In short, baptism just means immerse, or plunge, or dip , like plunging a hot metal bar in cold water to harden it. I think that's the original meaning. So no, there's not just water baptism, the word baptism can be used in different contexts.

Christ baptizes with the Holy Ghost and with fire (Luke 3:16, Acts 1:4-5)
So the baptism with the Holy Spirit is a different one that the one with "fire" ? i was about to point that verse out . Also, when exactly did Jesus baptize people in this manner? dont people say that the Holy Spirit wasnt given until Jesus died and went to heaven ? or was this when he breathed on them and said "receive the Spirit" ?

Well yes it is different, in the next verse John says that in reference to Christ; "but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire"

That is eternal fire that burns up all that is ungodly and unrighteous and this baptizim comes after the baptizim of the Holy Ghost that was sent by Christ on Pentecost, it is a yet future event.

Baptizim of the Holy Ghost intially came as fullfillment of Joel 2:28 which served the purpose of empowering the Apostles.

The term baptism does literally mean to dip, immerse, or plunge. The most natural and universal medium is water. In Scripture it appears that unless there is some limit language in the context, such as Holy Spirit, fire, etc., the medium is water.

It was the default understanding of the Ethiopian nobleman, who asked "See here is water, what hinders me from being baptized."

Cup-of-Ruin posted this below:

Christ baptizes with the Holy Ghost and with fire (Luke 3:16, Acts 1:4-5)
That baptism of the Holy Ghost and with fire is a one time event as it happens at salvation.

1 Corinthians 12:13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Ephesians 4:4There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Wayward believers will testify of another baptism, but it is against scriptures. They are preaching another spirit to receive which is not in according to the Gospel of Christ.

So there is water baptism which is not a requirment for salvation and there is that one baptism of the Holy Spirit which is the promise for all those that come to Jesus.

Ephesians 1;12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. 15Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

Galatians 3:14That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. ......26For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Our faith in Christ has put on Christ and thus we are wearing our wedding garment when Christ brings us Home faultless to His glory.

Colossians 1: 21And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: 23If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Jude 1:24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Greetings,

Paul is correct at the same time, there is only one baptizim for the believer, but their are different methods of that baptizim, which John the Baptist tells us, he baptized with water but Christ baptizes with the Holy Ghost or for the ungodly and unrighteous works baptizim by eternal fire, that's a different type of baptizim of which they will recieve once just like the Apostles recieved the Holy Ghost baptizim once. There is only one true baptizim, for example Paul in Acts 19:2 -

"He said unto them, "have ye recieved the Holy Ghost since ye believed?' And they said unto them, "We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost."

3. And he said unto them, "Unto what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Unto John's baptizim."

4. Then Paul said, "John verily baptized with the baptizim of repentence saying unto the people, that they should believe on Him Which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus.

5. When they heard this they were baptized (immersed) in the name of the Lord Jesus."

Then the Holy Ghost come upon them after their baptizim of the name of the Lord Jesus, so we have another type of baptizim which is in the name of the Lord. These believers were baptized twice by two different methods first by John by water representing repentence (Luke 3:3) and the belief of Him that was to come, but was that the one true baptizim?, No, because they said they had not received nor did they even know of the Holy Ghost, so Paul baptizing them again, into the name of Jesus Christ to represent that He had come and they believed that He had come and the Holy Ghost then decended on them.

There are differnt types of baptizim there is also baptizim into the body of Christ Romans 6:23 and Romans 10:9-13. What they all have is the one true baptizim Eph. 4:5

Christ was Himself baptized with the fire for He said in Luke 12:50 "There is a terrible baptizim ahead of me, for I am under heavy burden until it is accomplished" The Bible says that every man's work will be made manifest and tried and revealed by fire 1 Cor. 3:13. The Bible is full of men and women of God who have been tried in this type of baptizim.

There are different types of baptizim but only one baptizim into Christ and that is by His name and His Word and the belief that He has come and will come again.

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

Here we see 3 baptisms, water, Holy Spirit, and fire.

hello every one

first of all, what is water baptisam. jesus is our teacher. he teach the apostles and the apostles teach other, and as we Read the Bible that how God is Talking to us by Reading his word, as we read God word we Must understand what it Mean when it come to be born again, Jesus made it cleair to
NICODEMUS that one must be born of water and the spirit, John 3;5 as we enter the water we are to be buried with christ through baptisam into death in order that .just as christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the father we too <-- may live a new life See Romans 6; v > 3 . 4 here apostles paul teaching about being baptized in Romans 6,1-8 there a list
of scripture where it say water and baptized when Peter told the sinner what they must do to be saved in acts 2.38 only 3000
accepted peter message and were water baptized, if you go back to Acts 2; v 5 you will see that there were every nation was there to here the Peter Message at the day of pentecost. which is the church of Jerusalem in luke 24;v 44-49 you will read what Jesus told the apostles where to waite in the city.before GOD Sent down the power to the apostles that he promised
to them. because the power that God give the apostle to preach other foreign language to other nation. so they could understand what they were preaching about? that why Jesus told the apostles in luke ;24. v 45 .46 ,47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. so peter took the keys to the kingdom to open the gate ot door to those who want salvation. in acts 2;38 peter told the sinner they had ( 1 ) > repent ( 2 ) be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ<--- for what? Answer--> Forgiveness of your sin <-- after your sin is forgiven
then you shall Receive the gift of the holy spirit, then you are a born again? christian, you do not want the baptism of fire,,
that is talking about the second death that is talking about the lake of fire, that is a baptism also. see Rev; 20.v 14
in->Matthew .3 v 11 > "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. you see there is ( 2 ) baptized
here! you got ( 1 ) water baptized, ( 2 ) lake of fire baptized. so yes you have to be baptized to be saved in mark 16,v 16
Jesuse said New International Version (©1984)
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
so don't be like the the teacher of the law the pharisees because they ReJected for not being water baptized. see luke> 7.v30 yes water baptized is commanded see matthew 28;16-20
if you feel you want to ask me any question write back and i answer you question at any time
thank you

Are you asking about baptism in reference to following Christ in baptism or are you asking about different forms of baptism like sprinkling instead of immersion? Jesus was baptised by immersion and that is the traditional form of baptism used by most denominations. The more liturgical denominations practise sprinkling or the pouring of the water over the head.

Then there is the whole issue of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. We are indwelt by the Holy Spirit when we receive Christ and become believers. Then there is the baptism of fire which the Holy Spirit does to us to set us aside for ministry or service. There are some who say that this baptism is accompanied by the gift of tongues but I believe that the Holy Spirit equips us with whatever gifts He deems necessary so we can do what we are called to do. In my case it was the gift of, teaching, preaching and prophecy. I have never spoken in tongues but I have been baptised (equipped) by the Holy Spirit.

if you read your BIble a bit closer. you see where it said in Matthew;3 v ( 11 ) through 12
I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

this is talking about spiritual death this is talking about the lake of fire >this is also a baptisam
if you go to a lake or river or a pond that has water in it and some one pick you up and thrown
you in it and get--> wet. this is the same baptized but not water.. this is talking about FIRE!
When you are in your Physical body you are a liveing soul, when you get baptized in water
only your flesh hit the water,, not your soul. when you die that when your soul is seperated
from your body.and your soul move on to the lord to be Judge for the thing you done in your life,
if you do good.. then your safe,, BUT! IF YOU DID BAD.. Where do you think you go next,
well Revelation 20; v14 will l tell you all about the fire that you were talking about, this is
the baptisam of fire that you were talking about, --->Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. this is talking about spirture death.

You See you have a 2 lake here ( 1 ) with water ( 2 ) and one with fire,

read verry close what john the baptis saying in matthew ;3 v 12 -->His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with ------>..unquenchable fire." so i Just want to make that clear so you
understand what this scripture is talking about,

thank you dean

Precious Saints,

There are 3 Baptisms...........and all 3 serve entirely different functions as pertaining to the Sanctification process as we prepare our Temples to be LIVED THROUGH by JESUS CHRIST here, while we Worship there, in our Heavenly Places in CHRIST.

1. Baptism in water- Immersion.........This is to wash away the remnants of the OLD IDENTIFICATION WITH ADAMS LINEAGE. EXTERNAL TEMPLE
OR the outer court as in the TEMPLE OF SOLOMAN.

2. Baptism in the HOLY SPIRIT- THIS IS FOR THE LEADING AND GUIDING INTO ALL TRUTH............AND DOES NOT NECESSARILY HAPPEN AT SALVATION ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES IT DOES..... This is the HOLY PLACE or your soul, as in the TEMPLE OF SOLOMAN.

3. This is the Baptism with FIRE- This occurs in your spirit and does not normally happen at the infilling as #2 says. This is the HOLY OF HOLIES, as in the TEMPLE OF SOLOMAN.

I was just talking with a fellow minister yesterday about this teaching, and this is a confirmation from the LORD to do a teaching on this topic, so keep a look out for it........

Baptism of the Holy Spirit-

(Act 2:1-5) And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

So-- this happened at Pentecost
-- it was to a group- the church at Jerusalem - all with one accord in one place

This isn't salvation.. the disciples who were part of this church were saved before this

water baptism... no bearing on salvation also.. John the Baptist baptised with this method of full-immersion baptism. Symbolised the death and resurrection of Jesus. A picture of what had already been done for a saved person. Babies were never baptised this way.. it happened after salvation.

born of water and the spirit-

this is not a baptism verse.. have a look at the context:

(John 3:3-6)
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Born of the flesh = born of the water of mother's womb.. which is what being born of water is in this passage.

Born of the Spirit = entrusting your salvation with Jesus. They are the same thing.

I have also heard from bible scholars that being baptised WITH the Holy Spirit is a better translation

The reason being.. that Jesus' church started with His disciples.. not at Pentecost.. the Holy Spirit was never the agent to create Jesus' church. So at Pentecost.. the baptism with the Holy Spirit isn't the begiinning of the NT church

so water baptism.. isn't in some of the verses with baptism in them.. and water baptism never saved or saves anyone now. Baptism with the Holy Spirit isn't about salvation either.. at Pentecost these were already saved people.. as a group.

Things you don see in the bible--

Baptism of the Holy Spirit applied specifically to an individual only
Water baptism giving eternal life
Being born of water and the spirit being a reference to water baptism
Babies being baptised
Baptism before salvation

if you just take a look and read Ephesians ;4 v4 --->> it say--one Lord, one faith, one baptism; now if we all take a good look what apostles paul said?

there only ( 1 ) > lord and that is jesus christ, and ( 1 ) --> faith, and ( 1 ) baptisam he did not say --->( 3 ) baptisam nor( 5 ) baptisam.
the scripture say ---> ( 1 ) baptisam... not 3 4 5 6 7 8 9........( 1 ) <----baptisam. we have to go back to the Bible and back up the scripture,

Jesus said----> in MARK 16;V 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
NOW THE QUESTION..---> WHERE DID jESUS SAID BAPTIZED DO NOT SAVED?

JESUS SAID WHO EVER BELIEVE AND IS ---- ( BAPTIZED ) WILL BE SAVED? WHERE DID IT SAY IN THE BIBLE THAT BAPTIZED DO NOT SAVED?

IF YOU GO BACK IN --> LUKE ;( 24) V ( 46 ) ( 47 ) --> He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day ( 47 ) -->and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem <<<--- THAT IS WHERE THE NEW TESTAMENT STARTED THAT IS WHERE PETER OPEN THE GATE OR DOOR TO PREACH SALVATION TO THOSE WHO EVER WANT IT. THE SCRIPTURE DO NOT LIE! THEY WENT TO THE CHURCH IN JERUSALEM TO PREACH
TO ALL NATION. THE SCRIPTURE IS THERE IF YOU JUST TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT.

water Baptism was as the fleshly circumcision, it was for a sign, the Jews sought signs, Jesus done His First miracle by changing water in the wine, thus Wine represented the Blood Of Jesus at the last supper. so we changed something that was water into the blood, now that the blood is available. peter and the other disciples had a meeting about circumcision , and came from the meeting with all in an agreement that it was the heart circumcision that was important instead the fleshly cicumcision, we must also come to the conclusion that it is the Spirit Baptism over the water baptism that is important, one Lord, one faith , one baptism, there was many lord's in the Bible, Sarah even called Abraham lord, there were people in the Old testament, with titles as lords. there is many kinds of faith or many things we can put our faith in, we have faith in God,one baptism, there is proof in the bible of different kinds of Baptisms, there is many different Jesus came onto the scene preaching that John the baptist merely baptised with water But he would one day replace that baptism with a spirit and fire baptism, John had already preached that there was coming one who would baptism, with Spirit and fire. then paul preached the same as the other two had done with two or more witnesses, standing in agreement that water baptism was good, in it times but now that the blood was available through the Death Of our perfecty lamb. so thus we have one Lord , with one faith , and we have one baptism , so it is that we must have, not two of either one,

Ac 19:1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,Ac 19:2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.Ac 19:3And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.Ac 19:4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.Ac 19:5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.Ac 19:6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.Ac 19:7And all the men were about twelve.
