It seems now that everyone around me, even Christians are thinking about getting or are involved in the stocks. Personally i think it's unbiblical because it is gambling, just more sophisticated. Christians around me say otherwise because they can "make quick money" and its smarter than doing manual labor (insulting me because i work at a restaurant, which by the way is a job that God provided for me by his grace) and so forth. I was shocked at them because of how they defended it like if it was their Mom or something.

Now i just want to know what you guys think about stocks. Is it biblical principle or is it sophisticated gambling?

I don't think it is a sin to invest in anything. However it does come with. Warning Label......I Timothy 3 v 10+17

"Got the LOVE of money is the root of all evil: which while some covet after , they have erred from the Faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows"

"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, NOR TRUST IN UNCERTAIN RICHES, but in the Living God who giveth us richly all things to enjoy" Amen.

We should not be obsessed with "getting ahead" chasing money constantly. If we keep God FIRST, he will bless us.

If you are investing, then there is nothing wrong. If you are speculating, then you need to examine your motivations.

I agree with Char, there is nothing wrong with investing your savings. Specualting to make quick money is more like gambling a resource God has given you..not good.

If you put it in context, stocks and shares is how we get the returns on our pensions, most firms biggest shareholders are pension funds, well atleast here in the UK.

Blessings

Its not gambling. Its purchasing a part of a company.

Unlike gambling, you don't gain at the expense of other people.

Also, you don't receive benefit because of luck. You receive it because of your labour/hard work.

Although its not at all like gambling, it can be addictive like gambling. I got totally addicted to it a couple of years ago and it was all I ever did. Graphs, charts, red/green numbers, can seduce the brain just like a poker machine. So be careful.

Gambling to me is playing The Lottery, or betting on Sports, Horses, Greyhounds, or where it is taking an Unessesary risk for financial gain.
