Ironically CHRIST-MASS, CHRIST-MASS, CHRIST-MASS
;)

People tend to forget the origin of that word is all, so I wonder if it is actually accurate to even suggest one celebrates Christmas if they don't attend Christ's mass? Not being a pain, just making an observation...
:D
I forgot nothing.......the person who started this thread asked Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas......I answered, and shared a story. :)

Actually, Santa let me down once when he gave me a really cheap football uniform, including a helmet that didn’t even have a face guard.
ahah.... of course, football is the reason for the season. In Australia it's cricket season..

What did the Puritans who settled this country say?

"For preventing disorders, arising in several places within this jurisdiction by reason of some still observing such festivals as were superstitiously kept in other communities, to the great dishonor of God and offense of others: it is therefore ordered by this court and the authority thereof that whosoever shall be found observing any such day as Christmas or the like, either by forbearing of labor, feasting, or any other way, upon any such account as aforesaid, every such person so offending shall pay for every such offence five shilling as a fine to the county."

Comments on
Christmas
by Charles H. Spurgeon
"We have no superstitious regard for times and seasons. Certainly we do not believe in the present ecclesiastical arrangement called Christmas. First because we do not believe in any mass at all, but abhor it, whether it be sung in Latin or in English: Secondly, because we find no scriptural warrant whatever for observing any day as the birthday of the Savior; and consequently, its observance is a superstition, because not of divine authority. Superstition has fixed most positively the day of our Savior's birth, although there in no possibility of discovering when it occurred. It was not till the middle of the third century that any part of the Church celebrated the birth of our Lord; and it was not till long after the western Church had set the example, that the eastern adopted it. Because the day in not known. Probably the fact is that the "holy" days were arranged to fit in with the heathen festivals. We venture to assert that if there be any day in the year of which we may be pretty sure that it was not the day on which our Savior was born it is the 25th of December. Regarding not the day, let us give God thanks for the gift of His dear Son.

How absurd to think we could do it in the spirit of the world, with a Jack Frost clown, a deceptive worldly Santa Claus, and a mixed program of sacred truth with fun, deception and fiction. If it be possible to honor Christ in the giving of gifts, I cannot see how while the gift, giver, and recipient are all in the spirit of the world. The Catholics and high Church Episcopalians may have their Christmas one day in 365 but we have a Christ gift the entire year". C. H. Spurgeon Dec. 24, 1871

"Upright men strove to stem the tide, but in spite of all their efforts, the apostasy went on. till the Church, with the exception of a small remnant was submerged under pagan superstition. That Christmas is a pagan festival is beyond all doubt. The time of the year, and the ceremonies with which it in celebrated, prove its origin".

"Those who follow the custom of observing Christmas, follow not the Bible, but pagan ceremonies".

And that mass would be at the Holy Catholic church right Suaso ;) lol. For me my religion is here in my home & I have daily fellowship with the Lord. We will celebrate the birth of Christ although its not the day & still call it Christmas even though we dont attend the Holy Catholic Church. I also partake in communion at home & that is something the Catholics think to be reserved for them alone. Best communion of my life... Just me, my Bible & the Lord present. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

That's because we view communion differently. Part of the aspect of communion is...community. With the Lord, with each other, with the whole Church. That's why we call it communion too. It would be illogical to give communion to those who are not in communion with you. This is why the Orthodox do not give their communion to non-Orthodox Christians (including Catholics). To partake in Catholic communion is to say one agrees with everything the Catholic Church believes - to truly be in communion with them. For me to partake in Eastern Orthodox communion would be to say that I agree with all of the Easter Orthodox Church's teaching, which I don't. To go to my local Presbyterian Church and partake of their communion is to say I agree with their theology, which I do not. I am not in communion with them, so I do not take their communion.

You can celebrate the Nativity of the Lord outside of mass. I'm just saying, it's called Christmas because in the English-speaking world, the holy day was known by the way it was popularly celebrated by English-Speaking Christians: a mass in memorial of Christ's birth. I just chuckle when people seem upset that Christ is taken out of Christmas, but don't seem to notice that mass has been taken out too (though I suspect many don't realize mass what part of Christmas to begin with).

Hopefully, we celebrate Christ's birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension daily, but it's nice to have a special day set aside to let the whole world know of the joy that our Savior was born for our salvation.

I'm not sure that you or I would fare well under the rules of the Puritans.

The x is part of history where they were out lawing Christ in Christmas. Say Merry Christmas and trust God to give you a much better job. If we act ashamed of God then he will be ashamed of us. At what point do we say enough is enough. And we stand with God and say no more. I am a Christian. I stand with God. I trust God to protect me. Christians have let people push God out of everything. We haven't been fighting back and now it's all just getting worse. We can't blame the unbelievers. God forgive us and help us to fight back.

While I see no reason, other than brevity to use X-mas today, at one time it was considered honorable because it was the first initial of the Greek word for Christ and they believed that if you used the name Christ too much, you were using it in vain. Today-not so much.

if my boss told me I had to say Happy Holidays, I'd say Chag Sameach. Roughly translated, that basically is saying happy holidays. More importantly, though, it'd give me a chance to practice pronouncing my CHs. stupid CHs.
