Wow, let me first say that I was hurt by the manner in which I was addressed here. Hurt as if personally attacked for my questions, my opinions, and my views. Not by Trust_In_The_Name, let me clarify that giving me scriptures has only helped me in my search for truth. No hurtfull words were spoken from you just the scriptures that make you believe what you believe - and thanks for sharing that with me. But to Credo_Ut_Intelligam, it makes me sad that my brother in Christ would talk to me in such a way that you were more concerned with being right than you were with sharing your truth. Scripture says they will know God by our love for one another, and I didn not feel an ounce of love in your manipulating of my words and my hunger for dialoging what this Love Wins book is all about. I am not nieve to the scriptures, and I too believed all that most of those on this blog have been passionately trying to say - that hell is the eternal fate of those who do not believe in Jesus in this lifetime. However, I am also not nieve to the truths that over and over again in history man has been so SURE that he was right about the scriptures that this world even crucified God himself in their need to be right. There are now so many facits of Christianity because we are divided against one another over matters of interpratation of the scriptures. When something worthy of debate comes forth, I hunger and thirst for what is true all the more, and I love a good chance to talk with those who also love Jesus and believe, so that to search out that truth and to be careful that we have not taken the scriptures and built it into something that it's not. A good debate, a good carefull look again and again at what we believe is healthy and good for our Spirits to strengthen us and to assure us why we believe what we believe. Reading Rob Bells book Love Wins, didn't have me carelessly believing his words as truth and running with them...but what it did do was have me reading my bible more in this past week than I had all of last month - and becuase you don't know me...I read my bible regularly even last month. And that is a great thing!
So an attempt again to dialog this book...I just this morning finished Romans in it's entirety and the funny thing is the very verses that are so often preached about being saved are in chapter 10 of Romans, and never never once in Romans anywhere is he talking in context to being saved from hell. Yet we preach it like that's what we are saved from. That's what I meant by "what's the point" of the good news. I am in no way making it whatever I want it to be. I read Romans because I was wanting to know what exactly was this "great news" that they were risking their lives to preach...I was wondering after reading Rob Bell's book if they were trying to preach being saved from hell. Then I went on to read the next book...Corinthians, and there Paul talks about divisions in the church. Hmmm, that's relivant here. Anyway on to more reading and for anyone who might actually want to talk about what they got from this Love Wins book vs. what they are sorting or have sorted out about the scriptures I'm totally interested.
For the fear stuff to trust_in_the_name...I hear you and it is definetly true that there is a healthy fear of God, thanks for the scriptures to remind me of that. But notice that only one comes from the new testimate, and in that book Jude...read that agian too, and very interesting in light of the dialog here.
Good stuff! God is so good and I find myself thankful for His patience over me as I seek His face and His truth as I trust Him and let Him love me more each day.
