The Ten Commandments shows us our sin Romans 7:7 Romans 3:20, the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, so feeling guilt over sinning is a good thing, because it shows we have not harden our hearts. Being comfortable living in sin is a dangerous place to be Heb 10:26-30. Sin hurts Jesus because it shows our allegiance is to another 1 John 3:8 Jesus wants us to overcome sin and we can do so through Him, it just requires a willing heart. John 14:15-18
thats all fine and dandy.

But thats not what the ten commands was given for. It was given to PROVE we are under sin

if you just looking to the ten commands to tell you what sin is, You will fall short.. you will sin and not even know it

Jude, Paul, and 2Peter2 all agree.

2Peter2: 21It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to have known it and then to turn away from the holy commandment passed on to them.

It's clear in this 2Peter2 verse that the "holy commandment" passed on to them is singular. And the very next verse compares these to dogs that return to their vomit and sows that go back to their wallowing.

I'm usually reticent in even considering the possibility that there are such as these among us but... Jude noticed and said so
Jude 1:4
For certain men have crept in among you unnoticed—ungodly ones who were designated long ago for condemnation. They turn the grace of our God into a license for immorality, and they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jude observes these will "slander what they don't understand," these who are "worldly and devoid of the Spirit."

But John 17 says of our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ, "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence."
why does a dog return to his vomit? just trying to get your understanding..

I believe this thread demonstrates once again, a serious lack of First Testament knowledge.

What is called "The Law" by many was not given to non-believers. The Law was given to the redeemed; those God brought out of bondage and who had previously pledged their loyalty and obedience to Him. It as never ment to be a means of salvation; but is instead a guide to believers for living a redeemed life. It is AFTER redemption not before. It was never a means of salvation, then or now.

There is no conflict here.
Um no

it was not given to the redeemed

it was given to a select nation. to help them know when their redeemer came.

Perhaps we agree. Perhaps not.

The timeline as I see it (very truncated)

1. The Son and Father enter into a covenant before the earth was formed. (the Law here is the Law of Christ as the Son of His Love)

2. Abraham inherits the promises of this covenant because of his belief and faith in God. (The law here is the Law of the Son of His Love)

3. 430 years later, the fleeing descendants Abraham are brought to Sinai. Here, God intends them to come into His presence. Here, God intends to give the people the promises given to Abraham and make them all royal priests. (The law here is the Law of the Son of His Love)

4. The people, out of fear, choose Moses to go into God’s presence in their stead. This is one of the transgressions that prompts God to give the Law (which includes the 10 Commandments). (The law is changed: It is now the Law of Sinai, given to the people who are alive at the mountain, it is given because of transgressions. It is now a law of sin and death)

5. The Law of sin and death given at Sinai DOES NOT affect the promises given to Abraham. The Sinai Law was primarily given to preserve the people through whom the Son would come to restore the way back to the Father for all men who would receive the Son.

6. The Son appears! (Christ!). Now, like Abraham, all who believe in the Son may inherit the promises given to Abraham. The Law of Sin and Death served its purpose: the Son appeared and the way to the Father was secured.

7. Today, only the Son and Father covenant is the way to the Father: you accept the Son you become a co-heir with the Son. This way is made available to all, Gentiles and non-Gentiles alike.

Your having a hard time understanding the purpose of the ark of the covenant and the atonement

Can you explain it to me? what does it all symbolise
The ark of the covenant is where the Ten Commandments are held. Exo 40:20 it sits under the Mercy Seat of Jesus revelaed in heaven Rev 11:19 because it is what we will all be judged by James 2:10-12, Mat 5:19-30 Ecc 12:13-14 Rev 22:14-15 Where mercy and justice come together.

Atonement is the cleansing of sins. In the OC this was done though the blood of animals pointing forward to Jesus Heb 10:1-22, in the NC it is through the blood of Jesus. 1 John 1:9. Jesus did not die so we can be free to sin, otherwise He would not had to of died. Jesus died to take the penalty of sin, but we too must die of sin and be reborn in His newness which is without sin. If we stumble along the way Jesus is now our High Priest and we can go directly to Him for the forgiveness of sin for breaking His law-when Jesus healed- He said go and sin no more. The Ten Commandments just show us our sin so we can "see it" and not cover our sins- which is a dangerous placed to be. Pro 28:13 Heb 10:26-30

Romans 6
1: What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be [a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been [b]freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, [c]reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as [d]instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were [e]delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness [f]for holiness.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit [g]to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I prefer scripture, but we can agree to disagree

1 John 3:4 4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

Romans 3:20 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”

God is not going to judge us, without giving the criteria on what He is judging us by.

James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty

You can find the rest of what He said in Exo 20. God's law written and spoken personally by God our Creator and Savior.

As do I. Love is the basis for His commandments. He said so right in the Ten

Exo 20:6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

Here is another example of how you do not understand scripture. 1 John 5:3 isn't about us demonstrating our love towards God, but His exercise of love towards us. The evidence of God's love...giving His Son and eternal life...is manifest in our obedience that is now possible. And because we are now under Jesus yoke and by the Spirit He is living in us, it is no longer burdensome.
You make everything about you. The Bible is about God, and what He does. In what He does He fills the earth with the knowledge of His glory. Good thing you weren't there as God separated the waters of the Red Sea. When you were interviewed about the event you would have responded...yeah, but I was the one who walked through it.

I am pretty sure the scriptures says- this is the love of God that we keep His commandments. Jesus said, If you love Me- keep My commandments. John 14:15 Exo 20:6 If we take issue with it, there is a love problem.

I don't see any of your commentary in this scripture. But again, we can agree to disagree.

Read the whole passage...for this is the love of God. The love of God is God's love. It's of God. And then it goes on to tell what the love of God is.
If you know anything about grammar you know the love of God is a predicate noun restating the subject...This. in other words, the 2 can be switched without changing the meaning of the sentence. The love of God is this...so what follows is what God's love consists in.
It's not about you.

Yeah, they love 1 John 5:3 but they don’t know how to deal with 1 John 3. Same letter different chapter.

And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

Funny, these commandments were not included in the Law. This was spoken by Jesus and His commandments are greater than the Law.

Old commandment: love one another as you love yourself. The standard is the man.
Christ’s commandment: love one another as I have loved you. The standard for God and man is the same.

It’s so apparent: those who try to keep the Law have no understanding about being dead and born again by His Spirit.

How do we believe in Jesus but not believe or live out His teachings that He kept as our example to follow. 1 John 2:6

Mat 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God

Jesus equated the Word of God with the Ten Commandments as He is quoting from them directly.

Mark 7:7 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”

9 He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, 13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

Matthew 15:3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6 then he need not honor his father [a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

Mat 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother [e]without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, [g]‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. 23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. 26 Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Matthew 19:17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”

Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

The same ones James quotes that we will be judged by.

James 2:8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you [e]show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. What else did the He who said say? James is quoting the Ten Commandments that Jesus said we are to live by every Word.

27 And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

Isa 56:1 Thus says the Lord:

“Keep justice, and do righteousness,
For My salvation is about to come,
And My righteousness to be revealed.

2 Blessed is the man who does this,
And the son of man who lays hold on it;
Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

6 “Also the sons of the foreigner
Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants—
Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And holds fast My covenant

Again, I will turn to scripture for the answers. God says He has a people who do overcome. If you feel the devil has more power to keep us in sin than Jesus does to keep us from sin I would sincerely pray to God and ask Him for more faith and love to Him. I say this prayer often. We can overcome, it's a promise from scripture, but sadly, it is just a remnant.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 14: 12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city

Right!

The whole Law was to make those under the Law desperate so that they call out to the Lord.

After the Seed appeared, Christ, the commandments of God became the direction of the Spirit moment by moment. This is the same standard for man and Christ: that they follow the word of God.

Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.”

Slaves don’t understand this because their doctrine was written by a slave with no hope of sonship: Lucifer.

It's not about love to God. To believe as you do, you must ignore the rules of language and make the verse about man and not God.

True obedience on our part is a demonstration that God's love has been demonstrated towards us. It is a visible manifestation that we are loved of God, that Christ has indeed paid our sins, and that we are in relationship with Him in Christ.

We cannot obey the law apart from Christ dwelling in us. Thus, our obedience testifies to this reality.

It's obvious that these truths aren't resonating with you. So continuing further at this point is unfruitful. But I will be praying for you, and will try again in the future if God allows and is at work in your heart. Grace and peace.

It's not about love to God? It is absolutely about love to God. Of course we can't obey without Christ dwelling in us, but Jesus said If you love Me- keep My commandments and then He gives us the Spirit to help us obey John 14:15-18. Jesus doesn't force us to obey Him, it our choice and if we love Him we would want to do everything He asks of us.

I will too

Deuteronomy 27:26

Cursed is the one who does not confirm all the words of this law by observing them.’ “And all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’ ”

Perfection is required

Paul quotes Moses words in Gal 3

10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” 11 But that no one is [d]justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.”

And james makes clear.. stumble just one time. Your dead.

James 2:10
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

if yuo have sinned once,. Your done. There is no going back to keep the law. you already failed.

But even then, Even if we think we start over. we still can not achieve this perfection. so we are still guilty

Gods people keep his commands,, But they can not keep the law.. No one can. Only one did
