I saw charisenexcelcis mention "spiritual jealous" in one of the threads (sorry, mate, not picking on you ;) ). Now, I don't want people who have a greater spiritual maturity to get hurt or anything but there are stages I hope to get to one day. I believe this is biblical zealousness? (I think?)

What are some things that you spiritually yearn for that you see in others? And please don't turn this into a flame. Thanks.

Are you trying to say that there are spiritual levels you have to go through? Like when you say stages what do you mean?

I mean there have always been Christians that I admire and wish I could be like for their commitment to God and their humility and spiritual walk. But we are to strive to be more like God. Is that what you mean? Because I am confused.

What is a flame?

For me I would say I really want to see myself pursueing my relationships like they do. Theres some couples in my youth group that have strong balanced relationships, that include eachother, themselves, and God. I want my next relationship to be like that...and I'm trying to figure out how to do that more than jealousy I would say. I think its more of a striving to be better than wanting what someone else has.

To get to these places or things you would like spiritually It takes lots of pain patients, it's never easy. I don't think its a good Idea to want what other people have. It gives the Devil an opportunity to give you a false offer or bribe. I would like to be allot of things and be more fruitful but I can only grow fruit on my own branches, I can only look at my own branches.

With that said, I need to get sin out of my life, I need to evangelize. Pray for me, my tree needs pruning.

As for who we should emulate, I think Jesus is the only one we should idolize. We each have a personal relationship with the Lord and we each have a unique set of gifts we are given. I look at David going out to fight Goliath. King Saul put his armor on David to go out and face the giant, but it was cumbersome and didn't fit David. Had he gone into the fight with someone else's armor, he probably would have been defeated, but he trusted God with the gift's that he was given, and that made all the difference. I think we should celebrate our uniqueness and pray that we become more like Christ, the perfect example.

It could be. I guess you could look at some people's faith but haven't quite gotten to what they're at but are working towards it for yourself. Like, I've heard of people who rely on God for literally everything (which is not easy - it takes a lot of faith to let go of our lives).

Oh, a flame is a thread where people start yelling at each other, etc.

I believe that the higher way is to ask Jesus to live through us. More of Him, and less of me, each and every day. This comes by humility, a seeing of ourselves as less worthy than anyone else, and a seeing the worthiness of Jesus. It is not a loosing of my identity, but a loosing of my sinful nature in Him. Not a taking over, but a willingly laying down of my life that His life might reign. Anytime something is done or said wrong, it is always me. Anytime things are said right, things which bring peace and love and righteousness and life, it is Him.

Maybe I missed it, but what exactly is "spiritual jealousy?" Are you talking about when the Bible says God is a jealous God?

My reference to spiritual jealousy had to do with a statement that the RCC ought not to call people saints when the poster did not know these people. By spiritual jealousy I meant that it wasn't so much the particular acts of the RCC that made this man angry, but rather a desire for the kind of power that he perceived the RCC to have. I think that spiritual jealousy is often present in the hostile postings as well as spiritual pride. I would like to see humility and integrity.
Good posts.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of spiritual zealousness - the closeness to God that we may see in others.
