“And God said moreover to Moses, Thus shall you say to the children of Israel, the LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial to all generations. "(exodus 3:15)

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Heb 13:8)

How can God's name change? Why did the Lord God change his name to the Lord Jesus?

Leean,

That's an interesting question, and one that I hope you are asking with good intention. I will start praying about it.

Love in Jesus,

That was not a name change, but an additional name. *Jesus* (Heb Yeshua) means GOD IS OUR SALVATION, so when the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, He came as the Savior who would die for the sins of the whole world. Jesus and God have many names and titles, which means that they are not limited to one name or title.

No one will know His true name, or, title, until the prophesy of Zephaniah comes about, when our Father will give us a pure tongue (language) for all to know and His Name. so all will be able to call upon Him with one name.

Exo_6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
Psa_83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
Isa_12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Isa_26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

The above verses are about Jesus, So different names in different times and languages but the same God.

Exo 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Exo 3:15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations. .......
Exo 6:1 Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.
Exo 6:2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:
Exo 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
Exo 6:4 And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.
Exo 6:5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
Exo 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:

Joh 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
Joh 8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

I think it is good to remember something when discussing the burning bush:
‘This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, “Who made you ruler and judge?” He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush. Acts7:35

Jesus is his earthly human name, he had to be given a name while he walked the earth, and that name is now above all names.

*Jesus* (Heb Yeshua) means GOD IS OUR SALVATION
not even an 'additional' name, actually --

For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour
(Isaiah 43:3)
I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from Me there is no Savior.
(Isaiah 43:11)
Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me:
for Thou art the God of my salvation;
on Thee do I wait all the day.
(Psalm 25:5)
draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me:
say unto my soul, I am thy Salvation
(Psalm 35:3)
He only is my Rock and my Salvation;
He is my Defence;
I shall not be greatly moved
(Psalm 62:2)

and there are many more verses i could quote to the effect..

His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns.
He has a name written on Him that no one knows but He Himself.
He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God.
(Revelation 19:12-13)
i wouldn't say 'changed' but rather, 'made known'

Yeshi (my Redeemer) yahu (The Self-existing (Yahweh))

Jesse is also Yeshi.

David means beloved the Son of Yeshi.

YeshiYahu is also Isaiah...

All are groupings of words proclaiming our Maker.

The word 'name' as used in the bible and also in the old times simply means authority and God by declaring His name to be I AM for all generations simply meant that His authorities are timeless. He is identified by many authorities which include savior (Jesus) and His salvation is timeless.

Jesus when confronted by the Pharisees, used that name (I AM) correctly to show that He is indeed timeless; "...before Abraham, I AM.." instead of saying, "I WAS before Abraham" which would mean that His authority is time dependent.

How can God's name change? Why did the Lord God change his name to the Lord Jesus?
IMO,GOD was relating to man In the way man would understand easier.

Jesus said, you believe In GOD,believe also In me.

JESUS is the WORD of GOD.

Man could not see GOD but they could see JESUS.
