In other words, he was dressed as HE saw fit not as God expected?
Self righteous not concerned about how God saw him. He dressed the way that seemed right in his eyes but the end thereof was destruction.
Assuming God doesn't really care.
They worship with their lips but their hearts are far from Him. God does seek an attitude of worship when we assemble together as believers.
What happened to the priests in the Tabernacle, how were they to dress? Any ole way?

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
The vale of the temple was rent in twain so we can enter without fear. We are told to come boldly into the presence of our God. That said it cannot be prudent to mock holy things. Perhaps if folks had a sense of the holiness and purity of God they would not endeavor to enter His presence with so caviler an attitude.

There are great cultural differences in how folks gather in Gods house.

Is our dress a reflection of our attitude?
I would be inclined to answer in the affirmative. With the proviso that some may be economically unable to dress as they would wish to dress. Not for self but to honor the Lord. My problem would be with the guy who has a closet full of dress clothes for work but dresses like a slob for church.

It has been a long standing tenent that when one comes to church, one should wear the best one has. If the best is tennis shoes and jeans, so be it, but at that point, one should try to imporve their Sabbath attire as can be afforded. (The Salvation Army or Goodwill commonly have very nice clothing at very affordable prices.)

Mat 22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
Mat 22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
Mat 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Mat 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

"A kittel
is a white linen robe worn by Jewish men on special occasions to signify purity, holiness and new beginnings. Traditionally, a Jewish man first wears a kittel on his wedding day, thereafter on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Passover, and ultimately as a burial shroud."

maybe one of our Jewish brothers or sisters can further enlighten us.

it's interesting to me that the garment a groom wore at his wedding also served as his clothing for the Lord's feast days and for his own funeral.

well seeing as i dont need a suit on workdays since im a chef, i doubt wasting money on a suit just for church would seem prudent. you can look nice without a suit or a tie. BUt then our pastor wears jeans and a sweater. So maybe i just go to a rather not material/appearance driven church.

Myself, I'm in suits (usually three-piece), well-pressed shirts (usually but not always white), and bow ties - only bow ties - for church. For that matter, I'm suited, buttoned-up, and bow tied the rest of the week for work! For women, I prefer to see them either in suits (skirted suits, not pants suits!) or nice, conservative dresses.

I am one of those who do not like wearing a suit and tie. I wear a dress shirt and Pants nice shoes. I just wait for the day someone asks why I don't wear a tie. I would argue that my shirt and pants cost as much as their suit. So is it the money or tridition? Having said this.

Somone here posted a utube of a baptist preacher, I watched it,LET ME SAY I DON'T AGREE WITHBAPTIST TEACHINGS ON SALVATION AND MANY OTHER THINGS. bUT, I LIKE HIS POINTS ON DRESS. He talked about how that we are Ambassors for Christ and we are. And how we should look our best, not flashy, but as nice as we can. Some people don't have the money for nice clothes. And we should never look down our nose. He talked about how people looked at us. Do they take us serious. It got me to thinking I can do better. He made many good points. So you can teach an old dog new tricks. I would call dressing for a purpose, not to IMPRESS, Lord it Over, But, show a serious side, when we found our first love we did all we could to look nice for her. She never died for us. Just some thoughts.

Your latter points are why I dress as I do. My suits and bow ties aren't flashy but rather conservative. I've been suited, buttoned-up, and bow tied from the very beginning of high school. It was Catholic high school and the guys had to wear ties. I just made mine bow ties. It was at that same point that I also made it a point to wear suits and bow ties to church on Sunday, which made my mother quite happy! Just figured I should be as well-dressed and reverent as possible.

As a professional in the food preparation business I venture to say that you do not just throw any old thing in the pot and make soup out of it. I have attended church with a number of different chefs over the years. They did not express any major concerns about wearing coats and ties to church. Our pastor does not come dressed in jeans and a sweater although he has opined that he would love to preach in bib overhauls.

As believers we are to be sanctified to the Lords service. I see no compelling reason that our church services cannot or should not be separate from our outside activities. I wouldn't wear a business suit to a ball game and I wouldn't wear my cleats and sweats to church.

That's just me your mileage may vary.

Wow!!! You know I have never heard of that happening here. People are free to wear what ever they have or which to wear without being judged. Churches that deny the word of God to a person simply because we as humans do not approve of their attire is shameful. They should not even be called churches, they are just empty shells of something that resembles a church but isn't - a wolf in sheep's clothing. I think they need to remember that when God created us what were we wearing? NOTHING we were naked and only after we sinned did it become such a big thing. Places such as you mentioned should not exist today.
I fully agree with you on this topic.
