Has God ever spoken to you audibly?

Note that I am not asking if God CAN speak to someone audibly. I know he can speak to someone audibly.

I'm asking if he has spoken to you audibly, and if so, what did he say?

Also, do you have a history of mental illness? Do you take mental health drugs?

Additionally, are you charismatic?

Claims like these have been made on the site.

No, He has not. I always wondered what His voice would sound like.

Once...................... He said "My Son".... then "My son." Capital "S" on the first one, and a small "s' on the second one. Then the pain left. I was at work (night shift) after receiving a nasty letter from my mother. (family rejection in all directions).

Yes.

I asked the Lord if we could lose salvation.

His exact words in response were "I will never leave you nor forsake you".

No mental health issues. No mental health drugs taken. In fact, I would say I am more mentally stable after hearing God audibly than before.

That is not the only time I have heard His Voice audibly.

I don't know if I myself would be classified as charismatic but the churches I am drawn to are charismatic. Like the teaching that speaking in tongues is the first sign of salvation, I disagree with that. But genuine people being able to speak in tongues I do not discount because that gift is described in the bible. And I'm sure there are people who try to mimic the gift to make it seem like they have it when they don't.

Yes, one time only, He spoke to me audibly. I can't tell you what the voice sounded like, such as timbre, quality, because I don't remember, which is odd, but the voice came just above my left ear, from outside of me and I felt breath on my ear too.

No mental illness history or any drugs for mental illness.

The words were: Do you trust Me?

Audible inside your head, or outside your head? If outside, i would say mental illness! Even when God spoke to Paul in Acts 9 on the road to Damascus, his fellow travellers did not hear the voice.

God spoke to me clearly when he saved me. He spoke to me when he called me to a Baptist church, when I had been out of fellowship for 2 years. He spoke to me in the early 1990's when he called me to seminary, giving me information I did not know. He spoke to me in 2005 when he called me to seminary the second time. It was the same voice, but in my head. And not intrusive thoughts.

I was unsaved when he spoke to me the first time. I can still hear it, it was so powerful. It was a voice you couod not deny! I was Pentecostal the second time he spoke to me, to call me to seminary. I was broken and hurting, sitting in a Baptist church when he spoke to me the next time, and what he told me came to pass! I was Baptist when he called me the second time to seminary.

I don't think the denomination has anything to do with it! God can speak to anyone he wants, when he wants!

Oh, and God speaks to me all the time in his Word. He also speaks to me when I pray, if I take the time to listen! But that is the "small, still voice." The kind that spoke to Elijah!

"To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice." John 10:3-4

Not sure how you can NOT hear the voice of the good Shepherd, if you are following him. Although I do know people who have not heard God's voice, who follow Christ by faith. I'm more of a doubting Thomas, it helps to hear his voice, especially when he saved me. I had to see, (well, hear) to believe. No, i have never seen God!

PS I work with the mentally ill. The Christians hear his voice, and they say it is different than audio hallucinations. The non Christians do not hear his voice. That makes sense to me!

He has in the past told me to pray with strangers, comfort strangers and give money to strangers in a very audible voice. I usually hear from God in a non audible way, mostly by what I call "downloads" of information at night and sometimes by instant revelation of the Word. I have also been blessed with very, very limited visions. I used to hear from Him more when I journaled but I do not journal as much these days, I should probably start that again.

Hebrews 1:1 ¶ God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

I do expect to hear His voice when He calls me up from this world into His presence to abide forever.

I have never heard him speak to me out loud either...but I too have wondered what his voice would sound like,:)
With me, He spoke in that way because of my lack of faith. I was very distraught over thinking my mom would never meet Him before she died and my faith was very new. So I suspect it happens to those of us with little faith maybe. I don't expect it to happen again because He said the 4 perfect words and I can't imagine any other words would ever be necessary.

I can't remember what His voice was like or sounded like in the same way that when I am walking beside Him in my dreams, I never see His face...

The Bible says His voice sounds like thunder. I have never audibly heard His voice. He speaks to me through the Bible, through my conscience, and through dreams.

The Bible also says He has a "still small voice"..

1 Kings 19:12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

I rather think the still small voice is personal and the thunder is what other men heard when one man in their company was addressed...they heard something, for sure, but it was the man God wished to speak to who heard words. Interesting!
