Who else compares to Rome?
None other. However, it appears that this is not obvious to others. A historical study of the church of Rome just solidifies her identity as the woman who rides the beast. When that antichrist is revealed, the office of the pope is going to be empowered by him as the head of that last day one world religious system and she is going to have the power that she has always demanded. Currently she can't enforce her desired authority, but when that antichrist/beast is revealed, she will obtain that power. Anyone who doesn't submit themselves to her during those days, will do so at the cost of their lives.

It is amazing to me how many are deceived by her.

There is much more that points to the RCC. The beast with seven heads and 10 horns seems to point to the European Common Market with 7 founding members and 10 charter members. This looks back to the 'Holy Roman Empire of Charlemagne 800-1806 with its capitol at Aix de la Chapelle, Belgium. This in turn harks back to the Roman Western Empire which continued until 410A.D. This leaves a 390 year gap between the Western Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire; and a 151 year gap betweeen the end of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806 and the founding of the European Common Market in 1957.
Mark, this model has been doing the circuit for decades, I remember Hal Lindsay but the EEC has since grown to 28 member states. It isn't a 10-nation union. Upon the formation of the European Union (EU) in 1993, (See the Maastricht Treaty) the EEC was incorporated and renamed as the European Community (EC). In 2009 (See Treaty of Lisbon) the EC's institutions were absorbed into the EU's wider framework and the community ceased to exist.

None, the beast/ the woman/ and so many other things in Revelation have a spiritual meaning and nothing physical. Daniel puts it as a war between other kingdoms and the kingdom of God- other kingdoms will overcome the kingdom of God but the kingdom of God will reign forever. So it is all about worship and knowledge of God

Oh geez! It is all physical Noose! The woman who rides the beast is said to be a city that sits on seven hills and is physically, not spiritually, destroyed so that no one will ever be able to inhabit her again. There is no reason to apply spiritual interpretations where the literal is meant. All of God's wrath via the seals, trumpets and bowl judgments will all be literal.

No it's not, God laments several times as He calls His people out of Babylon - you and me are in 'Babylon' right now and if my mind is not playing tricks on me, then we are not in Rome or Jerusalem.

"The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 3Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

The "what must soon take place" are the events of wrath via the seals, trumpets and bowl judgments. It is the day of the Lord, the wrath of God. You need to believe the plain meaning of God's word. During this time he will be dealing with Israel and pouring out his wrath upon a Christ rejecting world. There is nothing spiritual about this, buy physical and literal.

You started well by quoting real scripture but then ended up explaining something else. 'What must soon take place' doesn't necessarily mean it must be physical, it must take place soon even in the spiritual. Saying that Revelation/seals deal with the nation Israel is way off, Israel is just a portion of those who reject Christ.

After reading a number of replies on this, and having read many of the same Reformer/Advent vs. RCC replies in the past, I'd like to highlight a few things for thought.

Remove religio-centric views and scripture usually explains itself.

Rev 17

vs. 2 Not all of the kings or inhabitants of the earth have "fornicated" with the RCC.
vs. 5 The RCC is not the Mother (meter) of all the other harlots of the earth- many of which existed long before the RCC. The RCC is just another one of the harlots.
vs. 18 No matter what argument Adventists and Reformers conjure, the RCC does not "reign" in any way over the kings of the earth. The glory days of her power are long past.

The Woman in Rev. 17 is identified as Babylon the Great in verses 5,18- not as Jerusalem or Rome.

Identifying BTG is another topic. One that goes back to the original tower of Babel and its successive incarnations.

No reason other than the Holy Spirit not only brought his word but that he also signified it?

Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and "signified it" by his angel unto his servant John:

Catholicism could be one of the false kingdom of this world represented as a strange woman but it is not the focus .

Rev 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

We can see the strange woman offering our husband Christ all the kingdoms of the world

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Mat 4:8

Kingdom that will become Christs our husband on the last day. When he sorts out the goats from the sheep.

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

It becomes a comparison between two women, represented by cities --as to the residents thereof. One the bride of Christ in respect to the New Jerusalem under the authority of her husband Christ. The other under this worlds system, as fallen mankind. Also called the strange woman .

She is typified as the god of this world

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1Jo 2:15

She is not considered the caste virgin bride the church. who does not formificate with other gods whoring after them of this world as those he gives a bill of divorce.

Jeremiah 3:8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

She is the queen of heaven again typified as the strange woman a whore who did go after the many false gods of this world system . You could say the tale... (a fictitious or true narrative or story) of “two cities.”

Proverbs 2:16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
Proverbs 5:3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
Proverbs 5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
Proverbs 6:24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
Proverbs 7:5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
Proverbs 23:27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.............
( bottomless)

Jerusalem is the Harlot that rides the Beast. The Physical description of her fits that of a Jewish Chief Priest right down to the plate attached to her forehead which the Priest wore. The main difference is that the Priest had Dedicated to the Lord written on his. Apostate Jerusalem is likened to Babylon because of her spiritual adulteries The Jewish authorities before during and after the time of Jesus were in league with Rome and riding the Beast is a fitting description of her. The NT was written primarily to first century Christians who knew exactly what was meant by the visions in Revelation and the rest of the Bible and by what they were experiencing first hand. This is something that seems to have been lost to us or more likely ignored in favor of more sensational explanations, which to them would have been completely incomprehensible.

Matthew 23:37
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee
, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Revelation 17:6
And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

Jerusalem is directly accused here. No mention of Rome.

Revelation 17:18
And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

Romans 7:1
Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

What city is associated with the law? Not Rome, but Jerusalem.

Galatians 4:25-26
[SUP]25 [/SUP]For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

All nations have drunk of the wine of her fornication...

Revelation 18:3
For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

Ephesians 2:2-3
[SUP]2 [/SUP]Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Galatians 3:22-23
[SUP]22 [/SUP]But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
[SUP]23 [/SUP]But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

And then one more time for emphasis;
Revelation 18:23-24
[SUP]23 [/SUP]And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

Do you see how scripture gives clues to other scripture so that we can understand what is being said?

I think it is awesome how some scripture reminds you of other scripture which helps illuminate what is being brought forth.

Nessuno, obviously you don't know how much the RCC has tied into the world's financial markets when you brought up vs 2. God is not concerned with pagan religions to the point of calling them/it a harlot. Vs. 5 is addressing a false Christianity that has spawned many offshoots: ie. the Protestants that carried away with them many of her false teachings. Finally vs. 18, I refer you back to vs. 2; the RCC indeed reigns over kings by reason of its financial reach.

Just you wait and see: when Europe unites into a world power with the Roman Catholics as the unifying theme, you will see how little they love real Christians.
