Exodus 33:20> And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

John 1:18> No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him.

John 5:37> And the Father Himself, which hath sent Me, had born witness of Me, ye have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His shape.

1 John 4:12> No man hath seen God at any time, if we love one another, God dwells in us, and His love His perfect in us

When Jesus was seen by over 500 witnesses,
after He was resurrected,
Did the witnesses see Him,
and see His face?

Hi Devo

I think Ex ch 33 is a good one for an understanding of this subject

God said to Moses
I will send an angel before you and drive out the Cannanites, Amorites, Hittites, Jebusites, Perizzites and Hittites.
Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff necked people and I might destroy you on the way
When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no-one put on any ornaments
For the Lord had said to Moses, Tell the Israelites you are a stiff necked people . If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you.
Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.
So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mt Horeb

verses
2-6

The Isaraelites believed God Himself would not go with them to the promised land
Moses also believed God would not go with them as shown in verse 12

Moses said to the Lord

'You have been telling me. Lead these people, but you have not let me know whom you will send with me
You have said I know you by name and you have found favour with me. If you are pleased with me teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favour with you. Remember that this nation is your people

The Lord replied
My prescence will go with you, and I will give you rest

Then Moses said
'If your prescence does not go with us do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us.

verses 12-16

And the Lord said to Moses
I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name
verse 17

So Moses accepted that God would not go with them, otherwise he would not have asked who would accompany them

God tells Moses

His prescence will go with them

Moses asks God to confirm his prescence would go with them. At no time did Moses plead with God to change his mind and go with them himself

So God told Moses that an angel would go before them to drive out their enemies, and his prescence would go with them

In all their distress, He too was distressed, and the angel of his prescence saved them
Isiaih 63:9

We know that the one refered to as
'The angel of His prescence' is Christ, he accompanied the Israelites on their journey(1 Cor 10:4)

Christ who has the prescence of the Father in him(Immanuel God with us)

So, if God did not Himself go with the Israelites to the promised land, but Christ did. How can Christ be God Himself?

Hi LBG,
Yes exactly. Unfortunately, many think followers like us deny Christ's divinity for saying He is not the Father but the Son?
And your totally logical thread here reflects mine in meaning. If nobody has seen God at any time, but over 500 witnesses SAW Jesus AFTER His resurrection, then Jesus can not be the Father but is exactly who scripture says He is...the Son. For men saw Him.
And if God did not accompany Moses, but Christ did.....well how much plainer are these two declarations?
Good reply by the way LBG....

God grants Moses request and goes with them you can see this as an example of how MOSES and Abraham are able to talk to God and God grants their prayers.

it shows you the power of prayer and the fact God can place such desires in their hearts to have them spoken.

example Sodom and Gomorrah, Golden Calf story (God knows what will happen and grants the requests of his Messengers out of LOVE, He heeds their requests)

in the above chapter GOD decides to accompany them to the promise land because the people REPENTED and OBEYED His commandments. Just as He decided not to destroy Niveneh after Jonah told them to repent and they DID!

Jesus is LORD, the LORD is GOD. His Presence is the Holy Spirit. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit make up the Godhead. Three are ONE in HEAVEN and AGREE as ONE on Earth. The Son is referred to as the WORD.

You have been given scriptures but your hearts are harden and puffed up. It is a multiple choice question.

What do you believe?

A. Jesus the Father and the Holy Spirit are ONE GOD and you should worship GOD with your whole heart, mind and spirit

B. Jesus and the Father are not ONE God each is a different "god" and you can worship both and practice polytheism (Arianism)

C. Jesus and the Father are not ONE God therefore you should not worship Jesus but the Heavenly Father ONLY (Islam believes this)

so which do you choose?

Exodus 33

11 So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.
15 Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”
17 So the LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”
18 And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”
19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” 21 And the LORD said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”

Isaiah 6
2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:

“ Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 So I said:

“ Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The LORD of hosts.”

9 And He said, “Go, and tell this people:

‘ Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
10 “ Make the heart of this people dull,
And their ears heavy,
And shut their eyes;
Lest they see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart,
And return and be healed.”

Why do the seraphim have two wings covering their face? think again about what the words SEEING, FACE TO FACE and how you can see the spirit and the true nature of a person? How Jesus is able to see the hearts and hear the thoughts of those around Him?

People saw Jesus material human earthly body but did any of them see into His soul? Into His divine nature? Into His Godhood? None may know of the Father EXCEPT those Jesus allows them to SEE and KNOW. what does it mean to be "born of God" and to be baptized with the Holy Spirit?

John 1
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

So what you are saying is that,God is not telling us the truth when he says; NO ONE CAN SEE ME AND LIVE: YOU SAY, MANY HAVE SEEN GOD,AND TOUCH GOD AND ATE WITH GOD. HERE WE GO CONTRADICTING SCRIPTURES AGAIN AND AGAIN. Who is telling the truth here, is ananda and all her knowledge telling the truth, or is God? SHOULD WE BELIEVE THE SCRIPTURES OR SHOULD WE BELIEVE YOU.Are you being stubborn against the scriptures, making God look like he is telling lies.
Can you live with that conscience, can you sleep peacefully at night?
You love your doctrine that has been handed over to you so much, that you are willing to even contradict the word of God.

you lie. May the Lord rebuke you. I do not contradict anything, explain away these scriptures, but you most likely will ignore or twist them as well to fit your perverted theology.

Exodus 33

you do not understand what is meant by the GLORY of God and the WORD made flesh. Your heart is harden and you are a "stiff necked child" as you like to refer to others. for you do not listen to God's words but twist them to fit YOUR perceptions.

Doctrine DOCTRINE DOCTRINE.

funny I know of 5 different preachers and they all teach the Bible slightly different on some key points. I am not indoctrinated you can ask any of them. they've tried and I do not accept things blindly without asking first my Heavenly Father for guidance.

Hi Anandya

In Ex ch 33 God does not tell Moses He has changed his mind concerning going with the Israelites, neither did Moses plead with God to go with them Himself. He simply asked God whom He would send with them

God confirmed His prescence would go with them, previously in verse 2 he had said an angel would go before them to drive out the people from the land they were to possess.

Isiaih tells us that the angel of God's prescence accompanied the Israelites. So God Himself did not go, but His prescence did.

But can I ask you? Who do you think is speaking here in ch 34?

And the Lord descended in the cloud; and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.
And the Lord passed by before he and proclaimed
The Lord, the Lord God, meerciful and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth
Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the childrens children unto the third and to the fourth generation
Ex ch 34:5-7

How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us.

verses 12-16

verse 17

So Moses accepted that God would not go with them, otherwise he would not have asked who would accompany them

Moses asks God to confirm his prescence would go with them. At no time did Moses plead with God to change his mind and go with them himself

In all their distress, He too was distressed, and the angel of his prescence saved them

We know that the one refered to as

Christ who has the prescence of the Father in him(Immanuel God with us)

So, if God did not Himself go with the Israelites to the promised land, but Christ did. How can Christ be God Himself?
Some corrections here LBG if you dont mind; The angel that God sends before moses is not Jesus, but michael one of the chief angels.Daniel12:1 And at that time shall MICHAEL stand up,the great prince WHICH STANDETH FOR THE CHILDREN OF THY PEOPLE:----

Michael has always been the angel for israel.
Take care.

Wakeup,

If you were here as one of the disciples when our Lord Jesus Christ walked the earth, and you asked
Him to show you the Father, what would you think when He turned to you and said, 'Look at me, I have been with you all this time and you have not known me ... if you have seen me you have seen the Father so why do you ask me to show to show you the Father ... do you not believe?' (Jn 14:7-9)

He told Philip this very thing and was not referring to Himself as a reproduction, or a facsimile, or a reflection or clone of the Father but the exact image of His person and likeness in the flesh, God manifest and revealed as he is in the flesh.

Jn 14:7-9 If ye had known me , ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Exodus 34
5 Now the LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6 And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, 7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.
8 So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped. 9 Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we are a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.

that just highlights how Moses asks for mercy and GRACE for the people of Israel because God wanted to DESTROY them and raise Moses up descendants from the stones when they built the golden calf. I believe the LORD (or YHWH) referred to is Jesus and I believe Jesus is GOD. for YHWH is the PERSONAL name of GOD given to Moses at the burning bush.

have you forgotten Exodus 32, notice it says "the LORD his GOD"

9 And the LORD said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people! 10 Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.”
11 Then Moses pleaded with the LORD his God, and said: “LORD, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 12 Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He brought them out to harm them, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and relent from this harm to Your people. 13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’”[a] 14 So the LORD relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people.

Moses spoke to the Lord as face to face as one with a friend. Jesus told us that He would send the Holy Spirit as our Comforter and Teacher, have you had a heart to heart talk with Him recently?

May God's grace be upon all His people that their eyes might be open and that those who seek and ask for the Holy Spirit to enter and work in their lives who have a truly repentant and humble heart, May they find His love and may it dwell in their heart and grant them peace, understanding and wisdom to read and see His Holy words and how they might live holy lives in Christ Jesus. Have a blessed night. :)

I'll talk to you later LBG :) Gotta go to bed.

ironic i used that same imagery to explain how Jesus can be GOD incarnate. God is much vaster than we as humans can understand so to simplify things for us we only see or only hear a small simplified description of GOD through WORDS which are SYMBOLS of what we mean. Jesus is the WORD made flesh.

do you understand what WORDs are? Do you understand how the world was SPOKEN into existence? Do you know that all matter vibrates and sings praises to GOD? Have you heard the songs of angels?

reading scriptures is never a waste of time and I feel sad that your heart is so harden and your eyes are so darken that you do not see even that basic truth.

I will place it before my Father in prayer. nit.

8 So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped. 9 Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we are a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”

that just highlights how Moses asks for mercy and GRACE for the people of Israel because God wanted to DESTROY them and raise Moses up descendants from the stones when they built the golden calf. I believe the LORD (or YHWH) referred to is Jesus and I believe Jesus is GOD. for YHWH is the PERSONAL name of GOD given to Moses at the burning bush.

I am heartened that you believe the Lord refered to was Christ in Ex ch 34,

You need to remember that God's name is in Christ Ex 23:20-23, Heb 1:8&9

have you forgotten Exodus 32, notice it says "the LORD his GOD"

The Lord said to my Lord
Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet
Psalm 110:1

Is there only one Lord Anandya?

Did God say to himself

I must sit at my own right hand unrtil I have made all my enemies a footstool for my feet?

Moses spoke to the Lord as face to face as one with a friend. Jesus told us that He would send the Holy Spirit as our Comforter and Teacher, have you had a heart to heart talk with Him recently?

Anandya
Could I respectfully ask you to reflect on your above above statement and consider how those words may come accross?

But to answer your question. I try and put aside an hour a day for prayer time, as I believe that should be the minimum time all Christians shlould aim to spend in prayer each day, time permitting
Do I talk to the Holy Spirit?
I pray in the spirit daily? Is that what yoiu meant?

May God's grace be upon all His people that their eyes might be open and that those who seek and ask for the Holy Spirit to enter and work in their lives who have a truly repentant and humble heart,

Agreed
May they find His love and may it dwell in their heart and grant them peace, understanding and wisdom to read and see His Holy words and how they might live holy lives in Christ Jesus. Have a blessed night. :)

I'll talk to you later LBG :) Gotta go to bed.
I agree with the above
Goodnight

Yes, I will not be looking at God personally, but i will be looking at his image
If Jesus was God in person they would all have died.
those 500+ men that saw Jesus would also have been scorched to ashes.

The fact here is that God will never contradict his own word, never.
And if it looks contradictory, that only means that our intrepretation is not correct and we must .be willing to correct it And not just stubbornly carry on, for doctrine sake.
God first, the truth first; everything else later. We must go for the truth, and not for who has the last word. It is much too importand. Thank you.

You just keep beating around the bush and you do not want to submit to what Christ was saying, IF YOU HAVE SEEN ME YOU HAVE SEEN THE FATHER. You can not add or take away from that nor can you privately interpret that to mean anything else then what Jesus is saying. This little phrase must really upset you understanding when Jesus said, 'Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?, He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Jesus Christ made Himself equal with the Father and you, for some strange reason, do not believe that nor accept that as the truth. If Jesus Christ is not equal to the Father, then He is not God and is not God our Savior and we are still in our sins.

hmmm And God was made flesh? I have never come across this scripture?

I go by what john 1:14. says: And the WORD was made flesh.
