Is there any reason that a christian person would not follow the commandments? The commandments are gods law for those who wish to live their life according to god. You cannot live as a christian and at the same time disregard gods laws.
I am curious as to why this subject came up? honestly, have you heard different or is someone whispering to you that it is ok to disregard the commandments?
If there is any doubt then looking closer at the commandments is necessary. The most important thing here is this....remeber who is talking!

Should Christians keep the 10 Commandments? I would say no but then come back and say yes. When dealing with the Ten Commandments, it is very important that we first understand the following:
The Ten Commandments, the law of God, is a very good weapon for evangelism purposes. Jesus, as well as the apostles, used it to evangelize. The bible tells us that Paul sought to convince people both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets. Acts 28:23 reads “And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.”
The Ten Commandments doesn’t help us man. Instead, it leaves us helpless, because it tells us of our sins, it makes us see our current state and our need to repent and run to God's feet for mercy. The book of Romans chapter 7 verse 7 says “… I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.” By telling and showing us what sin is, our sins are exposed to us so we can seek to be made right and justified by Christ. The law declares all men guilty before God for violating His law. It stops every man from justifying himself saying “I am good enough for salvation,” because no matter how much good one may do, he is still guilty of violating at least half of the Ten Commandments which makes him guilty of all of them. Besides, how can one calculate how much good is good enough for salvation? That’s an impossible task.
What the Law Does.
Do we really need the Ten Commandments or the law? We really don’t as long as we understand its relationship to grace. We must not misunderstand that as a license to sin and go against the Ten Commandments. Although we don’t need the law, we are commanded to love God and our neighbor. Going against any of the Ten Commandments would be either not loving God, our neighbor, or both. And if we are really IN Christ, we cannot be going against them. We do not need to worry about every single aspect of The Law because it is now written in our hearts (Hebrew 8:10 - For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.) If our actions as Christians is breaking of God’s Law, we can be assured that His laws are not written in our hearts; we need to be converted.
Jesus’ response to the Pharisee in the book of Matthew 22:36-40 reveal that the whole law is narrowed down into loving God and others. The key to the Ten Commandments is this: iff you love God, you will not have other gods than Him (1). If you love God, you will not worship idols/images/etc? (2) If you love God, you will not blaspheme or take His name in vain (3). If you love God, you will keep the Sabbath day Holy [This requires some more information, but that's a new topic.] (4). If you love your God/neighbor, you will honor your parents (5). If you love your neighbor, you will not murder him/her (6). If you love your God/neighbor, you will not commit adultery with his/her wife/husband (7). If you love your neighbor, you will not steal his/her belonging (9). If you love your neighbor, you will not say false things about him/her (9). And if you love your neighbor, you will not covet (10).
So in truth, the whole law is found in those two commandments.
Furthermore, Galatians 5:14 teaches us that “all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” So all of the law is accomplished into love.

- It declares man guilty before God. Romans 3:19 - Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become GUILTY before God.
- It converts the soul. Psalms 19:7 - The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
- It was our school master to bring us to Christ. Galatians 3:24 the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.?

I agree that Christians should definitely keep the 10 commandments, but I've wondered before about the commandment about keeping the Sabbath. In the past, it meant you needed to set aside the whole day for church, prayer, and worship, and you couldn't do any work at all on that day. I feel like now, we just go to church and then after that, we treat it like any other day. What do you guys think about keeping that commandment?

The thing is not to side tract the subject but the Sabbath is Saturday not Sunday, and to fulfill the Commandment we need to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Does that mean to sit around and do nothing all day I do not believe so.
But that was the answer to my question, people claim we need not to keep the Sabbath any longer because we are not under the law. However the other 9 commandment they would agree that we should definitely keep. If we should keep the other 9 we should definite keep the Sabbath as well.

Christians are not required to keep the Sabbath, or the 10 commandments per se.
The 10 commandments are part of the old covenant, they were written on tablets and are part of Moses's Law no matter which way we look at it. We can't isolate the 10 commandments from the rest of Mose's law they are taken as a whole, so if we want to keep the Sabbath for example, we also need to obey all the other laws associated with it. Because if a person breaks even one of them they are guilty of breaking them all (James 2). But there is no christian I'm aware of who claims to keep the Sabbath and actually keeps it according to God's Law. Not even 7th Day Adventists. They break it everytime they travel to church on a Saturday further than half a mile or so. "No travelling on the Sabbath" is one of the laws (Exod 16:29), and there are others such as no trading, no fire kindling etc. I believe these laws were given to the Israelites not to the Gentiles and not to the Christians.
Instead Christians should be following the Law which God has written on their hearts, not the ones written on the tablets.
Christians live under the Law of Christ (Galatians) and the new covenant (Heb 8, Rom 10) with the Law written on our hearts. And so christians are no longer "under the Law" :
Gal 3:24 So that the Law has become a trainer of us until Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Gal 3:25 But faith coming, we are no longer under a trainer.
re: "Catholic Sabbath", there is really no such thing. It was the "Day of the Lord", and was the day the early church chose to meet for worship. Catholics changing the day of worship is a myth started by the false prophet E. White of the 7th day adventists I believe. The early church didn't keep the Sabbath. See Acts 20:7 and 1 Cor 16:1-2.
