But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)

"There are people who claim that to seek God's kingdom is to go out into the mission fields and serve the Lord full-time. We know how important missions are and we believe we are blessed to be a blessing. But this is not what the Lord is saying. To understand what He meant, we have to first define what the 'Kingdom of God' is. The book of Romans defines it as such:

The Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17

So what is the kingdom of God? It is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. This means your first priority each day is to seek His righteousness - not your own righteousness."

An excerpt from this book I'm reading, Live the Let-Go Life.

It is FINISHED, my friends! Jesus has paid the price! It is now HIS righteousness. This is good news!!

For me it's to always think about heavenly things and to constantly seek him out and to know him and grow closer to him however we can. I find that no matter what I am doing in some way or form I am seeking him out this is because the eyes of my heart only see him.

I love to hear how people try to find him in every day life. How some are poetic and tend to find themselves closest to him when they write poetry, how some feel so attuned to the spirit when they sing, how some can just delve into the word not just reading it but really going deep into it spending hours at a time devouring the word. There are many ways to seek his kingdom but your hearts has to want to seek it and I mean really seek it not treat this life with him as a hobby or anything.

For me I think the best way is to just talk with him, I love to talk to him about anything and everything, even if i am just using the bathroom or even watching a movie I can't help but talk with him.To seek the kingdom of God is to seek him and I get so giddy when I hear the passion and hunger in people who truly seek his kingdom and I know father feels the same. If there is one thing I know he treasures it's a hungry heart that chases after him Oh ya and merry Christmas everyone:D

It is FINISHED
Some may think me weird but to me those three words are the most precious ever spoken.

The culmination of the pain leading to a new beginning.

John 19:28-30
It Is Finished
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Thank you Jesus.

Thanks, Abigail, for reminding us to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven. Sometimes we get bogged down in debates and completely forget the priorities of God.

I know many Christians who can barely read or write and yet they seek the Kingdom of God all the time, especially through prayer (they do better than me). Let's not forget what Paul said (above): The Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

True enough. But let us not limit the "seeking" to ourselves personally. The Church (all genuine Christians) has been given a mandate and a responsibility, and that is a part of "seeking" the Kingdom of God -- bringing others into the Kingdom through the Gospel. And the mission field is where you are -- your immediate vicinity.

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:7,8).

It starts personally, brother. It starts within us.
But if it also ends with us, we are simply self-centered, not other centered as we ought to be. Take Paul as as example. Within days of his conversion he was preaching Christ. The problem today is that Christians have become too self-centered and need to be reminded that there is a job to be done.

By all means, go do what God has called you to do. This thread is not trying to stop you lol. :)

This is putting God first as in Prov. 3:5-6. Our main priority is God. Seeking God's kingdom and His righteousness is to acknowledge Him and to grow His Kingdom is by winning more souls to Christ.

Prov. 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Prov. 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

God bless

That's the exact point that I would have made; thank you for making this Truth known, because we know by the Word of Christ that His kingdom is not of this world.

Righteousness is only rewarded if the Believers Faith is placed and maintained exclusively in Christ and the Cross, i.e., The Blood of Jesus, i.e., The Finished Work at Calvary Cross (Romans 4:5).

Righteousness is not a reward but a gift received when we accepted Jesus as our personal Savior. Jesus gives us His righteousness and that is how we are seen by God each day., IN Christ. And so we also need to see Christ and not 'us' Seeking first the kingdom of God and HIS righteousness is looking at HIS righteousness and not our own.

The Holy Spirit always always points us to Jesus at all times and tells us to look to Jesus and not to ourselves. To look ye no man after the flesh. We are to see others and ourselves IN Christ. Is it any wonder the world., the flesh and the devil are always pointing us to look at self and other people and circumstances all round us here in the world? When we get our eyes off of Jesus and onto those 3 things., -world-flesh-devil .,we are and will always be at a loss.

But when we seek first the kingdom of God and HIS righteousness., all these things will be added unto us. Righteousness and joy and peace in the Holy Spirit. Rom.14:17 Amen AbigailZ

God only awards imputed righteousness by maintaining faith exclusively
in Christ and his finished work (Romans 4:5). God only recognize the blood of Jesus on the door post of our hearts. That Believer is now under the strongest law in the universe, " The Law Of The Spirit Of Life In Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2)." This law is stronger than "The Law Of Sin And Death (Romans 8:1-2)." So when you do miss the mark and sin, you still have imputed righteousness. Which means: There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Sin has no dominion over you. (The Believer must confess their sins 1 John 1:9)

If we as Believers do not understand these two Laws, then the "law of sin and death" will wreak its havoc on us.

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:1; Hebrews 10:38 ; Hab. 2:4 NLT

Two kinds of peace
1. Justifying Peace - This is Peace with God, a legal standing.
Rom. 8:7; Eph. 2:14-15

2. Sanctifying Peace - This is the Peace of God in the heart.
Rom. 8:6; 14:19; 15:13; Gal. 1:3

The first is the result of a legal standing. The second is the result of the Work of the Holy Spirit. The first is static, never fluctuates, the second changes almost from hour to hour. The first, every Christian has, the second, every Christian may have.

for him to award righteousness it would have to be earned which we can never hope to do, we are given righteousness the second we become his

Amen. However, the OSAS believe you can lose your righteousness.

You probably meant the "non-OSAS" crowd. And anyone who believes that one can "lose" the imputed righteousness of Christ does not really understand the Gospel or Gospel Truth.

I believe that Scripture refers to the Kingdom of God in three different ways depending on context.

1) Jesus reign after His return.
2) God's rule in the hearts of his faithful
3) the Church

Walk trough the valley

It starts personally, brother. It starts within us.
Thanks Abigail,
A week ago felt I failed in my purpose of a silent retreat to seek the Lord and to put away my divided spirit. Had resolved to go home in the morning, 2 days early and cried to the Lord for mercy before going to sleep. I woke up at midnight and the Lord asked me: What is your purpose for being here? I answered: To find my purpose. He responded with the verse you quoted: Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you. Then asked Him if I should continue with the study I was doing: Journey to enter into rest, he replied: Don't forget your purpose. Then asked if I should go home or stay, He said: continue to appear before God. Implying, as you said that it's more important to seek Him than to try and evangelise: 2 years ago, I was called to evangelise, when the lord had told me, it surprised me, the rest did not surprise me but I have yet to live it: Fear not I am with you, and: Pray for the anointing. This relates to what you said, righteousness and peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost. I have the Holy Spirit but understand like you the need to be in prayer and that until I seek Him with the whole heart I will not be useful.
Reinforcing what you said here: "It starts personally, brother. It starts within us."
I compliment you on the wisdom you expressed, remarkable. Also not surprising that your misunderstood. Until we see God's perspective we misunderstand: What I gained from my experience is confirmed in what you said, "It starts personally, brother. It starts within us." If God doesn't have our whole heart, we will not witness Him work in us and through us: when we take things in our hands, "What is gained for me is lost for Christ." Thinking that God needs our help to reach others when we need His help. The Lord had set me straight 2 years ago telling me: I don't need your help. I had been in an argument with someone who did not believe that Jesus is God.
Your an intercessor, not just because it's the meaning of Abigail who interceded when king David came as a thief: but the Lord is coming as a thief." He has been ignored in the same way David was and it's up to His future bride to intercede. Don't mind me complimenting, you deserve it. Thanks for the refreshing.
