Really good video talking about the gift of tongues and how it is still a gift for today.
It's just to be treated differently than how most charismatic churches treat it, according to scripture: 1 Corinthians 14:27-28King James Version (KJV)

27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

Also tongues are a sign for unbelievers and should be used in evangelizing tribes and nations where you don't know the language of their language, but you have the gift of tongues, this is evident in acts where all sorts of people heard the disciples speaking in their own language, even though they were speaking in tongues.

Lastly, this preacher is reformed and so am I, I don't think gifts of the spirit and the reformed faith are incompatible as I've heard people say in the past.

All of the above is touched upon on the video, so I urge you to watch it.

Maby you should ask believers from the time before the year 1900. For the most Pentecostals and Charismatics speaking in tongues is combined with the 2nd Baptist with the Holy Spirit. Before 1900 you won't find this 2nd baptism.

I do not want to give it 20 minutes of my life, I watched it 4 minutes or so.

I think that he did not realize the context of what he is reading. Prophecies, tongues... (all revelations for churches). Then, when the perfect (revelation) comes, the tongues will cease.

We now have the complete word of God, we do not need any tongues or prophecies. When the OT books were finished, the prophets also disappeared for 400 years.

I agree that the way it's done in pentecostals and charismatic churches is wrong, and it's not scriptural, where there are people speaking in tongues, there should always be someone interpreting, if there's no interpreter no one should speak, but speak to himself.

He adresses the thought that the complete canon of the scripture is when tongues would cease, but he explains it away very well, when what is perfect comes, that is when we meet Jesus face to face, that's when tongues will cease, not now.

I have watched to 8 minutes and agree that the spiritual gifts are still for today.

Many people misrepresent what speaking in tongues is and think it a "heavenly language" that makes no sense.

However I believe in a church setting or while evangelizing God gives the gift of tongues to those speaking to people who don't have a common language. They don't spend years studying to be able to speak this language but it's a divine gift...some may add to this gift, study but the ability to speak other la guages or understand them is from God alone.

It's one I dont believe God gave me, but I respect that He does give it to some.

I watch some videos of folks speaking "heavenly languages" and it sounded like Sanskrit with lots of names of Hindu deities, another you could clearly hear the person say "Allah" over and over again. So yeah they are speaking in tongues and it is probably a demonic language.

Before the tower of Babel, all the world spoke one language.
.the bible says "even if you speak in the tongues of angels, without love it's nothing"

I have to drive to church to watch cute little babies. Will try and listen to the rest of the video later.

I agree with what you said, in the video he mentions someone heard what seemed to be hebrew in a meeting where people were speaking in tongues and he brought a friend who knew hebrew, and it turns out it was demonic since they were cursing God.

Can you tell me, why should tongues cease when the Jesus comes? The logical explanation.

He explains it in the video, that's when Paul says he sees face to face, that's when what's perfect comes, when we are face to face with Jesus.

No, I want to hear the logical reason behind the fact that when Jesus comes, the tongues will cease.

Not the reason for this theological view. But the factual reason for such ceasation.

I can only think it will all be perfect, so no need for tongues as we know them today, we'll probably all speak the same language, or we will communicate a different way (by thought maybe), I can only speculate about that, all I can say for certain is that it will be perfect.

And thats why this explanation is not logical. When you say that we will not need tongues and prophecies, when we will have the Bible, it makes sense.

When you say that we will not need spiritual languages when the spiritual realm will come... it actually makes no sense.

This needs to be clarified I Corinthians 14:21 Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.

To say that it was
never around until the 1900's is not true, here's an Article on Tongues that goes back to Augustus and before talking about those that spoke in tongues. I agree most all of what is going on in the Church today are learned tongues not Spirit inspired tongues. I will say that I have spoken in tongues by inspiration of the Spirit 3 to 4 time. It was quite over whelming and there was an interpretation. But I can't duplicate it on demand, it doesn't work like that. I always joke about and tell people that all they have to do is say mama-road-honda-daddy-drova-caddy as fast as they can and they'll be speaking in tongues. Some of the madness that gets blamed on the Spirit is blasphemy. The Spirit does not bring confusion, He bring self control, He is gentle, He brings order and He testifies of Jesus.

I believe these tongues in I Corinthians 14:21 are the tongues that were on the 120 in a language that speak of the wondrous works of God. I had an uncle that was Samoan
that did not believe in tongues and was in a service and a man begin to speak in a tongue and it was Samoan so he changed his mind on tongues.

I would agree except for the part about prophets (those who declare that which is written) In that case you as a prophet would be gone .Its what message boards do prophecy by declaring the gospel as it is written, sharing our private interpretations as opinions of His book of the law, the bible. Hoping God will apply it to our hearts as he continues to form Christ in us.

Tongues served two purposes.Tongues as “prophecy” are for those that do not rebel against Christ they hear God. Tongues as sign for the rebellious against those who go above that was written. That prophecy that Peter spoke, being moved by the Spirit of Christ was interpreted by the Holy Sprit all the nation heard it as God gave them ears in own each one as God did the interpreting believed God.

Since we have the whole or perfect will of God with no words missing we no longer have in part. That alone would make the possibility of receiving a new revelation impossible. As far as sign to those who believe not (no faith) it continues to work as God sends them a strong delusion to believe the lie. It is not that prophets have disappeared but the possibility of a new relation, prophesy.

Therefore if any man says thus says the lord I heard a voice outside of ones own heart or a vision.. He was here or there. We are commanded to believe not (no faith)

At some point it would be interesting to talk about the other 8 gifts of the Spirit and not always about tongues.

Lol, yes lets use our tongues for another purpose for once. You know, to speak about other gifts of the Spirit. I do find there are really fascinating things about tongues, their purpose in intercession and fellowship with God, but too often it just becomes a debate upon control instead of the way the gift edifies.

I watched the video I pretty much agree with all of it. The Mark 16 verses he read are not in the older manuscripts. What does that guy believe, the reason I ask is the Scripture he had posted.

I fear there is no discussion of the other 8 because many may not have a true understanding of what they are and how they manifest.

9 Gifts/3 categories of 3

1-vocal gifts
2-revelation gifts
3-power gifts

He is reformed and believes in the continuation of gifts today.
