Thank you for that, this is what I read....
Solomon most evidently makes an essential difference between the human soul and that of brutes. Both have souls, but of different natures, the soul of man was made for God, and to God it shall return. God is its portion, and when a holy soul leaves the body, it goes to paradise. The soul of the beast was made to derive its happiness from this lower world. Brutes shall have a resurrection, and have an endless enjoyment in a new earth. The body of man shall arise, and join his soul that is already above; and both enjoy final blessedness in the fruition of God. That Solomon did not believe they had the same kind of spirit, and the same final lot, as some materialists and infidels say, is evident from 12:7: "The spirit shall return unto God who gave it."

Amen!
There you go then, be more happier with that then

Had a 16 year old Scotty die on Christmas morning right after our little girl opened her presents.
Our other dog (15yr old) now has congestive heart failure and should have passed 4 mos ago...still hanging in there.

I have no concrete answer to the question, only this passage which may shed some hope....

For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
(Rom 8:20-23)

We had to have our dog put down due to being old and illness...do all dogs go to heaven? We were in the room with him when he was put to sleep and it was so sad and was just wondering if God created dogs to be man's best friend, do they go to heaven, too?
Thanks, just wondering where he went and a little sad.
I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet dog's passing. Having also been through it a few times with old, dearly loved pets, I feel your pain (((Hugs))).

We recently lost a relatively young cat (nearly 4 years old), struck by a car. Thankfully, he did not suffer and died from a glancing blow to the side of the head, so we were able to spend some time petting him and come to terms with the reality that our sweet kitty was no longer with us. We wrote notes and drew pictures to put in his box, and it was a beautiful, warm, sunny day when we laid him to rest. One of the children made a delicate wreath of fine vines and tiny purple flowers and a daffodil which we laid on his sweet head. We talked of special times with him as he lay in the warm sun one last time. He rests under a heart-shaped rock topped with daffodils next to two other beloved kitties (who died of old age).

It's the first time I've lost a pet so suddenly, and it's been a hard loss. He was a unique and special cat, well loved by our seven children, and we're all grieving his loss daily. I served as 'midwife' at his birth and the birth of his 5 litter-mates (we still have them and the mama cat, but he was the character with an extra dose of sweet in the bunch), and I was the one who gently laid him in the place where he rests now.

Do I believe we will see him again in eternity?

Yes I do.

I don't believe that God, Who places such value on life, just ends innocent life. Animals (yes, bugs, too) were affected by the Fall, but bear no fault for it. The more I learn of God's character, the personalities that He's put not only in pets, but in wild animals too (who hasn't seen on YouTube deer and dogs playing, the relationships that elephants and other animals have with each other - one of the fish in our aquarium and one of our cats play 'cat and mouse' on a regular basis, etc.), and the undeniable bond that He's allowed to exist between people and animals who come under their care - it just doesn't make sense that He would just erase them from His creation and from our minds and hearts.

God is all about redemption, restoration, and LIFE.

The Ecclesiastes passage? It comes under the category of 'wisdom and poetic literature' in the Bible. Like those in the Psalms and Proverbs, the writer asks questions, ponders, and makes observations about mankind, the world we live in, and God Almighty. Does Psalm 10 tell us that God stands far away and hides in times of trouble? No - the psalmist is asking the question.

Other declarative Scriptures reveal to us the character of God - Truths in which we can rest when the questions come.

I don't know the details of how eternity will be, but I do trust God and His love for me, His creation, and His love for life. And based on Who He is, I trust that our loved ones who are in Christ, as well as our pets who have passed on, are safe in His Hand and that we will be with them again.

Grace, peace, and comfort to you in Christ,
-JGIG

noah was told to build the ark, yet there was room ,made in the ark, for animals.
it is strange to think , if god wanted animals in the ark, why would he not want them in heaven.

the lion and the lamb, lay down next to each other, and go to sleep.

Animals have no concept of God, surely?, so surely animals can't sin, so animals can't come under God's laws or judgements?

That sounds like the "logical" answer. But, since God is the Creator would think differently. Dogs can be service dogs, therapy dogs and used to help "us" and would think He would use His judgements and come under God's laws. Sometimes dogs help people more than people help others.

everything that lives in the temporal world must die
and return to the dust -
we are actually walking on past life, if you will.

not an unhappy thought for me, because the
cycle-of-life is just purely amazing -

from an acorn to an oak tree, then on to numerous
generations,

what a blessing to be a part of God's Holy creation -
every creature inter-twined in the eco-system,
nourishing our planet.

I wonder since heaven will be filled with praises to God and the redeemed of will praise and glorify God there does not seem to be much space allocated to pets. I do comfort myself with the new earth being a place for our pets and other animals of Gods creation.

Our redeemed glorified bodies will not need food and will not tire so I wonder if the company of animals will contribute in a Spiritual fashion to our eternity. While I am in this body of flesh I do find comfort in the idea that I will be able to walk upon the new earth and glorify God in the wonderful tender things He has taught me through and about the pets I have had in my life.

Above all I am commanded to love the Lord God. If my pets take away from that love then for me it is sin. God is a God of grace and mercy so I trust Him that if there are to be animals in the new earth my many pets will be there.

I would love for my pets now departed to be able to jump on my lap once again but really I long to be held in the arms of my Jesus. I long to look on His face and to hear His voice.

For the cause of Christ

One of the most poignant stories in the Bible is the parable the prophet Nathan told to King David. The prophet told the king of a poor man and his pet lamb. He said, “The poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished, and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him” (2 Samuel 12:3, NKJV). Because we love animals, often the question arises, "will our pets be in heaven?"The Bible is silent on this question. It neither confirms it nor denies it. Yet there are some points we can consider.

God created everything—including animals—for His pleasure and His glory. The Bible says, “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created” (Revelation 4:11, NKJV). Human beings were specifically created for God’s glory. “Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him; yes, I have made him” (Isaiah 43:7, NKJV). But the Bible speaks of even inanimate objects, such as the sun, moon, and stars, praising God (see Psalm 148:3). Of course, we know these objects cannot praise God in the same way we humans can. However, they praise God by shining. By carrying out the role God planned for them, they glorify their Creator.

  • Isaiah 11:6, "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them." (This sounds as if we will have pets in heaven, does it not?)
  • Isaiah 11:7-9, "The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea"
  • Isaiah 65:25, "The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

We must not insist that God order things according to our desires or understanding. Perhaps God may allow our beloved pets to be with us in heaven. Or He may choose to create a new pet for you. We must be willing to allow God to order things as He sees best—and trust that we will be happy with the situation in heaven. God says, “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind” (Isaiah 65:17, NKJV).

Not really.

The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat.
Eat spirit straw in heaven?, spirit dust in heaven?, how would trees grow in heaven? what would their roots hold fast to?, how would trees grow? with spirit rain?

for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea
This says more about the earth which is inside of the physical universe where earth is placed in the planetary aligned solar system rather than God's place of residence which is outside of our physical universe.

Hi MsLimpet, I am sorry for your loss.

If we are approaching this from a Biblical point of view we know that humans have a body, soul and spirit but that animals are only body and soul. We also need Salvation while our pets are doing whatever they do . If we think about it carefully we will discover that animals will not go to heaven but there will be animals present in heaven.

I'm sorry for your loss of your dog, it must be painful. I believe they do and it doesn't matter if I'm wrong, its a non issue. They have flesh that is animated so therefore they have a soul and the soul goes back to God. If someone says that animals are dumb and emotionless, they have obviously not gotten close enough to one to realize that they most certainly are not dumb and emotionless.

I amended your statement, breno.
Thanks :) Some of us need interpretors like yourself.

The Bible doesn't say. It does say all tears and sorrow is gone.

My cat died on my lap. His last act was as defiant as his life -- he peed on me. ;)

That was probably involuntary.

Eternal pets, uh:
I would love to see Jocko,
Angel,
and Missy (still living),
that's the three dogs that takes the largest part of my heart.
