are decreased.

Why can't you tell the gospel and give them candy as well? In fact I think you'd need to bribe them with candy only if they stay and listen to your message, by the time you've got through all that mumbo jumbo.

I have to admit that you're right to a great extent that without the bribing of candy, they won't stay through the "mumbo jumbo" lol. But the train of logic disturbs me... So, pastors should swear and make sexual jokes on the pulpit because people won't listen unless it's pop & secular?

you can use candy as a metaphor...

Perhaps with something like candy is sweet, but Jesus is sweeter.

Minus the swearing and sexual jokes ( I'm not sure what leads you to associate pastors or secularism with lewd speech), yes many pastors do use flashy presentations, nice music, jokes, to get their point across. Many of these churches have high attendance and growth rates too mind you.
But, we are talking about children here. And what's the difference between the stickers and stars you get at a church's Sunday school and handing out candy?

None. That we only do it because it is the cultural thing to do. It is related because it is about culture - giving candy and sticker stars to bribe someone into faith can be compared to providing a sermon with lewd jokes and language to "bribe" them into faith. I never said that it is wrong to give candy or star stickers - I merely said that the "well, just bribe them with candy" attitude is disturbing. :)

And there are many pastors who command the pulpit with lewd jokes, swearing, and the like. That is their argument - that you have to speak in the cultural language to get people to listen.

Food for thought? Or perhaps I should say, candy for thought?
