When it comes to religion, what is an open mind, and is an open mind a good thing?

For example, is it good to ask the Lord questions and then listen for the answers?

Elijah, good afternoon from the snowbound Rockies. If you are listening for an answer from God, that really isn't an open mind in the sense that you are undecisive right? Keep the Faith!

well.. if you have an open mind toward 'religion'... this could mean anything.. like accepting any beliefs that are out there as true. But if you have an open mind as in - are prepared to ask questions and look behind things.. then you might be interested to know that doing this allows someone to elimate all beliefs except Christianity as the one true way to God.

How?

Well.. when you study history... Jesus is considered a real person by most historians. Now.. the same evidence that makes Him real, is equally strong that He died and rose again from teh grave!

Example-

People claim Jesus did not die on the cross, but merely swooned.

Well..

So, somehow he is supposed to awaken in the tomb, covered in tight cloth that would normally suffocate someone who was not yet dead to the point of death..

then

with all teh wounds he has-- being half dead.. he somehow is able to roll away the stone from the tomb?

then

somehow get past the guards, and convince the disciples, in the half-dead state he is in, that he is risen again from the dead?

This is as unlikely a theory as you are ever going to get!

But that point to this.. is you can study out Christianity like this.. ask questions.. and it stands up and says.. THIS IS TRUTH!

So an open mind toward Christianity allows it to shine. An open mind toward all religions? Leads to nothing much except maybe Hindu or New Age style beliefs.

James 1:5 - "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

I say, Definitely =) How else will you know God's will for you? God knows that we really do not know or understand that much and understands that we will inevitably have questions. He may not always answer you immediately or in the way that you think He should, but I dont think that He would have a problem w/ you asking Him questions, thats how you learn. Obviously, you need to always be sure that the answer is really from God. Whenever I go to God w/ a question or am seeking guidance, I always try to make sure that I have no will of my own and am not expecting to recieve a particular answer.

Unless you become like that of a child you cannot enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

I like to look at my mind not as open or closed, but more as a nice screen door: It's "open" but things are definitely not allowed in.

I guess this is healthy. You can listen to a viewpoint that differs from your own - and maybe even directly opposes your own - and better understand how and/or why the other person/people think as they do. You don't have to agree with them and say "Well, I see what you mean, and I guess your opinion is as good as mine," you can instead say "Well, I understand why you think as you do now, but I still don't subscribe to your thoughts." Having a closed mind prevents this, as the attitude is "I believe what I believe and I know whatever you say is a load of crock and I don't wanna hear it," which allows for no understanding at all, and ultimately, no way to bring others to our own understanding is possible since we have essentially shut them off.

We mustn’t be gullible. We should compare each new idea with what we have read in the Bible and what we have learned in our walk with the Lord, right?

I think today people are becoming a little too open minded and accepting of non biblical things and behaviours. As each generation goes the general population falls farther and farther away from God and closer and closer to accepting alternate "spiritual" beliefs. was on rebecca James (she's a christian musician & note: had nothing to do with the post... just so you dont think this is in any way her belief... ITS NOT) anyway I was on her facebook page where one of the comments under her status (by a fan named Cody) was posted a link to a video that Bono U2 had stated that God is good, Jesus is Good, Jehovah is good, Mohammed is good... all sons of abraham. There were only 3 of us on there out of 72 posts who thought that this was NOT a good statement. Everyone is sooo accepting and tippy toeing around the beliefs of others so as not to offend. sometimes its good to offend, in a non offensive way of course lol! When my neighbour said she had angel cards and her angel cards give her comfort. I responded by saying that for sure there are real angels but my comfort lies in the saving grace of Jesus christ alone, for he has charge over the angels. She asked me if i'd like to see her cards & I told her no, I'd rather not, cause its contrary to my belief in Christ to think that something printed on a card has any impact on anything. I told her I rely on the words of God for the greatest comfort. (bought her a Bible the next day, but kept getting delayed bringing it to her... about a week later I ran down the hill to bring it to her and found her at home alone crying unconsolable. Gods timing was perfect!! I continue in prayer for her salvation...as she is definitely seeking.

Yes, we must compare all new ideas with what we’ve learned in the Bible and what we’ve learned during our walk with the Lord.

Is everybody walking with the Lord?

An open mind, yes, but one must at some point come to the consensus of the truth. Didn't Jesus' disciples ask Christ questions, all the time, and he answered them? Ask questions, but find the answer in the Bible.

For the comment that Jesus only swooned on the Cross. He said it is finished. I guess that settles it.

An open mind is good as in to read and belive the amazing things that happend in the bible - such as the creation of the earth wich many non-belivers are not able to comprehend or belive, thier mind is not open.

Open mind as in belive that Jesus had a child with marry magdiline and belive all the rubbbish that Satan puts on the this Earth - NO - life is just a lot of many test, and Satan sets them, God helps you pass them
