"The Power of Christ's Gospel"
Beloved,
The Apostle Paul was inspired to write that the gospel "is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16).
Do pepole actally recieve power when they hear and belieave the gospel? What did Paul mean when he wrote that it "is the power to salvation?" Peter's experience on the day of Pentecost explains how the gospel imparts power.
On the day of Pentecost, ten days after Christ's ascension into heaven, Peter powerfully preached the true gospel. His message cut to the heart of thousands of Jewish listerners. They asked Peter and the other disciples, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"
Notice Peters answer; "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will Call" ( Acts 2: 38-39)
Did you notice that God must first call a new Christain for salvation? ( John 6:444; Corinthians 1: 26-28). In God's time and plan, everyone will be called. God desires that all of mankind be saved and "come to knowledge of the truth" ( 1 Timothy 2:4). God the Father, through His Spirit, uses the gospel to open a Christans mind to the truth!
Christ gospel has the power to change a person's whole life. Those who truly believe the gospel will responed by repenting of their sins. Repentance means to turn around and go the other way. It involves confessing our sins to God and forsaken them.
Therefore, believing the gospel is more than an academic exercise of acknowledging Jesus Christ. It means surrendering to Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and your Lord and Master! Upon baptism and the laying on of hands, the power of God's Holy Spirit will enter the very mind of the believer. It is the seal and guarantee of our inheritance of eternal life ( Ephesians 1:13 ).
The presence of the Holy Spirit is what identifies real Christains. This same Spirit will be the means by which
God will raise the bodies of dead Christians to life again and make them immortal ( Romans 8:9-11).
Finaly, the meaning of Paul's statment becomes clear, The gospel of Christ has the power to change your life forever. Indeed. It reveals how we may recieve God's Holy Spirit, His divine power, which is necessary for salvation.
The Gospel----the Good News of Salvation, the New Covenant, the coming Kingdom of God on earth and the return of Jesus Christ as King of Kings--will continue to be preached in all the world (Matthew 24:14)
May God help you to see the results of this good news in your life!!!
