Mormons believe God (Elohim) may have sinned during his exaltation.

In their theology, God was a man, just like they are a man, and he was exalted to godhood through progression.

I was viewing an interesting video today concerning this. Several young Mormons were asked whether they believe God may have sinned during his period of humanity.

Many of them replied yes, he could have.

Here's the video if anyone is interested:

Ironically, if they are consistent with their theology, God the Father could have sinned, but Jesus did not. Therefore, Jesus qualified to redeem them.

It would be helpful to provide an exact quote from their writings. Here is what they say: 'God the Father is the Supreme Being in whom we believe and whom we worship. He is the ultimate Creator, Ruler, and Preserver of all things. He is perfect, has all power, and knows all things. He “has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's...'

It would be nice if all cultic organizations fully revealed their theology and its implications but they don’t.

In their case, they teach that humans have a Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother that begat them in the spiritual realm. These humans are incarnated at their birth. Their memory is wiped out prior to incarnation so they don’t remember the details of their preincarnate existence.

Their lifetime is about being obedient to the law and qualifying to become a god themselves through this obedience. Their bodies are glorified at the end of their lives and they themselves can then become breeder gods.

Elohim, the god of this world, was once a human like them. So, this is where the question originates. If Elohim was once a man like them, did he sin like they do?

As you can see on the video, many of them believe that he did sin, just like them. The apologist is simply drawing out the absurdity of their system through his questioning.

In their system, there is an infinite number of god beings, as Elohim himself had a Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother.

I had an interesting convo with a Mormon on this topic. We were flying on a plane send the stewardess blocked the aisle with her cart so he sat next to me. Somehow his religious affiliation came up so I engaged him in a friendly discussion. He wasn’t very evasive in his answers so I was able to learn quite a bit.

He said they usually don’t talk about Heavenly Mother because the Bible doesn’t mention her.
