Question: "What does the Bible say about abortion?"

Answer:
The Bible never specifically addresses the issue of abortion. However, there are numerous teachings in Scripture that make it abundantly clear what God

I love Gotquestions.org!

Anyway, the Bible condemns the murder of any human, the innocent especially. Since life starts at conception, abortion is no exception. Abortion is reprehensible murder.

Doesn't Jesus say that for anyone who harms a child, it would be better for them to have a millstone tied around their neck and be thrown into the sea?

ah yes wonderful feedback! I'm totally against abortion no matter the reason. People ask what about rape, well I can speak from experience, had I gotten pregnant from it, NO WAY I'd abort. God has plans for everyone, He doesn't make mistakes, or accidents, I had to learn this the hard way in life with my own struggles, but praise God, He taught me!

My question is: what is the difference between abortion or God telling the Israelites to rip open the pregnant women's stomachs of the pagan nations? In either instance the unborn babies were killed.

Hosea 13: 14-16. There are also more verses that talk about killing little ones and sucklings here they are: 1 Samuel 15:3, Joshua 10:40, Deuteronomy 2:33-34, Numbers 31:17, Jeremiah 51:22, Psalm 137:9. Don't forget that they were also suppose to stone their children to death for cursing them. Ex. 21:17; Lev. 20:9; Mat. 15:4; Mark 7:10. So once again-how is it any different from those commands to kill fetuses, little ones, and sucklings to what we call abortion now?

most of these were dealing with different situations such as war, punishment for following other gods breaking covenants,
so these are like compareing apples to oranges........Abortion is like Israel passing their children through the fire in the worship of molech and not the carrying out of justice or puting sin out of the camp or doing away with an enemy in the promised land

Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
2Ki 17:17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
Jer 32:35 And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
notice the "NEITHER CAME IT INTO MY MIND" part of that verse this i feel is proof of why abortion is wrong

It still bears to mind that they were "instructed" to commit these acts against other humans regardless if they were in war, punishment etc. It doesn't excuse the fact that they killed innocent babies and said that God told them to. Yes I totally believe that it never entered God's mind to do this unto others, however where does that leave the bible's take on it?

War...When israel was to enter the promised land God instructed them to kill EVERY living thing live stock women children and men as to keep Israel safe as well remove the temptation of false god worship.Look at what God told them when they didnt cary out these orders to the letter .............Jdg 2:1 And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
Jdg 2:2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
Jdg 2:3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

Punishment...There is a call for death in punishment in the olden times as an example for what severity sin causes in your life.As you well know all things in the Old Testiment were examples of what was to come to pass in the future.as touching the promise of the coming mesiah and the coming age of grace
It seems to me that through the sacrifices and wars Israel had become hardened to death and been desencitized so they needed a sevier example to show how preasious life really is(study into the traditions of the sacrifices to see how this was truely acted out)We as a nation I feel have once again become desencitized to how truely bad sin really is and would do good to reflect on the examples God layed out in the Old times
The penalty for rape, murder(lying in wait to kill Not homicide or accidental killing or crimes of passion)Adultry and the like were punnishable by death as well as dishonoring ones father or mother.because they were so heinous acts and caused temptation for others to follow
Look again at the old laws pretaining to the prommised land. These things had been lost to Israel in 400 years of captivity in egypt. So God had to show them all over again.there is evidence of a pre mosaic law in the early books of Genises so these laws werent inacted on israel just then(ie the sacrifice example of Cain and Able,Note cain wasnt put to death for it wasnt murder but a crime of passion, the covenant example with God and abram, and the sacrifice example of jacob and Isaac)if it werent in effect befor Moses then why do it?so this lends a second look towards Israel in deuteronomy and Leviticus....these werent new laws but a reintroduction of the same laws (Look however, at this verse concerning the sacrifice laws Jer 7:22--24)Crime and punnishment are serious, and are to be taken as such,Not played around with nor expierimented with for alternative ends for they only cause confusion and desencitization,Look at our crime rate now?Do you think it would be as out of hand if those same punnishments were infact carried out?
So comparing these to abortion isnt even close Abortion is Murder.Lying in wait to kill the subtile act of genocide toward poor and what the elite class calls uneducated and prays on the lustful and gullible.

My point is noahsdad all the things you have described and are trying to justify are the exact same things that they are being "punished" for. So how does calling one "sin" and the other "punishment" make it justified? Killing is killing, rape is rape, cutting open a pregnant woman's belly is still killing an innocent fetus regardless of whether or not they are pagan or jew. The only difference is one side proclaimed that God told them to do it and the other side didn't.

There is a law in the OT that if a pregnant woman is injured as a result of violence and delivers prematurely, and the child is injured or dead then the one who caused it should suffer equally.

God is the giver of life and defines when taking a human life is justifiable. Murder is the unjust taking of an otherwise innocent life. Abortion is clearly murder. Murderers will not see the kingdom

Murder is also ripping open a pregnant woman's belly and then smashing the baby's head against a rock. Like I said regardless of whether someone "claims" God told them to or they go to a doctor-it's still killing innocent life-how is it different?

This flows from everything that has been seen so far. God’s own finger writes in stone the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17) and Christ reaffirms it (Matthew 19:18 - notice that He mentions this commandment first). The Book of Revelation affirms that (unrepentant) murderers cannot enter the kingdom of heaven (Revelation 22:15).
The killing of children is especially condemned by God through the prophets. In the land God gave his people to occupy, foreign nations had the custom of sacrificing some of their children in fire. God told His people that they were not to share in this sin. They did, however, as Psalm 106 relates: "They mingled with the nations and learned their works…They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, and they shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, desecrating the land with bloodshed" (Psalm 106:35, 37-38).
This sin of child-sacrifice, in fact, is mentioned as one of the major reasons that the Kingdom of Israel was destroyed by the Assyrians and the people taken into exile. "They mutilated their sons and daughters by fire…till the Lord, in his great anger against Israel, put them away out of his sight" (2 Kings 17:17-18).
Notice that this practice was a religious ritual. Not even for "religious freedom" can the killing of children be tolerated

Hosea 13:16 It talks about the "judgment" of God against a nation where the bellies of the women shall be ripped up and the infants shall be dashed into pieces. No one seems to be able to "justify" abortion being wrong in God's eyes however He then condoning and "causing" this to happen Himself. If killing babies is wrong regardless of the situation then it should be wrong across the board. I know that God never ordered or condoned the killings of innocent children, however the bible speaks clearly that He does-so which source do you believe-God or the bible?
