God told Cain that
sin was crouching at the door and
"ITS" desire was for you....in Gen 4:7
In Romans this "
entity called sin" is in our flesh. ( which is why we were circumcised with the circumcision of Christ - circumcised of the heart and flesh - ie. the cutting away of our heart/inner man from our flesh...sealed with the Holy Spirit )
Romans 7:17-23 (NASB)
[SUP]
17 [/SUP] So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but
sin which dwells in me.
[SUP]
18 [/SUP] For I know that nothing good
dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good
is not.
[SUP]
19 [/SUP] For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.
[SUP]
20 [/SUP] But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
[SUP]
21 [/SUP] I find then the
principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.
[SUP]
22 [/SUP] For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man,
[SUP]
23 [/SUP] but I see a
different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of
the law of sin which is in my members.
Sin is like an entity. Vines puts it like this..
(b)
a governing principle or power, e.g.,
Rom. 6:6; "(the body) of sin,"
here "sin" is spoken of as an organized power,
acting through the members of the body, and in other passages, as follows,
this governing principle is personified,
Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.
