Hey everyone, Merry Christmas! May God bless you and may He give you strength and grace so you overcome all challenges and obstacles.

I have a question. What does Christmas mean to you? Is it a holiday, to spend time with family? Are you happy? Are you relaxed?
When you sleep tonight, and your head hits the pillow, will you be at peace? Do you have joy in your heart, the kind that is not shaken, even when the world around you is?

You might think, ''Oh rhetorical questions'', you might be rolling your eyes at the over-the-top language, but I ask all this with reason.

I find that the two most precious ''commodities'' (if you will) in this world, is not diamonds or gold or hi-tech gadgets. It's peace and joy.
The whole world seems to be in pursuit of this. This elusive happiness. There are so many solutions and suggestions to gain that joy and peace.

Some people find it in material things, or so they claim. Money, gifts, admiration from people and love. These things drive them, but over a period of time we all realize that this fails at some point of time. Take away all this, will you be at peace? Tomorrow a disaster occurs and you lose everything, will you still be standing?

Some people say joy and peace, are not to be found on the outside but the inside. ''Self discovery'' and philosophy, meditation and exercise, all aid towards it.
But who are we kidding? The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 17:9, The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

If the inside is dying, if the inside is in turmoil and confusion, how can there be peace?
Even if the whole world commends you, if everyone turns a blind eye at your faults, how can you escape that guilt that your conscience throws at you?
When your heart is broken, when it is torn apart by people who you once trusted, when it has felt so much pain, how can it miraculously give you healing?

This is my experience, there is just one who has loved you so much, He bore the price of that sin on that cross, so that YOU can have the peace that passes all understanding.
Only one person , who can give you peace.

When He was born, this is what the angels said.

Luke 2:14
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

And this was what was said about Him

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

And who was this ? He was a man of sorrows, of grief

Isaiah 53:3-5

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

And there is peace and there is joy only in HIM.

I know this is a Bible forum, and there are so many seasoned Christians, this message must be done over so many times, especially during Christmas, but the excitement I gained from learning this was too much.

I HAD to share it with my brothers and sisters.

So many times, even as believers, we can be robbed of our joy and peace. Life gets to us, and the troubles and the hardships can hurt us that we can look away from the Lord.

But he has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

I hope you guys share more about joy and peace in the Lord. The thread title says, Man of Sorrows, but really we rejoice!!!
Because this is what the Lord says,

John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

He has overcome it all!

And so,

1 Peter 1:18
Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

Joy to the World, because our Saviour has overcome!
This world, will one day fade away..
Your life on here will end.

When the new heaven and new earth comes, will you be IN it or OUT of it? Are you at peace, do you have joy, do you have love?

Merry Christmas.

I do not regard Christmas as having any religious significance to me, although I do enjoy the holiday seasons.

The fact that I do not hold any religious significance for Christmas does not mean I do not accept Christ nor do I judge others if they choose to honor Christ at Christmas.

Oh Alright,

Celebration of Christmas is one thing, Celebrating Christ in your heart is another.

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Also isn't it interesting how Jesus said this,

Matthew 10:34-36
Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35"For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.

The birth of our Lord is very easily worked into the gospel through the incarnation of Christ as the God-man. Without the birth and incarnation of Christ we would have no Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world and provide reconciliation for sinful man. He was the one who fulfilled more than 350 prophesies as the one to come and was the promise of the Father. We look back as believers and point others to his conception, his birth, his incarnation, his ministry, his death, burial and resurrection. He is our Peace (Eph 2:14) and the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) and the joy of the whole earth (Ps 48:2). This is what the follower of Christ makes of this time of year we call Christmas, which is an opportunity to sing his praises and to go forth filled with joy and peace as we speak of him (Rom 15:13), the one born of a virgin who is called Emmanuel, God with us (Matt 1:21-23). There is no other name under heaven whereby man can be saved (Acts 4:12) and there is no other birth under heaven that brought that name into the gospel which we preach.

Phil 2:6-11
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

From the cradle of Bethlehem we look forward to the cross of Calvary. From the cross we look forward to the risen Lord. From here we look forward to eternity in glory with the Babe Who became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

For the cause of Christ

If the inside is dying, if the inside is in turmoil and confusion, how can there be peace?
some of my Christmas words for this year...

2 Cor. 4:7-9, 16-18

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed

Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

I find much peace and joy there. :)

Merry Christmas to you, Rachel. ♥

Thanks Roger, Looking forward to spending eternity with Christ, is wonderful.

And Psychomom, I read those passages, twice.

Thank you so much, for sharing them. It was so encouraging! I had tears at the end of reading that

we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed

That was a blessing, Merry Christmas to you dear sister. You are beautiful! <3

For me christmas means sharing the joy with people especially poor and old people and making them happy . It is a joyous occasion with the feeling that baby Jesus is born to redeem us from our sins. it is also a time to learn to be simple and humble in life as Jesus itself was born in a manger. Also I feel happy to see children smiling when they see Santa Claus... And I wish you a Merry Christmas :)

Jesus is the the mighty heavenly King with whom nations will have an accounting. When human rulers confront the exalted Jesus in the near future, they will have to deal with a Messiah who has ‘all authority in heaven and on the earth’!—Matthew 28:18.

When the exalted Jesus comes to execute judgment on this ungodly system of things, earthly rulers will ‘stare at him in amazement.’ True, human rulers will not literally see the glorified Jesus. But they will see the visible evidences of his power as a heavenly Fighter and his angels will be with him. (Matthew 24:30) They will be forced to turn their consideration to what they have not heard recounted.(Isaiah 52:15)

In constant sorrow all through his days

I am a man of constant sorrow
I've seen trouble all my day
I bid farewell to old Kentucky
The place where I was born and raised

The place where he was born and raised

For six long years I've been in trouble
No pleasures here on earth I found
For in this world I'm bound to ramble
I have no friends to help me now

He has no friends to help him now

It's fare thee well my old true lover
I never expect to see you again
For I'm bound to ride that northern railroad
Perhaps I'll die upon this train

Perhaps he'll die upon this train

You can bury me in some deep valley
For many years where I may lay
Then you may learn to love another
While I am sleeping in my grave

While he is sleeping in his grave

Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger
My face you never will see no more
But there is one promise that is given
I'll meet you on God's golden shore

He'll meet you on God's golden shore
