I have recently noticed and enormous amount of preachers stating that if you have a certain sin in your life that it may be a very real fact that you are not a true believer.

Say for example a young teenager believes in Christ as his Lord and strives to obey God's commands. Let's say that kid struggles with cussing and on a daily basis, but is convicted of it and prays over this fact and genuinely hates it and wants to stop, but years of habit keeps a hold for now.

Is this child saved or is he not a child of God because this one sin he struggles with the most? Who is to say he will not have victory over the sin? Would he only be a true believer when that victory comes and Christ has broken the hold of that sin in him?

What are your thoughts on this and what are some verses you may want to share?

There are verses that say believe and you are saved and there are also verses that say to do good deeds as a result. So many interpretations of all these verses lead to many views and it can confuse people.

Yes the bible does say that if you believe you are saved but with beliefe comes actions, which some may refer to as works.

I do think the person is still a believer if they have a sin that they continue to go to the Lord about. If we do not pray about this sin then thats where the problem is. I do no know anyone who got saved and then never sinned again. That is not possible. This walk is a daily dying of the flesh. We should be constantly going to the Lord, seeking not only forgiveness of sin, but knowledge, wisdom, discernment and strength so we do not repeat the same things over and over again.

Hi Brandon; from my studies, i got that understanding through the story of Joseph and the Paitriarcel fathers of Isreal.

The understanding that i got was this; Once you know who YAHAVAH is, (otherwise you wouldn't truly know who your repenting to) and also until you Do know him, any sin done by us, is sin in ignorance(mercy).

That at that time you repent Once! in and through the acknowledgment of Why Christ died on the cross;
1: To Defeat Death

2: To Become The New Testimony of how to enter into The Holy of Holies.

3: To become The High Preist for ALL, so that we being the sinners that we are, are able to enter into that Holy of Holies and repent Once, otherwise you would be doubting his forgiveness.

After that; then you just cleanse yourself daily in the Lord"s Prayer, THANKING him for the forgiveness of our sins that we do commit daily, in and through Christ. After all, this, in all its simplicity, amounts to ill communication and how can you possibley escape that.

So unless you Blaspheme God or lose your cool with one of his children, then you have no need of repenting again, but rather, do thank him for his forgiveness of the sins that we all have and do transgress against him daily.

Israel, though they dig themselves deeper into hell everyday, I will save them, for I AM God (Get Over Death) Almighty, Creator of Life, Source of Love, always have been, still am and always will be Forever & Ever, That's That! (amen)

Key to the whole thing is our Sincerity when we Pray.
Hope this helps.

Love and Peace to ALL in CHRIST!!!Forever! :)

My personal understanding Brandon is that such a position is not scriptural. The way it is taught in seminary is that when you initially accept Christ's atonement for your sin you are at that justified before God in Christ and spiritually reborn. Then a life long process of sanctification begins where God uses the circumstances in your life, both good and bad, to slowly mold you ever more into the image of Christ. Finally, when your mortal body dies you enter into a glorified state.

So ongoing repentance is part of the process of sanctification and has nothing to do with your eternal salvation which was secured by the work and the person of Jesus Christ. The struggle for sanctification from sinful habits in your life after conversion is normal. Sometimes God supernaturally removes them and sometimes there is a painful battle for victory that can last a short time or a long time.

For example, when I believed upon the work of Christ for my sin I was immediately supernaturally delivered from all drug use and never touched them again. I still smoked; however, and struggled desperately with that for serveral months until finally I went in and told my pastor and hands were laid on me. I didn't feel anything and walked away disappointed but I had been delivered and the craving never came back and I haven't had a cigarette in 23 years nor wanted one if they were smoked around me. I have no desire since that day for one. To overcome alcohol, I was put in the middle of a room and prayed for and that broke the grip BUT I'm not sure if I would have maintained sobriety from alcohol had I not attended support groups for that. I've been celibate for 23 years myself but that doesn't mean I haven't fought every man's battle with lust friend.

My point is that in Christ you are justified before God and being sanctified. It is sometimes painful and laborous and you'll never be perfect in this lifetime. But you should never quit seeking victory and not be ashamed to be part of Christian support groups if you are not supernaturally delivered from whatever fleshly issue you're struggling with. Whether quickly or slowly eventually we do become better people through God working in us if we are willing.

No sinner can do his own confession and repentance work. This is all done by the Lord if you're his chosen one. The pastors are lying to you and all other Christians.

The Bible says a Spirit led life will not fulfill the desires of the flesh,so a person that is truly serious about quitting cussing can do it by the Spirit.
It would seem like if a person has trouble with cussing that goes on for a year, they truly do not want to get rid of it,or they do not know that the Spirit will lead them.

Maybe some people do not know the Bible well enough to know the importance of abstaining from sin.

That is why the Bible says work out your own salvation with fear and trembling because it is up to us to allow the Spirit to lead us wanting to do good,so we are not one of the ones that have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof.

Peter was definitely a man of God,but had prejudice in his life 14 years after Pentecost, but I am sure he straightened that out,so sometimes some people will have sin in their life, but they have to straighten it out.

1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us(Hebrews 12:1).

Everything is in God's control so if takes away your cussing, that's great. If he makes you a sinless saint to preach the gospel, that's great.

My point wasn't that the sinner never quits that sin; it's if the sinner currently has it in his life but is genuinely striving and praying for victory over it.

The Lord disciplines us for our sins. It is for our own good.

Other than that, what is there to worry about?

(1Jn 1:8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

We all have sin in our lives albeit to some greater or lesser degree. Anyone who says that they have no sin is has no truth within him/her. Pastors and preachers are not exempt to biblical truth. If we could abstain from sinning of our own device there would be no need for the sacrifice of Jesus. Jesus did not die on the cross to empower us to sin no more rather than to free us from the bondage of sin, which is death (eternal separation from God).

We all sin. Now however the blood of Jesus washes us clean of our sins when we confess them (leave them at the foot of cross).

There is a difference between living under the condemnation of the old covenant of the law, which is death, and living under the new covenant, which is under the Spirit of the law, which is life.

brother,I know alot of well intended people will try to help you but I would point out this fact,Peter cussed on the night that Christ was crucified so do not be discouraged.Do not let anyone condemn you of anything,I think if you confess it to the LORD with a true repenant heart God knows your sincerity.Ask the Father to take that desire out of your life and call it done in the powerful name of Jesus Christ our LORD,God bless and keep you,AMEN

Im sorry but I'd have to disagree with parts of your statement. There sometimes are things in peoples lives that continually arise even if they go to the Lord on a regular basis about it. It is unfair to say that a person that uses profanity doesnt really want it out of their life. Some deliverences are longer and harder than others.

Most do know the importance of absatining from sin, however it is impossible to never sin. Even if you do no commit a sinful act, your thoughts may be sinful and thus you have sinned.

It is bad if we willfully sin, knowing that it is wrong but doing it anyway. An adiction is something God has to help you overcome. Read the King James Version of the Bible outloud every day until you stop cursing. You may start talking funny but thats better than cursing.

Me overcoming cussing is not my point, people. That was just an example I used to explain any sort of situation someone could be under. My point is to question these preachers saying that if you have a struggle with a certain sin in your life, then you're not a true believer.

The thief on the cross joined Jesus in paradise... He sure didn't have much time for making ammends while still alive. (but he asked for forgiveness)

To be broken over our sin is a good sign we have Christ in us. To make excuses for our sin and be numb and apathetic to offences against the Word of God is a good sign we don't have Christ in us.

He promises to complete the work he starts in us and in our being broken come the strength for repentance.

The Spirit of God purifies us from the inside out, he gives us the strength to overcome as we yield to the knowing the works of the flesh are condemed and we share in Christs death where sin was condemned.

We share in his reserection as the spirit empowers us to turn away from the leading of the flesh and be led by his spirit of truth. We are his works in progress, promised perfection..

Daily yielding to his spirit within you. Let the spirt convict you of your sin. Jesus didn't come to cover up our deprived state he came to change us and give us a new life and new hope. Grace is not the power of God to walk in the flesh and freely sin.

Grace is the power of God to free us from our sinful nature.

People mis quote the bible to justify their condition.. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but by the spirt. if you are following your sinful nature prepare for condemnation because that condemnation will hurt enough to turn you from your sin. When he corrects us we know we are his..

The thief on the cross found life in the death of his flesh. The message is not an excuse to ignore Gods desire to work life by the spirit in you.. We can not overcome sin, but, God will overcome sin in us. Our faith in grace is knowing he is working in us inspite of our sinful nature. knowing we learn obedience through suffering, knowing the ripping of our flesh is birthing new life in us. wake up sleepers, if you hear his voice do not turn away.

My example didn't include "To make excuses for our sin and be numb and apathetic to offences against the Word of God"... I was wondering about the condition of those who have a certain sin in their life they struggle with and ADMIT it and are genuinely praying and making effort to change and want to obey God. I have just been hearing a lot of teachers say they are not true believers.
