I don't look forward to death, but I like the idea of dying (when it's time for it). I love to take peaceful walks through cemeteries and look at the dates of birth and death on the tombstones; it's like travelling back in time. Strolling through cemeteries is relaxing and makes us more realistic about the brevity of life on Earth.

Yes, we should look forward to being with the Lord, despite physical death getting us there. However, this physical life is a test- in which we must display cherishing life. Yet also that nothing, including our lives, are more important than God.

I haven't really heard many people approach it in this manner, but I have thought about this often. Being Christians I do not feel we should fear death, but rather look forward to it. Not to the extent of taking our own lives, because I know God has a purpose for each persons life, but just a feeling kinda like a line in the song Elijah by Rich Mullins "it won't break my heart to say goodbye." just for the purpose of being rid of this worlds anxieties and getting to spend the rest of forever with God.

When I was a teenager I was a very depressed person and was suicidal, but I actually didn't care where I went, as long as it was away from this place we call earth. It was a feeling of despair that lead me to feel that way at the time. But now my looking forward to death is a hope. Not from a sad place, just thinking of the peace and love I know awaits me there.

So whether you agree with me or not, I just thought this would be an interesting topic to see how different people view the topic. How does everyone else feel we should view death?

Philippians 1:21-24
King James Version(KJV)

21.)For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22.)But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.

23.)For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

24.)Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

Death is the enemy. What we should look forward to is it being destroyed.

"The last enemy to be destroyed is death."

I look forward to death one day in the future, but now it is needful for me to live to provide for my wife and children.:)

I look forward to after death, but not getting to it.

The thought of dying of cancer, or any long illness to me is awful. Having to depend on family & being a burden on them I think is the worst part.

I seem to have some symptoms of dementia & the thought of living not knowing my own kids & arguing with my wife over such things can be horrendous.

I pray God will show me mercy for their sake & not let me linger on, but let me die quickly & peacefully.

What God wants is the sacrifice through death which enables us to do what Jesus did, that is, sacrifice our lives. Not— “Lord, I am ready to go with You . . . to death” (Luke 22:33). But— “I am willing to be identified with Your death so that I may sacrifice my life to God.”

I'm not sure we should necessarily look forward to it... at least in my mind that means we sort of "long" for it...

But, we should definitely not fear it.

I think we are to use every moment that God gives us in this world, to become more like Jesus, and to bring the message to others.. but we should be happy when the time comes to make the transition into our eternal life.

Hi Blackbird,

In this world we live in today, I admit, I do fear the way of death, that it could be
possibly groups like Isis that infiltrate America and eventually rule the world. It's the type of fear that doesn't want to be tortured or beheaded.

BUT - and this is a big BUT, my faith overcomes those thoughts when I have them. Because I look forward to seeing my Savior face to face. I'm looking forward to as Abraham did, my heavenly home whose architect and builder is God.

I'm looking forward to seeing God my Father and Jesus His Son who gave His life for me. And to see the Spirit even though these 3 live in me, I do not see them yet with my eyes. I want to hug them and weep before them, tears of joy for adopting me as a child of the king.

We all have an inheritance awaiting us. I believe that creation is so beautiful......all of it, and yet, what awaits us will surpass anything we've seen or can even imagine.

What we have here through the new life in Christ is but a foretaste of what awaits us. I yearn for it, I live for it and desire to be united to our God and King because we have a sampling here that causes our spirits to be completely His and to be made completely perfected in love at His coming.

Death is a means to that end. This mortal body will put on immortality through death. But while we're here on this side of heaven, enjoy your life. Live it to its fullest with the purpose of spreading the gospel, sharing the love of Jesus with those who don't know Him.

See yourself as a soldier for Christ, doing His work here on this earth in love and peace and joy. Sharing the good news with one another enjoying the fellowship of living with brothers and sisters in the Lord. Learning what it means to forgive and serve one another and even loving our enemies, desiring that they come to know the Lord too.

So there's nothing wrong with desiring to be united with Christ, it's how those who know Him will be. And death is the way we get there, but death isn't the focus because Christ has conquered death and the grave. We've been released from the power and death and the grave. The wages of sin is death and we are not those who die, we continue to live on in Christ because death has no power over us anymore.

So sometimes when people speak of death, it's the fear of death, or the fear of the way they will die. And the Lord doesn't want us to fear that either, but to trust Him in how we will die. He will be with us all the way through the passing of life to life. It's this mortal body that dies, but not us. So He's with us holding our hand as we breath our last using this old body and He'll be with us as we enter into the spirit life without this old body. IT WILL BE GLORIOUS! :) I hear the angels singing already!!!

Hebrews 2
…13And again: “I will put My trust in Him.” And once again: “Here am I, and the children God has given Me.” 14Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil, 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.…

Nice theory, but to some, life seems pointless.
It could be anything from a rich, "well off" depressed person in a rich neighbourhood in Europe / the USA / wherever to a captive of an anti- Christian government facing torture for his/ her faith.

And some who just want to live, who want a life, hope, a faith... Want is worse dying for a cause or just dying because they exists.

I hate the idea of death and dying.
it's becoming a terrible obsession lately.
I need prayer to help overcome it,
please pray for me.

what I'm saying is don't look forward to death when there's people in this world who are looking for life. The most stupid thing I ever heard (look forward to death), nothing you can say to me will change my mind. babies in the womb know of death before they even get to breath life.

Anybody wants to look forward to death than do it, it's your free will, but there's no looking back afterwards, make up your mind in the present.
