I do not know if it is pagan, but it is irrelevant :

Ecclesiastes
1:

9.) The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Boxing Day is secular.
Boxing Day is so called because it was in times past the day that Church offering boxes were opened and the poor of the parish were given money. It is also St Stephens day as mentioned in Good King Wenceslas.

our charge always has a new year celebration. .it's essentially just like any other worship service. what better way to bring in the New Year then to be in the house of God?

I always thought New Year's Day was in the Bible, because the JW's celebrate it. I guess they just left that pagan holiday in so the parents could have a fun night, while their kids stayed home and didn't play with the Christmas toys they didn't get.

Oh wait! Their bible is different, so it might be in the NWT!

Hmmm, how about Pastor's day? Pagan, secular, wordly or carnal? Don't get me wrong, I loved my pastors... Just the thought of starting a day for yourself and getting everyone else to celebrate it is humurous. Now if it was people's decision, not the Pastor's fault, hmmm, but then again that's like an inch away from idolatry.
